Post by: Steve78 on 21 January 2008, 15:13

No, the colour Blue Graphite has and still is always available! Its a fairly popular colour here in Ireland, maybe not so much in UK. My car is a '07. It was Laser blue they discontinued a couple of yrs ago.

@Max Q - Great pics! I spotted your post over on vagdrivers too!

Unfortunately here in Ireland you are required by law to display both a tax and insurance disc. Insurance discs are square and there's not really any other decent looking solution that'll fit that I've seen.

@JoeGTI
Thanks, must keep and eye out for yours on the road!

I'll do likewise! I'm always looking out for fellow irish GTI's! Watch out for those lovely wheels... I had an encounter with a pothole lately, took a small chip out of one of mine. grrrrr
Have a look at the tax/insurance disc holders for sale on vagdrivers... I got one, it's much smarter than the dealer supplied yokes.

Any chance of a bit more info on the wheels that you have..

Presume they are replica's, if so where abouts did you source them from and do you have the fitment info, offsets width etc

Thanks

Hi mate, yes they reps. I got them from an ebay shop in the U.S. http://myworld.ebay.co.uk/eurowheelsusa

They are 18x8.5, 5x112, ET45. They fill the arches out niceley and are very good quality. Pics don't do them justice really.

Post by: jonnnny28 on 24 February 2008, 13:21
Ah cool thanks for that mate..

Any chance of some pics of how the wheels sit in comparison to the edge of the arch, not into the 'poke' look so would want them no more than flush with the arch..

Thanks

Jonny

That edition 30 interior looks great with the red detailing, stiching etc.WHY OH WHY didnt VW detail the R32? e.g blue stiching on steering wheel etc.
Come on VW make a 25k car at least look like a 25 k car,it must cost coppers to change the colour of the stiching to make it a bit more special.
I HAVENT EVEN GOT R32 INTERIOR SILLS.
These were on the mk4 as well as the "4 motion" gear knob.

COME ON VW spend a wee bit more to make our cars special.
Chrissy.

Hello people! Have finally got round to putting some pics up! To be fair though I have been having a few problems with being able to post.

Anywho here are some pics of my baby going through stages 1, 2, 3 and 4 as i have named them. Bare with me during this peeps as i am but a novice as well have having been fu**ed about by all the cowboys/conmen that we have up here that claim to be coachworks. What a load of nuts. So if anyone knows anywhere that is actually good at what they do let me know. Preferably in Scotland but im not bothered about having to travel. Other than that any tips/comments/help/general banter is welcome and muchly appreciated.

Hope you enjoy the pics, thanks for taking the time to look at them! I've had a look at some of the other posts and alot of them go into lots of detail and are really good pics, just to warn you now, mine arn't!!

Ok, here we are at stage 1, the only thing i had changed was the wheels to Audi replicas, obv in this photo you can see that!
But you can in this pic!

Right onto stage 2, in other words lowered and a s**tty air filter. I can't really see the differance, it's meant to be lowered 30mm but it was done by a company called sh!tty Citi coachworks who are a bunch of cowboys. Thanks for all your help guys!
Feeling the worst of the scottish weather!

Which leads us to stage 3, basically just having the windows tinted. With thanks again to sh!tty Citi coachworks and Performance Auto Trix for another overpriced botched job. It doesnt look to bad from a distance but i can see all the wee bits that havn't been done right.

Right, this brings us to stage 4, having the new exhaust fitted. Finally a job really well done. With genuine thanks to the lovelly guys at c&c exhaust, the lovelly fellas even gave me a lift to the shopping centre so i could spend the day shopping while it was getting done. AND when it was finished they came and picked me up again!

Half a tank of petrol for 80 mile round trip (with a little de-tour added on when i got lost) - £25
Spending the day in a shopping centre whilst waiting - £200
Actual final price of the cat-back system - £528.75
The feeling i get when i start it up and hear her roar - F**king Priceless.

