Firstly, sorry for asking such a lame question. I've spent most of my life with carb'd engines so these new (ha!) fangled fuel injection ones are proving to be somewhat noodle scratchers.
I drive a Mk1 GTi, but it has the Mk2 16v GTi engine fitted.
Is the ECU likely to still be the Mk1 varient (not the greatest conversion job on the electrical front), or does it need to be the MK2 one?
If it is still the MK1 one, will the loom have a connector floating about for the throtle position sensor or idle stabilisation valve?
If not, does anyone know which wires to splice into once I buy the plugs second hand?
Neither of these are currently connected to anything and want to know how to sort it. The car runs fine when warm, but struggles a tad to start when cold.
I'd figure that these two things being connected will help no end!
Thank you all in advance, and sorry again for the first of many very lame questions!

needs to be the mk 2 one

So surely that means the one it is currently connected to is the right one, or the engine wouldn't run?
I'll try and get a photo of it tomorrow for claritys sake!

exactly

Brilliant stuff.
So all i need to do is sort the loom out?
Another stupid question, but did the MK1 have an idle stabilisation valve and throtle position sensor? If so, does anyone know what colour wires they used?

A question came to me.while reading the post. can the ISV be taken out of the loop and the engine run fine?

i believe it can but i think you have to plumb in the auxillary air valve where the isv was
can a mod confirm this

some mk1s had an equivilant to the isv, some did not. You can ditch the 16v isv, but you have to set the idle a touch higher and deal with the engine running a bit lumpy when cold.

Yarp has neither the isv or the throttle position sensor plugged in and runs fine.
Starting from cold though, now that's a different story! Does anyone know what colour wires on the mk1 loom would be for the isv if it had one? Also the tps?

if you want an isv id go with the mk2 16v setup, dont think the mk1 one would work well? its quite a simple system really, if you want wiring diagrams i gots em ;)
the 16v has a valve thingy on the airbox which is controlled by the idle switch as well, think its an over-run cutoff or something?
