Quick question, my engine is showing as 90 which seems pretty hot to me
When I turn the car off, some steam comes through the grill just under the bonnet
Something is wrong but what I don't know!? Any ideas?
I'm taking it to VW anyway Friday so I'll get them to do both at the same time..............

my GTI has always run at 90 deg (middle point) ...never any steam though!
-
Yeah, mine runs at 90 degrees too. once it's there it never shifts. Don't get any steam coming out though :undecided:
-
Mine runs at 90. Only time I get steam is when it rains or from the jet wash.
-
yeah i did just wash it at the jet wash
damn it looks like a different car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
can actually see the wheels now!!!!
-
Its meant to run at 90, are you sure its steam and not smoke?
You might have some sort of leak somewhere inside which is causing the steam.
-
fack knows
gettin it checked friday anyway for something else so i'll double check then
-
yeah i did just wash it at the jet wash
damn it looks like a different car!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Is this not a symptom of coil pack that is going? If so i would be scared. Golfs tend to burst into flames when a coil pack goes.... :undecided:
-
if you wanna have fun, take your gti for a harsh country drive, get back and throw a bucket of water on your breaks!!!    that makes steam!!!
as for the 90degrees mines always sat at 90 :lipsrsealed:
-
Um. Is there perhaps a slight loss of power when you pull away? Does the car feel sort of sluggish?
If so then please get it to a dealer. ASAP
Thanks
(I should have put this message in my first post)

There is one other question I would like to ask. (I may have many questions, I spend a lot of time on GolfGTIForum.co.uk and enjoy helping out)
What is the average temperature a new MK5 GTI should run at? We have an owner on the forum who states that his runs at 90 degrees and when he switches the vehicle off a small amount of steam comes out the bonnet. Any advice you can give?
Michael
90 degrees is the correct operating temperature, I have not heard of anything like that,
so referring him to dealer would be a good idea, they should do a fault diagnosis on the vehicle.

I don't think steam coming out the bonnet is a good sign, unless it's a steam driven car!
-
it doesn't happen all the time but i took for a drive then a wash so i can only think from that
anyway taking to vw friday as mpg counter is flickering (the one when you're in transit) but going up to 80mpg.............i wish!!!!!!!!!!!!!