Right so thats it for now. Next up,
it should be going in this week to get all those nasty black plastics re-sprayed and getting the bumper filled.
Poss re-map
Poss new cat
coilovers
Better air filter
Poss new bumpers/side skirts but i havn't seen any that i like so far.
Anti roll bars

Well keep in touch you beautiful people. I like the banter!

rosie, are you gonna change the lower valance at the back??? it looks abit pants with a gapping hole!. also your tints on the front? you do know thats illegal.
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Rosie on 15 March 2008, 19:01
Yeah, its going in this week to be filled and all the black plastics colour coded, i agree, it looks pants!

Hmmm in terms of the tints, i did do some research on this with the bobbies etc and it was given the all clear as long as it was 30% tints not limo. Do we, by any chance, have a different law up here?
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Phil mcavity on 15 March 2008, 19:07
I had tints on my old 05 Gti as in my signiture below, and i was told under no curcumstances could you used tinted glass on the front before the B pillar. The only tint i could get away without breaking the law was a clear UV tint, which reflects the suns rays, gives the glass a slight mirror'd look . and keeps the rozzers away!!. Unless in bonny scotland the laws different, you wouldnt get away with it down here if you were pulled over.

Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Rosie on 15 March 2008, 19:14
Hmmmmmmmmmm. I know there are certain laws that are different here but you would think that anything really to do with cars would be accross the country....

However i must keep this in mind for the times i take a wee jaunt down the way! I havn't been pulled yet and have driven past plenty of cop cars, maybe they are just waiting till i do something really wrong and then hit me with a double whammy!
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?

i do like your wheels, i am a  Big fan of the Monza II's , and lots of other peeps have changed to some other after market BBS ones which dont look as good imo. They must of cost a bomb!. Did you change from monza 18's or did you have the 17's before?
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Rosie on 15 March 2008, 19:23
Yeah they were 18's, however i was lead to belive that they were 17's and it was only when i measured them when trying to sell them that i realised!I like the monza's, dont get me wrong, but they are quite common, and i wanted bigger! Bigger is better and all that.

I paid £1050 for the alloys and dunlops. Apparently thats not too bad a price, what do you think?
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Phil mcavity on 15 March 2008, 19:27
yes that price is about right if they are Genuine and not replica's,athough Dunlop sportmax wouldnt be my 1st choice of tyre. i do agree about size but its what you do with it that matters most  .
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Rosie on 15 March 2008, 19:35
 :embarassed: they are replicas....... :embarassed:

What kinda tyres would you go for? I'm not really up on my tyre knowlage.......

Indeed, what you do with size is always impotant, but having the size to begin with is a bit of a shove in the right direction

Yep just bought the car from Mark_Eire and he had previously removed those horrid surrounds....they are in the boot now and on their way to the nearest tip...unless of course anyone wants them...

Drives like a dream, only issue i have is that it needs a service and the cruise control doesn't work, however I am sure it will be fixed under warranty.

Appreciate that the purests on this site will probably insist on the Monzas.....however, I rather like the r32 type wheels...its even better in the flesh...each to their own i guess.

Thanx.
I'm not sure if the GTI is higher than the Ed 30 version.
I am considering doing a few mods soon, that will include lowering it alittle, the breaks and a re-map.
For now I'm just enjoying blasting it up and down the hills around where I live ...

Its what happens when you decide to see what all this detailingworld.co.uk talk is all about

Honestly I've tried so many combinations I'm not sure what my favourite is.  The pics above are with dodo lime prime, and dodo blue velvet wax.  Although if i'm honest, pinnacle sovereign wax applies more nicely and gives a slightly better finish so will be my combo for the summer (with maybe megs no7 showcar glaze in between).  I've spent hundreds of pounds on trying all this stuff and I'm now sure, if you are willing to apply wax/sealent once a month, Meguires NXT tech wax gives a finish right up there with all the best stuff i've tried.

