yeh these will be ok, you wont get the full potential from the speaker without an amp but they will sound fine...just dnt forget to bed the speakers in for a couple of weeks!

I would be careful - they list both the 5010cs and 6010cs as having silk dome tweeters.  The last pair I bought came with aluminium dome tweeters which, if positioned incorrectly would take the enamel off of your teeth.  If you're going to use stock locations, you don't have much scope to play around if they don't sound nice.

If you are running from a headunit only, I'd be tempted by some of the lower end alpine comps.  Also, you don't need to do anything specific to "bed in" speakers, they just loosen up and relax with a few hours use.

Maybe something from this page?  Although there is no substitute for listening before you buy.

few hours is a bit of an understatement.. basically dnt crank the bass up for a while, it'll get better over time..

listen before you buy is next to impossible! go to halfords and listen, but listen to what? read reviews if you serious, but to be honest for £35..dnt expect anything head turning..

try vibe slick 50s...around £40-45 and once loosened up they rule..my mate heard the bass from inside his house and i only have two 5"ers! no sub, jst 2 speakers!

Think of speakers as shoes - an no, I'm not going mad!

You could buy a pair of shoes without trying them on, but how would you know if they are to your taste?  Same with speakers - It is difficult to test speakers, even if you can hear some in a shop, they may sound different in your car, but it's a start.  Comparing a few sets of speakers playing from the same source will at least give you a chance of choosing something you like.

Same goes for "running them in" - new shoes feel strange to start with, but soon relax with use.  You don't need to run speakers in gently - you don't need to run them in at all - just use them.

sorry but "just using them" statement does not apply for speakers in anyway shape or form... i know soooo many noobs who buy speakers, crank them up with loadsa bass and within a couple of weeks, there're shagged !!

TRUST ME, go easy on them for a while, you'll notice that you'll need to adjust the bass down after a while..

i would never ever run my speakers to the max, dont matter if you run them in or not, if you over power them they will f**k up alot quicker anyway..

in my mk 3 iv kept the system to a simple set up unlike my other car, so basically iv got Focal 2 ways up front in the doors, these are very expensive but sound awesome, deffo my fave speaker brand... kept standard tweets up front and all standard speakers in the back, these are running direct form my Alpine CDA 9853 which is a monster of a HU, time correction, EQ, Crossovers etc, can tweek your life away to get the exact sound from the speakers that the manufactures of the speakers reccomend

in the boot iv got a 10" Rockford Fosgate Punch XLC Sub in sealed box powered by a pheonix Gold QX 2200 Amp

Sounds wicked, just right...and all thats needed really..

In that case the "noobs" you refer to probably don't know how to set up gains, filters or crossovers properly.  Sending too much low frequency to any speaker not specifically designed to reproduce it will kill it regardless of weather it's new or not.  The only part of the speaker which actually alters with use is the cone suspension.  Most dead speakers have burnt/melted voice coils.

If you're driving a speaker too hard, it should be fairly obvious from the noises it makes, if you continue to push it then it's your own fault if it dies.  My old infinitys could be turned up to the point where I couldn't take it for too long, but then they were high passed at 80hz, so they were unlikely to receive any death-blows.

better to be safe then sorry thats i can say..everyone, well hopefully everyone, knows that speakers dont produce good bass when you first get em which tends to make ppl turn the bass up on their eq which they shudnt imo. anyways i think mapped gets it now lol

a nice set of comps ( and an amp?)

if you don't use an amp you may end up with worse performance than you were getting with your stock speakers.
