-
in a white gti  :smiley:i expect all answers to be on private roads tracks or foreign roads of course.
-
Grando. 230km (thats just over 140mph on my own private runway in my back garden of course) ran out of road so had to back-off. I'v only had the car a few weeks so I hav'nt tried anything 2 mad!! Especially after my little scare in Deutschland last month
-
Not had chnce to go for it abroad - yet
-
What about private roads hurdy????
-

143 mph on GPS. Regularly 130 mph - All on German unrestricted autobahns. It feels great to drive for half the day and find you have averaged over 90 mph  You feel it's what the Mk5 GTI is designed and built for. Fecking UK driving is a drag looking out for someone out to get you every time the conditions are safe for making progress :(.

Only got to 120mph on GPS at Santa Pod after the 1/4 mile was over, so didn't really think it was worth a mention.
I have done some track days in Supercars, but haven't had the bottle to look at the speedo's at well over 100mph.
I'd love to give it the beans for the full stretch at Bruntingthorpe though
-
I thought this thread was asking top speed in Mk5 GTI and not other cars.
-
Well the conversation is moving on lol ............... wat kinda supercars???? Just bak from the ring at DTM race weekend!!! 180mph in a gt3 and a speeding fine of 1182 euro (not caught at 180m) different day!
-
I did around 245km/h in my backgarden, had a few hard turns and stuff and was quite suprised to how smooth the golf was compared to the clio, even had my passenger and the three people at the back sleeping after a night out up the coast

Hired a Merc ML 320 CDi on Monday in Munich.
Wished I had a GTI - I set the speedo on MPH but the digital showks KPH. Remarkabley steady on the Autobahn at this speed. I did see 215 at one stage.

As I said it was a hire car - not my choosing but I was quite impressed by the quality and performance on the road. The 320 diesel engine's not a patch on my 2.7 Jag and seemed much coarser than the the E320s I've driven.
Anyway back to the GTI's..... (which I haven't got yet - see Motoprovider post - no more photos Phil I can't bear to go past my local dealer)
-
Talking about rental speed, got 220kmh out of a 320 touring SHED on the autobahn last month!! There was road works and it was restricted to 60kmh and nearly sh1t myself when I flew past a 2 police cars going 160km over the limit with a car full of drunken idiots roaring and shouting!!! Good times..................... gooood times lol
-
I'm ALWAYS careful about the speed I do in England.....I'm off up to Scotland next week

I think that it would have gone faster, the speedo was still climbing when he backed off.
Brilliant!
-
I'm just back from a run in the country and came across a deserted, very straight piece of tarmac that ran for as far as I could see.
What to do?
Well I did what any self respecting petrol veined enthusiast would do and dropped 3 gears, nailed it and kept it nailed until the speedo read 250kph (156mph).
Had a great tailwind (known as the Spring Nor'wester over here) which really helped a lot. The car was still pulling very well and I think it would have run through 260kph (indicated) but I saw a car about a mile away so backed off down to 100 and called it a day.
It got a bit light feeling beyond 245kph but was very stable otherwise considering it was a bumpy narrow sh!tter of a road.
I'll post a speedo pic when I hit 265kph (165mph).

Hurdy,
It's not much better in the south of Scotland, but when I was up in the north west last weekend... If you get a chance, drive up to Ullapool and beyond; stunning scenery, empty roads and not a traffic cop in miles. Great fun...