I machine polished it 18 months ago with menzerna polishes (hence no swirls) and since then have just been looking after it.

Thanks for the comments

Yep its really hard work mate.  The other half has a silver cooper which is so easy to keep clean and make shiny.  Not a swirl in sight.  Black shows everything but as you see in the pics, can be very rewarding (for a few mins lol)  It has a few swirls here and there and could do with a clay- problem is, i'm sure the clay will marr it and i will have to polish it again.  I enjoy waxes, glazes etc but machine polishing was exhausting and i dont fancy it again any time soon :embarassed:

Think the Ed30 has another 15mm drop on the GTi.

Steel Grey its the future, but they should have called it gun metal like old mk4, sounds a bit more GRR!

Ride heights are the same on both ed30 and GTi. same suspention is fitted to both cars. 1469mm as quoted from VW
http://www.volkswagen.co.uk/#/new/golf-gti/which-model/specifications/compare/size/

Sorry if thats burst anyones belief the ed30 are lower then standard GTi's, unless of course youve lowered it yourself

Why didnt you get an Ed30 Phil?
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Phil mcavity on 22 March 2008, 09:01
Because the ed30 with the extra's that i wanted was just too excessive. All the ed 30's i could of got were either manual, 3 door, or were box standard which id prefer a high spec GTi, The Full leather to me looks nicer then the tartan. I prefer the look of the monza II's over the pescara's. slightly higher running and insurance costs. If i want the xtra bit of power then jkm portsmouth is where id head for it i want abit extra ommph. i did find some ed30 up north but as i found out it had some major hidden secrets, 4 owners, many warranty claims in one year!!, as i found out when i checked vw's database... heres the car...........http://finance.autoexposure.co.uk/classicdd.cfm?Account=AETA44465&VehicleID=AETV81777851&Image=http://finance.autoexposure.co.uk/is/autoedit/AETA44465/AETV81777851_1a.jpg
If the cars cheap for a reason, theres always a reason why, so i decided to get near new metal, with only 1000 miles on the clock, with a really good spec, i couldnt refuse.

I could of bought from a private buyer but my dealer would not offer me £18500 trade in for my passat. He wouldnt give me same figure unless i bought a car via them and that all 5 door dsg ed30's with sat nav,and lots of extras were in the region of £24000 for a good one. most other car dealer would only give me 16k for my passat or so, so i would of had to fork out more to get a high spec car that i wanted.
I had to keep to a tight budget as have just spent 10-12 grand on new kitchen and bathroom at the same time so had to watch my spending
I couldnt be happier with what ive bought, absolutly made up and glad to be back in a Mk GTi.
You just get such almost a smug feeling driving it, as the ammount of on lookers is unbelievable!. Just cant beat the feeling ;)

also had a couple of shots were my mate had to remove the rear VW badge/handle as his was damaged and VW wanted £50 quid just to fit it, so he bought a brand new unit of ebay for £20 and fitted it himself, sorry not the best of quality photos taken of a mobile  :embarassed:

No very easy it only took him 15 mins the hardest bit was taking off the back cover hoping that none of the clips broke as he did have to pull it hard to get it off, then he had to loosen a few screws from the rear washer motor and then the 3 screws from the handle all sorted alot better then he thought

Here you go. No pics of the standard back box though. The standard VAG downpipe has two CATS, one right on the turbo and a second a little further back. No wonder the engine is so strangled in standard trim.

Rosie....
Need to see some picture of your new arse, that's if you've had it done yet !!!!!!
Also what springs did you have fitted and was it only springs or did you have shocks fitted as well...
As for you tints. I had mine done at 30%, but with the original windows having a tint as well it does put them over the legal limit...
Just don't go drawing attention to yourself.... ie. Taking your car to the near limit... Yes I did read you post before you deleted it.

