Just thought i would ask the question, as when i sold my mk 4 golf and got this one i knew that i didnt want to keep the mk4 for another 4-5 years and wait for the mk6 golf or the iroc to come along. So when at the dealers we sorted out in 3 years they will buy back the mk5 gt and i can get something nice and new again :smug: :smug:  .
So is any one else doing anything like this or do you all love your mk5's and will be keeping them forever ? :undecided:
-
had my mk5 since may.... keeping her most certainly
-
i love my mk5 and would not trade looking at what the mk6 may look like!! although it may make a good gti but with design drawbacks and lack of funds i rekon the mk5 will be the best made gti for a while.
-
sure new golf might be very good and fancy, but can't change car every year.
will hold to mine for at least couple of years.
-
Buy mine on 3 yrs PCP so it will be bye bye ED30 in 2010 (or maybe sooner if my job app to Saudi comes off next year ).
Had my Mk4 GT TDI for just over the 3 year period, works well for me, within warranty and no MOTs.
-
since end of july
-
Keeping mine for good...
-
Keeping mine and it will probably end up as the Missis's car.
-
I don't know.... I've been looking at S3 again :lipsrsealed:
-
keeping mine for another year at least

I am keeping my Ed30 for at least 2 more years. But no remap will make E30 as fast as S3, sadly. With a simple 305hp remap S3 is 5.5 to 100km/h and 270km/h top (330hp = 5.1 to 100km/h), not to forget it's behaviour in twisties, uphill, and on wet surfaces. I think white E30 with black rims looks marginally better than a similar S3, but that is weighed up by S3 looking less "wagon", due to it's lower hight (140cm). S3 is sweet.
I said it is overpriced, it is, but that does not mean I don't want it, I do!
E30 is a sweetheart. It is great for what it offers. Yesterday I had 3 girls in my car, so finally I had some weight  over the back axle, so suspension is now set. I gave it some, it axed nicely, but it was looooosing traction uphill  and it rolls a little too much, I think Eibach Pro-System Plus is in order. :lipsrsealed:
-
Any luck with the 3 girls??
-
sold mine  dealer has got mine up for sale for £19495 on an 05 reg!

There was an S3 at Inters this year and it "only" managed 0-60 in 5.75 after several passes.
Mine got 0-60 in 5.66 and so was faster on the day...mainly down to the DSG I would believe :smug:
5.5 seconds 0-62 for a standard S3 sounds good, but achieving it consistently with a manual is another thing.
Round the twisties is another thing though. Man those S3's corner

Any luck with the 3 girls??
one of them was my GF: tall, blond, 22, Siberian girl  :lipsrsealed:

today caught up with a similar white E30 at a red light, the guy did not see me, his light turned green and he turned left. His rear skirt was black in the middle and instead of 2 pipes he had one big oval. Looked really great! (he had black rims, of course  )

....In answer to the original post:
True Love Is Forever! Which means that I don't have any plans to sell mine. The Mk6 will have to be pretty amazing on all counts to follow the Mk5 GTI's act!
-
I only have mine for another 21 months!! Then its time to think about the s3, m3 or rs4 im affraid...
Unless I decide on a visit to good ol HPA  In which case look out Mr S3

Three year contract from end April 2006.
Wish I'd taken the two year option.
not happy with yours?
No, not particularly
Previously had a Leon Cupra 180bhp - absolutely fantastic for £15k - and initially expectations were fairly low, but I was very happy to be proved wrong. Sure, there were problems along the way, but at fifteen grand you make allowances, don't you ? I kept it for an additional twelve months beyond the contract, because I couldn't find anything that took my fancy - that includes driving the GTI, which I felt was really only more of the same, although it definitely handled better - and the WRX (the handling of which knocked the GTI into a cocked hat, by the way).
So I plumped for the Golf, because I needed a new car. At nearly £23k   with the few bits I added. Sure, the Golf handles better, and the DSG is a hoot (most of the time). But, you know what? I just can't be bothered with it anymore. The rattly speaker cards. The rattly dash. The unexpected DSG changedown and maximum revs at low-speed sharp corners. The rear wash-wipe coming on all on it's own. The 75mph clank. The awful "Is that a diesel, mate?" idle noise.
From a car at this price level, that's atrocious.
So, at more than 50% more money than the SEAT, you might say the Golf has proved to be a very disappointing vehicle to run.
Hope that answers your question

Sorry to hear about that Teebee.
All I can say is you must have bought either a Monday morning or a Friday night car :undecided:

yep, I think you are ripe for something different, BMW 335 maybe, or Audi A4 (new model), a MB even.

