Has anyone heard of Stop Tech brakes before?
The reason I am asking is that I talked to one of their reps on their stand at the Autosport show and they do a ceramic brake set-up for the MKV Golf. 4 or 6 pot calipers and a 328 mm vented ceramic rotor. Pricey at - - - wait for it - - - £3800  but the only one I have seen that is specific to the MKV.
Rep let me hold the rotor and hub in one hand and the standard rotor in the other. OMG the difference in weight is unbelievable  I could have held three of the ceramic ones in one hand and they still wouldn't have weighed what the standard one did. Link below but unfortunately doesn't show the new ceramic ones

woosh £3.8k what you planning on doing Hurdy sounds a serious bit of kit.
surely a 4 pot set up would be more than enough for a mapped ed30.

slowly you start to go nuts.... first it was thinking about remapping, then you've done that, now you speak about ceramic brakes...

The ceramics are tempting. What I deliberately didn't mention was that they aren't widely used (for obvious £Â£Ã‚£Ã‚£ reasons) and are therefore relatively untested. I will end up going for a standard rotor as competition spec "put your face through the windscreen" brakes are a bit excessive.
I had originally made my mind up on the ECS stage 5 brake kit, but as it is basically a Porsche Cayenne stopper I'm not too keen. Porsche brakes are good, but have been known to bind and lock on as well as squeal. The search continues

Having big brakes is one thing.. but stopping is usually limited to the level of grip your tires have. Believe me I have had mine lock up on me many a time. Its not bigger brakes you need... its another tire

I'm not just talking about sheer stopping power, I'm also talking about brake fade issues and the ability to brake later when I do trackdays.

I guess thats fair enough. Only spending nearly 4k on brakes is crazy talk!! You seem to have got the stronger strain of the Gti retuning bug i thinks!
You must be getting close to S3 money now Hurd?? :lipsrsealed:

-
What is this retro fit cruize?
-
What is this retro fit cruize?
Cruise control. It lets you set a speed on the road and sticks to it without you having to press the accellerator. If you press the brake it cancels the cruise speed. It can be fitted by the dealer and is £120 cheaper than having it fitted at the factory. :nerd:
-
vw in huddersfield did my cruise for £100 fitted last month
-
Can you get cruise control on manual or is it only available on auto?

Very tru! I think i know the answer to this... but any regrets?? The S3 I seen last week was fully spec'd for about 33k. A simple remap would have got you 300+ bhp. i kow your stereo cost a fair bit, but the bose one is more than capable of doing the job would be included in the price.
Not tempted???

manual and auto mate
-
as a matter of interest what size brakes do the ed3o have, as the mk2 leon cupras are bigger(same as mk5 r32) i believe.
-
312mm at the front, R32 345mm

*Thinks about it for a fraction of a second*
Nah
1. Needed 5drs
2. Prefer DSG
3. Would have forked out on a remap either way
4. Would still have forked out on the aftermarket satnav
5. Would have still gone for the GAP
6. Would have still gone for the Service etc
7. Would have still bought a Forge DV
8. Would have still bought the CG-Locks.
So, all in all I would have probably been up near £40k with the S3 and it would still be a manual with 2drs.

now if memory serves me right, my old mk4 gti 180, that had the same 312mm fronts, and the ed30 has the same?
am thinking new set up now.
i blame you Hurdy.lol