Also I'm quite shocked at how mingin everyone's tailpipes are - there's only toph's which look anything decent. bit of meguires metal polish and some elbow grease should sort that one out

*blonde moment* i have no idea what springs are fitted, i went to a supposed coachworks and said i wanted it lowered and it was done. I didnt do it properly, i know, dont shout.

In terms of the tints, i have just got the car back from having them re done, they are 30% everywhere apart from the front, they are a shade lighter.  went down to the forth rail bridge tonight at sunset to get some nice pics done of them but my bloody camera batteries died! Gutted, not to worry, will get some soon and post them.

I do try not to draw attention to myself you know, but for some reason i always attract it. But i have to say in my 2 years of driving i have never been pulled my the cops, not even once!! so there!  :smug:

And your tints look darker than mine (mine are 30%)

I thought that! Well i havnt got it finished yet . Its doing my head in coz people keep commenting on it and i am fully aware of how it looks, but other things happen in life!! It will be done asap though.

Well, and again dont shout, but i was made to pay cash in hand for the tints and springs. So no invoice, no trail. Anyway, i know now that it was because they were doing such a rubbish job. But you learn by your mistakes.  :embarassed:

The tints are deffinatly 30%, it could be the crappy scottish weather making them look darker :undecided:? Il get some good ones done in the sun if it ever comes out here again.

I only popped in to book my GF's car in for a service and it was sat there all polished up saying "Buy Me". I had originally been after a white one but once i'd driven it I was sold! You really did look after it, just like I plan too, ive washed and polished it 4 times already and ive only had it a week! Must admit I have a bit of an OCD when it comes to my car cleaning, the MK2 is washed and polished and sits in my garage under a cover.
TBH thou my MK2 is going as I just dont use it and it needs to make room for the MK5 as a bloody cat keeps walking up and down the bonnet, if I catch it....

Well pleased for you, I want to ask what you paid but it'll probably ruin my night!!

Really glad your happy with it, don't know if you realised or not but there's a K&N panel filter tucked away in the air box! Call it my 'new car' present to you

Couldn't be bothered to take the engine cover off again as its scary

Yeah likewise I dont want to know how much they gave you px as it will ruin my night too. I couldnt be happier with it and yeah I noticed the K&N sticker under the bonnet and did have a feeling. I like the GTI and VW badges on your new one I take it they were on mine too, ive been looking for something similar to put on mine but cant find anything yet :(
As for your plate I understand its all in hand, must admit I wasnt a big fan of private plates but I think it quite suits it. Looks like I might have to find one. So where do you live as I notice you also have a listers plate surround on your MK2?

thanks guys..

everybody has been saying they like the old 18" monzas better then these.. The monzas i had were replicas and 8j not 7.5j so stuck out a lil more.

to be honest were i live monzas are everywere and on everything

plus the shiny effect was a lil to bling for me

The s3s are lighter, 7.5j also on the inside they have stamped audi, speedline, and the JW bbs mark (didnt think they were made by bbs) Im happy with them as i aint seen another car with these alloys not to mention an s3 at all!!

just searching for some center caps now.

How come you went for the Eibach Sportlines as apposed to the H&R ????

Yep so standard but good in away as wheels and bits will be coming off,

I had Sportlines in stock at work, not sure if the H&Rs lowered it alittle more

Hi... Rob-MK5
Standard for now.....
Carn't make my mind up, Sportlines, H&R or Eibach coilovers. Not going for the pro-kit as it doesn't lower it enough (only about 10-15mm)

Thanks Gazbutmk5gti, I'm looking at getting some 18" versions of those, they make the GTI look smooooooth!

