Ok so drove to derby this evening to toys r us lol. Bought what we needed etc.
Go out to the car started it and it says engine workshop and a flashing symbol. I was thinking the worse to be honest.
Got home and looked in my manual and it says glow plug symbol. So i am guessing the glow plugs are on there way out.
Know whats the cost of this? Also are they somthing you can do yourself?
Thanks all.
-
thats just a fault indicator its very rarely glow plugs. mine did the same to me it was the brake light switch, have you checked ur brake lights?
-
Oh no aint checked that. I will give it ago now then. If the brake lights working right. How do i get rid of the damm flashing light lol.
Just been out side and break lights are working fine. My sister knows this vw specialist whos a bit cheaper than taking it to proper vw place.
He will have a look.
-
you need to get a diagnostic check. there's a vw specialist in somercotes he's got all the diagnostics. and he's good. hope this helps.
-
How much can i be expecting to pay for diagnoses?
Somercoates aint to far away from me. How did you know to recommend such garage lol
-
cos you mentioned about going to derby. i think he charges 30 quid for putting it on the computer.
-
I hope it aint owt serious cause i will be pissed off if it is.
I just prey for somthing not so bad lol.
-
Taken it down to local 2moro morning. Me dad knows the guy so it will be cheaper lol.
Lets see what the computer finds 2moro.

The squeeking noise on the other hand is annoying. I will ask him when i get down there.
-
Come back from garage. And guess what sod all wrong with it lol.
He said it thought it might bit what you said rhyso. But no.
Now hes wondering how to get rid of the flashing thing. Any of you guys know owt?
A guy said to me trying cleaning your airfilters out. I will give it ago lol
-
Ok its been a few weeks since i said this happend. And i still have it flashing up. I was ment to take it around mates house who has fault reader but never got around to it.
Last night my mate notiched that headlight is out on the right front. Its the 2 small ones.
This could of been like this for weeks for all i know lol.
You reckon this is why its done the engine workshop ?
-
its possible.
Was reading the other day that they tend to throw up the worst possible codes even for bulbs as a safety feature :undecided: its to make sure you attend to the problem ASAP!
Don't have scare the sh!t out of you though!!
-
I am guessing its a simple stright forward thing to replace any way.
I am off to motor mania in few mins to get some. I think its the 2 small ones thats gone not the bigger one on the right.
Yes they do scare. It should not say engine workshop. It should actually say the fault lol.
-
Well what an awful fiddley job that was lol. I got the new bulb in all working it is. But i cant get the spring clip back in lol.
I tested to see if the fault code has gone but no luck.
-
you need a fault code reader, i think changing the headlight bulbs is one of the hardest jobs on a mk4!!! its a nightmare!!!
-
My mate come over yesturday with his fauly code checker. Hes got a 2000 tdi modded to hell lol.
So we plug it in and it comes up with this code 16955.
He checks it on the computer when he gets home.
And he says is the code for brake switch. Ahahahahahh why couldent the guy who my dad knows tell me that lol.
So its the break light switch need replacing lol.
-
is there meant to be a light on the dash come up when a light blows?
i had a break light go out the other week and the only way i found out was a mate that was following me out of work told me about it
-
no i don't think so
