Which?
-
What we talking here, a lil race? if thats the case the mk5 should win hands down.
V6 4Motion only has 190ish(?) an a 4 wheel drive system to power
GTi is 197? 2wd, should piss it.
-
the v6 is 204bhp, but weighs a bit more.
from standing start the only way the mk4 should win is if you're on a wet road.
-
204!?!?! where at the fly?
-
aye. the old 2.9 vr6 in the raddo made over 190 stock, and the 4motion engine has twice as many valves!
-
hmm... i now want one.
-
Interesting...did mean in a race and aswell like overall...some guy bought one and is like flying around gib, expect him to be up my arse any time soon so really, i wanna know what im against xD
-
well his torque curve will give him access to all the power at any rev range, whereas you'll need to be at the right rpm to get the best from your turbo.. it'll really depend on the situation as to who will come out on top there.
-
i think, as what iv heard from the motor...its got an air filter and an exhaust. f*in loud that car
-
if it's been tuned to suit those mods then it could be making over 230bhp
-
^^^
Thats your cue not to mess with him
P.S- Racing against other cars and running from the police is not allowed on this forum :lipsrsealed:
-
think youl find running from the police isnt allowed anywhere due to it being illegal san, an u cant race but you can Dabble
-
MKIV would be faster off the mark even with 1400kg to tow with 204bhp
MKV GTI would be faster once running as it "only" has 1328kg to tow at 197 bhp
More importantly torque for the 4 motion is 199lb/ft as opposed to the 207lb/ft of the GTI which gives a more realistic measure of what mid-range pulling power a car has.
The MKV GTI undoubtably has the better suspension and handling characteristics over the 4motion
In all the GTI would probably be pipped off the line, but once up and running the GTI would blow the 4motion into the weeds  assuming it isn't wet

V6
0-60 mph 6.9 s
Power Output 204 bhp
Torque 270 Nm 199 lb-ft
Top Speed 146 mph
Weight 1401 kg
GTI mk5
0-60 mph 7.0 s
Power Output 197 bhp
Torque 280 Nm 207 lb-ft
Top Speed 146 mph
Weight 1328 kg
Pretty even fight on paper, although I think the extra weight hanging out the front would damage the V6 round a track and the extra torque would help the GTI out of corners.

Here is a bit more info about the MKIV. Slower than I first thought.

Add a Stage1 remap to the Mk5 GTI and you'll get 300 ft lb torque and around 245 bhp

From reading that, on a track I think it would get its arse handed to it by a standard Mk5 GTI, and murdered by an Edition 30 or one with a few good mods.
-
very interesting indeed, so it should be quite a close one....

Only until you get it into second gear and disappear round the first corner
-
for some reason ur making me look forward to it...might need to go for a little cruise and watch him appear in my rear view...
-

I would never do that  I'm a sensible :rolleyes:moderator
A little play outside of built up areas may be a different thing

Thats just nonsense... VW Driver magazine when reviewing the Mk5 GTI wayback said that the Mk5 GTI 'totally trounces' the 1.8T 180ps MkIV GTI and was faster than the Mk4 R32. Maybe on paper the Mk4 4-Motion maybe faster, but no way in real life, from a standing start or otherwise.
-
well I have owned both those (well an Ed30 GTI) plus an Mk4 R32 as well
The R32 was much faster than the 4mo, and the Ed30 is the same if not a tad quicker than the R32.
I would think a normal GTI would still be quicker, not least with the 4mos soggy suspension and handling.