Post by: gazbutmk5gti on 10 May 2008, 18:19
They are very similar to the pescara's on the ED30, only silver and they have motorsport embossed in them, it might be cheaper to find a secondhand set of them if your gonna stick with 18's

Oh my god still in state of shock, websites back up online again, i best hurry get this in before the sky crashes down on us!!!................
ok another weekend has arrived and thought ill try and do some detailing for a change. get rid of some of those horrid swirls. i used these products if anyones interested.. Meguires Deep crystal system paint cleaner 1st. Then did a layer of autoglyms aqua wax after for the wax treatment. Used Armoral tyre foam to dress the rubber and simoniz alloy cleaner on the rims.Auto glym lifeshine glass protector on the screen and windows, and finally back to black on the front honeycombs and fog lamp faceplates. was well chuffed with results, just wish i could magic away the dam stone chips i inherited from the previous owner, they must of liked tail gaiting or something!.

top tip to maximise the the reflections in your photographs is to use a circular polarizing filter (if you have a digital SLR camera). It also helps to remove reflections if you to do that.

Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: maxamus on 23 May 2008, 01:00
How can you tell?

Well, both pictures are exactly the same. If you look at the surrounding environment its EXACTLY the same on both shots which is impossible (because it would have changed inbetween changing alloy wheels for bigger ones). Plus, the car is parked at EXACTLY the same location (down to the last stone on the ground) on both shots with exactly the same light/shade contrasts which is impossible to achieve (without using CGI) because of time lapse. And, the shadow falls at exactly the same spot on both shots with the same amount of length of shade

Its clearly a case of "spot the difference" which in this case is gigantic Monza II's.
Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: 08micsta on 23 May 2008, 08:51
Thats is a definite photoshop
I mimick what Maxamus said. I was going to post that. And notice too that the back wheel is slightly blurred? Thats pixelation. I.E enlargement.

Play nicely. Maybe he is getting those? There is a MK4 somehwhere running 19" Monza's with diamond cut finish like the W12.

Its getting worse, they can penalise you for every motoring infraction from speeding to parking, almost automatically, but they can't stop scumbags stealing your car, using violence and causing damage to your property.

The Police should turn their attention to proper policing like stopping young people carrying knifes and catching burglars.

Gutted for you 182 mate.

After a long break since i had my GTI MK2 I'm back to GOLF . Well, would've of course preferred GTI but as it was too much for me at this particular time i've settled down with 1.6 SE FSI. Have to say that i'm absolutley loving this car .

Title: Re: Pics of your motors?
Post by: Horney on 02 September 2008, 22:54
You're too kind gents.

The Kellogs Variety Pack box is mild genius though I have to confess. I should be doing an evening course starting at the end of the month that will see me with a City and Guilds qualification at the end of 12 months which will be a start. It's long way to go though as my kit while OK for a beginner won't cut the mustard in the pro world. My whole set up cost in the region of £1K, most pros carry around a minimum of £5K's worth of kit. In some instances (like sports toggers) they carry nearer £20K's worth!!!!!!

You know at football matches you see lots of cameras with these on:

That'll set you back a cool £5,444 and most sports toggers have a couple. Not to mention that the camera body they use costs a meager £4,650.

I've never tried it before and the camera is only a Panasonic Lumix, but I thought I'd give it a go and see how they turned out. The swirly background one was only a bit of a play on photochop and only took about a minute to do. Glad I got at least one right TBH

....This is getting embarrassing, Hurdy! - I keep complimenting your pics! This one is very subtle: The grey-sliver shades of the waterfall and the same colour scheme on your car.

Lovely pic hurdy.

I dont understand though... You are using your Lumix camera right?
In some of your pics it looks like the bonnet is really really long. Maybe it just the CF bonnet or the camera but something does not look right.

Almost like a fish something or other lens that almost pulls the image forward. Maybe its my imagination...

Lovely though. Nice composition with a nice silver overtone

The camera is a Lumix and is set on a wide-angle setting for that pic, which gives it that slight "fish-eye" lens look, which I was after

Vtec.

Photoshop is a photographers friend. Like the camera it is simply a tool to enhance the pic. I have looked through all the pages on this thread (OMFG it took ages) and saved some pics that I liked. All the pics for the calendar will be enhanced slightly as it just gives it a slicker more proffesional look to it. The one in your sig is ace though

Andy would you mind getting rid of the number plate for me on the sig I posted? I still have no photoshop.

