Is your car standard? Could be Lack of boost, A remap and a carbonio air intake would help. Dont know too much about these spliter dv's tho. :undecided:

standard m8 didnt but it for the noice really but it was cheap and of a local so thought i would get it plus cant really go wrong with a upgrade from the plastic 1 just wierd it really loud wen not driving it
car feels better tho got a bit more get up and go
cheers rich

if its recirculating, you wont get the"ptshhhh" sound. it will run alot better as there is not restriction like on the bosch plastic valve.....
does it hold its boost properly when you florr it in 5th, at about 110mph?

Its a forge splitter dv it dumps some air into the atmosphere and some back into the system.
-
ive got 1 of these but mine is remapped and it doesnt make any noice wen not in gear but does whhssss wen driving.have u tried adjusting the screw bit at the end. this lets the release hole get bigger or smaller depending how much air u want to let go for the sound?
-
acoording to forge u cant adjust the sound the adjuster is how hard the spring is set inside u adjust this to get it to hold the boost properly apparently i have moved it about and test drove it but if u got to far way the car dosent seem to pull properly
-
u have got the right spring in there havent you as theres different colours for different boosts?

hmmmmm.... ive heard about these split valves, but never really understood....... ive got an HKS SSQV on mine, which is a Atmospheric, but i have pipework to turn it into a recirc when i want to....
when it is recirculating, it makes a wicked sound still, but even when its atmospheric, the myth about it messing up is complete rubbish! it just makes your car run richer thats all, but all turbo cars run rich --- thats a legend!
in my opinion, i feel that split DV's are overated and well.... pointless...... you either want it going in, or going out..... a split just causes confusion~! lol!

Its not complete rubbish!! I quote from forgemotorsport :
" The Splitter is a truly remarkable valve that gives a combination of blow off and recirculation valve operation all at the same time and has been specifically designed for the many VAG 1.8T applications. This means you get all the noise of the blow off valve whilst retaining the compatibility with the recirculation requirements of the engine management system "
It may not always throw on a light on the dash but you engine Will not run correctly with an atmospheric dv.
Ask any one on here its been proved time and time again!!

rich exactly y i went for a forge because most on here said the the best and most suited for the car as i toyed with just chuckin a normal dv at it but then i rather my car run properly than run the risk of killing something if not now maybe a few months down the line
i mean how many people have said dont put a normal dv on the 1.8t engine hhhmmmmmmmm me thinks theres a reason for this dont u
And for what i paid for i cant compain
Idont know what spring it has in it i would defo say it has the original 1 that it comes with it thats an help

Exactly mate you hit the nail on the head!!!

can i say that that quote you got is very good P.R and great advertising gismo..... thers been a thread before about it i think? but anyway, in regards to correct functioning (lol) VAG have gone something really wrong somewhere..... as alot of turbo cars do.....
every turbo car comes with a recirc dump valve..... these are placed in because they are there simply to ruin your turbo.... its so the drivers have to buy consumables i.e a new turbo every year..... when they recirc, they force air more back into the turbo the wrong way, causing it to stall, lag, chatter and spin the WRONG way for a second or two.... this puts loadsa force on the turbine itself and even the housing, causing whichever to crack first......
i completely agree that it makes it run not as it should, as everything in modern cars is controlled by electronics etc.... but its only telling the engine is hasnt got enough air making it componsate for it with petrol! lol! so therefore runs rich and spits flames like a jet! this can be overcome buy fitting a CAI..... i think? BSC Hons Automotive design, thats what they taught me!
i dont want 2 offend anyone, but the myth id say is Boll*x..... if anything will break it'll be a sensor...... me thinks?
-
every 1 to there own and i dout u affenede any 1 lol i just think that wen u read god knows how many threads sayin a normal dv is not good that sways me slighty to puttin the rite parts on the car but hay what works for may have not worked for me but will prob work for others is ur car mapped sivleradobullet
or standard and have u just caped the air box side of the dv off
-
well i was in the same situation when i bought mine, didnt know what DV 2 go 2 , but asked a few of my mechanic mates and they said it was rubbish, and i believe it now....
on the metal pipe for the turbo, ive welded on the HKS DV and the rubber pipe which extends (normally) to the bottom of a DV is the pipewrok which recirculates back into the intake...... its a good setup!
it aint mapped (yet) and im running a Carbon Fibre K&N CAI, sounds beautiful.....
i guess its good 2 have it recirculated if there is a chance of it going wrong, id say its down to something else.... newer engines arnt toys and alot of people tinker with them and dont have a clue..... not saying you dont, just sayin there are other reasons for them to fail...
-
tbh m8 i have no fookin clue about these engines well turbos and the way they work to be exact altho i culd do most mechanical jobs my dad is a mechanic for god knows how many years and a mot tester but he not to keen on workin on turbos either thats y i been listenin to what other people have said lol
its all good fun and a learning curve tho
-
just rememeber..... "if it boost's into red, ya turbo's dead!" lol!
-
lol
how do i know if it in the red my boost gauge aint got colours lol

Well it depends on which 1.8T engine you have.
The early ones IE: AGU (Non drive by wire) dont have a map sensor (http://autorepair.about.com/cs/generalinfo/l/bldef_495.htm) so you can get away with it to some extent.
Later one IE: AUM/AUQ Drive by wire DO have map sensors and Will go into limp mode and f*** up the MAF!!!
I think the forge 007p gives a nice sound which can be heard in the car a tiny bit and not outside. Its not too loud and OTT. But each to your own if eveyone was the same the world would be a boring place!

rich do u rember i put a post up about a fluttering noise well since i changed the dv it dont do it any more
also this split dv is well lound wen u rev it hard wen not in gear but cant hear it at all wen u driving it well weird

Yeah i remember! The fluttering noise would have been the noise of air being circulated back into the system!

oic that cures that 1 lol cheers fella
-
So is this a common thing then, the dv not making any noise whilst actually driving? im getting one fitted tomorrow but to be honest i like the noise when changing gear so maing me think twice lol
-
its strange that... i take it youve got the k03turbo? u should be able to hear a noise when the windows are up and the radio is off...... but not from outside the car.....hmmmmmm
-
nope didly sqat only can hear it wen not driving the car well weird who knows ill go back over everythink i did and make sure all ok no leaks ect
-
do you have a cold air feed?
-
na should have 1 tom tho and my new miltek y u ask m8
-
Because apparently the DV's sound louder when you got a cold air feed, you will hear something when thats on!
What Milltek you go for? Let me know what its like and if you feel any major gains!