I am a big fan of that 335 bmw engine.. its just a dream!!

Petrol version to 380bhp.
The diesel is 282bhp and....wait for it....428lb/ft .......and can tune to 330bhp+ and 466lb/ft

NOW THATS WHAT IM TALKING ABOUT!!  I know i have said that I would like to get a HPA365 and stuff but for the cost it might just be better to pick up one of them little babies! that is just an awsome amount of power... and the coupe is a lovelly car to drive, so well balanced, and stuck together well too. Isnt much more you could ask for from a coupe really!! (except 4wd of course)

I hate to say it.. but it just doesnt appeal to me!! Its almost like they plugged an A6 and a coupe formula into a computer and out came the design for the S5. it just exactly what you would expect a A6 coupe to look like... does anyone else not think this??? Im sure its a great car... but just not for me. I think BMW do a S5 equivalent anyway... known in familar circles as the M3  (but to be honest i dont really like the look of this either) The norm 335 petrol is subtle yet a monster underneath
-
....I agree with R32UK - The A5/S5 looks like a barge! I've seen plenty both here and in Germany. They are undoubtedly a good car but look gross in real life in my opinion. A wasted design opportunity.

Exactly!! and whats with the led crap on the front... its a bloody grown ups car not a 5yr old design guru with stick on lights work!! A baby version of the r8 would have wiped the floor.. but again like red said.. a wasted opportunity :undecided:

I much prefer the looks of 335i

....I really like those LED Daylight Driving Lights. They work really well at high speed to warn you of a fast approach without blinding you or making it more difficult to judge the distance.

cool pick RR
I agree I think they look great , but would need to be part of the oem sidelights rather than add ons imho
boy is that car low...
maybe do the red round the grille as LED

Agreed that the best place for DRL's on the GTI is where the sidelights are. Hella make a DRL that replaces the foglights on standard Mk5 Golfs but they don't fit the Mk5 GTI !! How stupid is that!?

i know those led lights fitted on the golf above are very easy to fit to the R32... have seen this done to a number of US models. But not really to my taste tbh

....As I recall, they are not easy to fit at all - Metal has to be cut! There's a step-by-step I've seen on one of the car forums but I can't remember which one.
-
Sorry but those DRL LED's aren't to my taste as they spoil the lines od the car.

to me it looks absolutely nothing special.
Oettinger GTI looks special to me.
-
Sits at a nice height. Dont like the front. No number plate. Not a big fan of the wheels. And if hes not careful hes gonna end up with a burnt shinny head!!
-
....Front number plate not required in some States of America.
-
sorry, but that is one butt-ugly GTI
-
Sorry but those DRL LED's aren't to my taste as they spoil the lines od the car.
I do like LED's when used carefully, but I'd feel like a right prat if I had eyebrows on my Ed30 and LEDs in the front like that and I'd have to go to shows with a brown paper bag over my head... :embarassed: :embarassed:
The GTI is an iconic car, not a circus act and should be kept as is unless the mods are discreet and purposeful, rather like the GTI ethos. Only very few GTIs get away with in your face modding - Red Robin's lovely GTI is an exception although even with that car, the four-quad exhausts ... :lipsrsealed:

....Yep, I would have gone for a R32 style of exhaust had that option been available 2 years ago. I was offered the quads at a good price (one of the first in the UK) and have got quite used to their appearance. They do seem to keep boy-racers at bay!

i suppose the quads dont look too bad. i think it has more to do with the decals n the rear window
nice looking gti thow  is at an ed30 or did you have the panels smoothed and sprayed?

....No power gains other than from the Hi-flow+Downpipe (aka Turbo-back). The sound is possibly slightly different - Deeper? But I haven't made direct comparisons.

....Each to their own and respect for other people's taste (or lack of it!)
All the decals represent people I enjoy a particularly good relationship with: Tyresmoke car community, Revo, AP Racing, Milltek, BIALI Motorsport. They have helped me and I'm happy to promote them. I wouldn't put stickers on the body though.
It's a modified 06 spec GTI, not Ed30, with Abt rear valance, Mk5 R32 sides (and OSIR front splitter), all colour coded.
Cheers
