is my car runnin right however and wherever i get 24 - 27 mpg thats not muchmore than my mates evo! what can i do? help its costin a fortune
-
22 is good in mine
-
Not sure how accurate these mpg readings are on our mk2's. I average 27 most of the time and the most i've got it to was 33 when i drove 20 miles at a constant 60mph.
Some people claim to reach around 40mpg but i really dont take any notice any more because i just dont think the readings are accurate enough to worry about.
-
22 you lucky barsteward I get an average of 19! going to do summat about it in the new year, not sure what but something needs doing!
-
i like to think it's a temperature reading instead
-
What car do you have?
I easily got a 42 on the mway doing a very constant 60 in my valver and at 70 it only went down and hovered around 39-40, normal town use with occasional roar  was about 28-32.
Before that, my normal was btwn 17 and 24. This was due to air leaks, injector seals, dodgy TCI module and general lack of maintainence by previous owners.
There are thin clear vac pipes that go into cloth like braided rubber hoses, check these havent perished as they control the mfa readings.
-
Mine reads around 35 on average
No matter how hard I thrash it
Probably a slight (read- major) exaggeration by the computer
But nevermind!
Although I do think it is generally quite good on fuel regardless of what the computer says

So so so so so many threads on MPG!
Must be the time of year for it..... Could it be the cold weather means engine takes longer to heat up so is running rich for longer?
Either way it must be said that the MPG display on the dash is the most unreliable reading to go by! It relies on a vacuum line that could be 20 yrs old by now, tiny leak in it and your reading is off.
The only reliable way to gauge your true MPG is take notes of fuel in, miles done and average it over a few tanks.

Or use my magical mpg calculator!

Great stuff! How can i use it??
-
It's in it's ifancy at them moment I shall stick it online when I iron out a few problems :)
-
Great stuff, would appreciate that.
-
at mo mine says around 14 but usually says around 16 mpg and i believe it because i work about 3 miles from home so 6 miles a day x5 days= 30 miles and i put £10 in every week and it uses it but most of my journey home is sat in traffic

Or use my magical mpg calculator!
It's looking good! What language are you writing it in?
-
Language is c# it's just something I threw together for my use but thought it would be useful for others once I made it :)
-
Definately bang it up here when its ready mate
Looks real good!

Interesting !!!
I am currently doing an analysis on my 8v, comparing unleaded and super unleaded.
I averaged 31 mpg on unleaded whereas the MFA was reading 32, so not too far out. I am now going to do the same analysis using BP super unleaded and see what the difference is (apart from the price).
Will let you know..

I take the point but I've worked out the mpg on a tank by tank basis and the MFA is very close to the figure that I came up with, 37 mpg