I am officially sick of Opensuse. Its fast. Its efficient but not for me. Just ordered Windows Vista (Not sure if its any better) so should be running again soon.

In the price range of that little fart over there I can afford a MK4 GTi. OR other Golfs besides a MK5. But it makes more sense to get this. Or at least thats what I keep telling myself.

For now I just need something that can do a good job. Is creative (It helps market the business) and wont cost me an arm and a leg. Oh and cos I am mad with detailing it must be small. Less effort  :lipsrsealed:

And its a convertible with the touch of a button which is awesome for me in SA.

Yup Red was referring to your picture. I liked Phils but the closer shot seems to pull it off really well

With the head and steve dont worry about it. I have been going through the threads saving selections that my entire matric art class and teacher like (The many joys of having projectors in every classroom) and will post them up.

From there a poll will be held for which pictures are wanted (Obviously 12 get selected) and then I will have a play with photshop. Tweak some colours. Remove heads etc and present the final calender. INaturally a request will  be sent out for the owners of those 12 vehicles for their permission to use the pics and then they can each get a say with regards to numberplates etc etc.

Everyone happy with that?

Mike

At this point Im not sure. I have been thinking that the end of November is leaving it too late. What do you guys think about making it the end of October that entries close? The reason I have not closed it is because of all the meets etc and there are always some great pics from them.

Phil or Hurdy- Would you mind somehow adding that entries close at the end of October? Theres still pretty much a whole month left and it gives more time to vote etc...  And then I can have us a calender before the end of November

^Surely this pic of the Mk5 gang (street kids) by cookiemonster has to appear somewhere, even if not one of the 12 months.

Top and bottom could be cropped to form a strip [I'm gonna do this for my purposes anyway]

But obviously those that were not there think otherwise. So here we are:

Those that were at the RR day that want a calender can get that pic as one of the months and those who were not there can get the calender without the prison lineup and have a car in its place  :nerd:

I've given up asking Rob this question! I sometimes wonder if the cars are actually his in the first place - I'm only suggesting that they may be exclusively used by him but in fact are company cars and that company's business is body styling.

does make you wonder why you'd spend all your hard earned doing the same mods to 2 identical cars except the colour of course.

Surely if his company business was body styling then he would put that on the car his cars OEM bits apart from wheels.  :smug:

Oi!

I am still around. And to be frank I wish i had more time to spend on both these forums.
Let em explain what is causing the wait....

1. Im writing my finals. Been writing for the last three weeks.... Lol. And doing really well
2. There are over forty pages of cars!!! Thats five minutes to load each page equating to over 3 hours of right clicking and saving pictures   Im finding the time  :embarassed:
3. I am trying to find a suitable voting team ranging from 14 year olds to 19 year olds so it can be fair.

Give me a week to get some votes in. Resize the pics and post them up. Then you all can vote...

Lots of love. XOXO etc etc

Still love you guys would never abandon you  :lipsrsealed:

Alrighty guys...

Myself and my team of minions have been through this entire thread....  :lipsrsealed:
My team consists of myself, a 18 year old, 17, 16, 15 and 14 year old. We sat and after much arguing have come up with 41 pics we like.

Unfortunately it seems that the cars are all either silver, red, white or black.... So choice is limited. I will be posting them up tomorrow once they have been limited to 20 pictures by 5 other 18 year olds.

My back now hurts from sitting here

Red... I only have one pic of your car? The one nick took? Will scoure my PC for more that I may have saved though. In fact i still have the pics that Hrdy posted the day he got his Edition 30  :smug:

Some older guys.. Max Q, Duzza, Domt T all guys that not been around posted some pretty cool pics too.

Mike

You can use any of my pics you want Mike. I don't consider them private in any way, shape or form

If you want some higher def originals, rather than the ones in the thread, just let me know :nerd:
