is it free to use this mystical vag com thing? I want my horn to beep when i lock it too.
-
Free to use, not free to buy. There is a free version (I think). Not sure if the free one lets you do this tho. You also need to purchase a cable to connect.
-
i suppose u have to have some car/mechanical knowhow. If i started messin around with it i probs end up with a car that barks like a dog whenever i put it in reverse or summat.
-
You dont need mechanic know how, you just need to know how to use the VAGCOM software. Im sure Google would bring up a software guide.
-
google is ace!
can it connect using USB?

Same here, PM sent Ash.

My mate has used this on my car, his car and loads more, it works, he clears faults on my ecu with it, reset the ecu, etc, etc. This is the exact one he bought, he linked me himself, not sure about the other ones on ebay but I know this works perfectly

Ordered.
Top man Ash :)

my cable came today, the one that was recommended. I cant get it to work tho. version 409.1 was installed via the ross-tech website as well as the drivers that came with the cable but to no avail. The test comes up with the following message:
"Port Status: OK
Interface: Not Found!"
What am in doin wrong?

Sometimes your PC will allocate different internal components to COM 1-4, plug the lead in and allocate the lead to com 1, 2, 3 or 4 in device manager. This will hopefully let vag-com see it. Vag-com can only look for 1-4 although your laptop might have 12 or so com ports.

got a feeling it will be mate

byther buggery! it doesnt frikkin work. av changed the usb port that the cable is in to port 2 but computer says no.
-
Yeah still applicable, the drivers you got with it basically fool the PC into thinking that the USB lead is serial connection. I'm willing to bet good money either the drivers aren't installed properly, or its some issue with the port allocation. Unfortunately its one of those things that just takes a bit of tinkering with....
Just out of curiosity - have any of you guys managed to get a 'cracked' version of VAG-COM to work? If so are you on XP or Vista?
-
xp
