What tyres will you pick next?
Are you sticking with the same tyre and brand or are you planning to swap brands?
Let us know.

lol          who voted for the Dunlop Shyte?

Just call me king budget! my parents used to force me to wear a set of dunlops when i was at school, so i guess its gone full circle!!
as if i really would
-
Continental Contisport any day for me, had eagle f1's good but i think that the Contisport stick alot better in the wet
-
Am currently on Eagle F1's after Contis and then Bridgestones and the F1's are far better in both wet and dry imo. So I'll be considering the new F1 Assymetrics next but also the Vredesteins. EVO mag did a tyre test in current issue - All on a Mk5 GTI.
-
Lucky old me !!!! My Ed 30 came with Dunlops...... Funny the traction control light has an intermittent fault - its always on in when it rains ?
Seriously I have nothing else to compare them to on this car - so blissfully ignorant for the next 10K
-
My Conti's are great...no complaints from me and I will be sticking with them next time
-
Will prob stick with the Contis tbh, no probs so far and going around Combe they stuck like **** to a shovel.
Only reason I would swap would be if there was an offer on somewhere, maybe we should post links to cheap tyres?? :undecided:
-
how do you find your contis are wearing paulm007? Taking into consideration your track day of course.. only my fronts will need to be changed at around 9k judging by how much they have worn already, I wouldn't consider myself to be to hard on them!
Want to go for the Mich PS2 next - they were fantastic on my old R!!

Well they can't have forced you to wear a pair of Michelins, Contis or Pirellis to school - or could they

I know what you are saying... I had Contis on my 06 GTI and they were superb... I remember encountering a roundabout on the A14 once and doing 70 without realising - I only looked at the speedo when I was on the roundabout as it felt too fast  I really thought the car could roll over at worse and skid a long way at best, but they kept the car firmly planted without a whimper! Brilliant tyres. They did start to wear quite quickly though and I had to swap the fronts with the rears after 11k miles. Can't remember what I had on my R32 - think they may well have been Contis too, but whatever they were, they were good - the 4WD helped too  My first Edition 30 had Dunlops and they were SHYTE SHYTE SHYTE... Can't emphasis that enough. The car was skidding around as if on a bl00dy icerink from the word go - and I didn't even push it past 3k rpm for the first 1000km  I thought it couldn't handle the 230bhp and posted a comment to that effect... but no, it was the crappy Dunlops. I have Michelin Pilots now and they are excellent. I voted for Eagle F1s but I might just go for the Contis next time.

Oh dear... exactly what I experienced with my Ed30 and Dunlops. Your ESP is fine - as I'm sure you know... its the Duncraps that are the problem.

Mine is wearing about the same too 9-10k and I will be on baldies....errr....my tyres that is

Is it only the imports that come shod in Sport Maxx ?

I'm happy with the Conti 2s so far grip in both the dry and wet has been good. Emergency braking performance has been exellent (its saved the lives of quite a few suicidal Pheasants on the Yorkshire country lanes  )
They are a little noisy though
After 5800 miles they are half worn. I will probably go for the Conti 3s. But the F1s sound tempting.
Anyone planning to rotate their tyres? I thnk it was TT or RedRobin who said that they do it on their cars.

I will swap the Shytemax in a few thousand miles. Last thing I want is 2 worn ones meaning I need to buy more of the horrible things. F1 Asymetrics for me at the soonest possible.

....Strictly only in axle pairs. As fronts wear quicker they get swopped with the rears such that wear remains fairly even until time for a complete new set.

No takers for the Vredstien's then?

In the tests they performed well. but they look like cheap remoulds from a market stall.

....They didn't perform like "cheap remoulds from a market stall" when I saw them being demonstrated on the circuit at GTI Inters!
I'll wait for further reports but they are a serious contender imo.

Pirelli p-zero nero for me. Couldnt believe the improvement from the Conti 3s that were on it when i bought it so i shall be sticking with those (excuse the pun!)
WORTH EVERY PENNY FOR ME!

They wont last more than about 40 miles but they do grip well
-
Definitely with Falken 452's
On every forum I visit people can't compliment them enough
And they are VERY cheap compared to some of the other tyres mentioned whilst providing similar performance

-
As long as they do grip im happy.
Although everytime the front wheels lose traction i feel my walley getting lighter in my pocket ha ha!
-
i have an obsession on watching the fuel needle drop b4 my very eyes after stretching my right foot, and then feeling better when i drive downhill and watching the needle raise and not feeling so bad!

I have never heard of these tyres before but can are they really that good? How are they grip and miles lasting wise? I assume these:
http://www.falkentyres.co.uk/product.asp?P_ID=308&strPageHistory=search&strKeywords=225/40&numPageStartPosition=1&strSearchCriteria=all&PT_ID=all
will be ok for my MK5 R32? (225/40 R18 standard on the zolders). I assume the above link for the 225/40/18 92Y FK452 are fine as the Y rating is higher than R? Many thanks for the help in advance. I was going to go for continentals as a replacement but considering checking these out now if you think they are worth it?
-
In all honesty couldn't tell you how they would be on the R32, but on the beemer forum all they get is praise
A friend of mine has just put these on his M3 and says it handles amazing...
Again I know of alot of people using these on 330Ds etc so I assume they would work just as well on a GTI/R32
Incredible value for money! :)

Vredestein Ultrac Sessanta will be the next boots I'm going to try, Conti's are good but apparently the Ultrac have less road noise and deal with the wet weather a bit better.
Also better on price for all the Dunlop cheapskates.
-
Anyone tried the Vredstein? It seemed to be a good all-rounder, good steering feel.
-
Can't believe I spelt contact wrong........
Will have to slow down when typing..........

Think I'll be doing this to mine when there's no tread

Failing that the michy pilots look good

Hi All,
First post  Has anyone considered Avon ZZR's / ZZ3's. ZZR's apparently super sticky dry use only advised.

http://www.avon-tyres.co.uk/?page=tyres&method=detail1&tid=2
I don't work for Avon and I'm more than happy with my current Conti's

Ok I was rushing, put the kids to bed, walk the dog (its not allowed in the golf ), blah blah blah
-
Anyone seen the tyre test results in this weeks Autocar?
-
Yes,
The Intercontinentals came 1st
Michellinns port scompact 2 came 2nd
Kumars at 42
Abridgedstones 3rd
And last Dinlups
-
or in the version I read on the train this morning
1st : Goodyear Eagle F1
2nd : Michelin Pilot Sport
3rd : Continental Contisport Contact 3
4th : Bridgestone Potenza RE 050A
5th : Pirelli PZero Rosso
another (albeit slim) victory for the F1 hurray
Mich Pilot Sport got the nod if absolute dry grip is your bag.
and of course we all know it doesnt rain in the UK
watch F1 sales soar.....
Enjoy

My old GTi had Sport Maxx crappy and I can vouch for the complete lack of grip. The ED30 has Michelin Sports which seem to be better with less understeer and less road noise so it's Michelin for me. I don't care if they blow up on F1 cars.
-
cheapest new Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 i found are £450 for 4, is that good??
-
I think that sounds about right, I had two fitted to my old R, and they were £120 each fitted IIRC.
-
The R32 long term test car in Evo has had the Goodyears fitted. He does not seem happy so far.

You're right and he's comparing them to Conti 2's, not 3's.
He reckoned that scrubbing them in may help but he's travelled a decent enough distance for them to well scrubbed already.
Rogue set?
-
I would defo go with the Mitchellin PS2's!! had them on the old car and they were just brilliant. Great for both wet n dry. Current Sport maxx are quite crap to be honest. Would recommend them for anyone living in Manchester.. apart from that dont bother. Screamm like a sl*t on sundays when pushed  (not that i would know what that sounds like)
-
i managed to bag 4 eagle f1s at £380 including installation
£95 a tyre! Bargain
