Title: took my golf for a service
Post by: vin1.8t on 09 May 2007, 18:00
today i took my golf for a 40000 service iv only just got the car, it had full history, full mot. but for my own peace of mind i thought id get it looked over
i booked it in to the vw dealer in my area ( only 2 to choose from)
after 2 and a bit hours of sitting and waiting thay came up with the bad news
item                    hours              labour              part cost               total
anti freeze             .50                34.00               11.14                   45.14
heated mirrors x2    .30                20.40               57.81                   78.21
rear washer           .70                47.60                4.20                    51.80
tie rods               2.10              142.30             138.68                   281.48
cntr silencer          .70                47.60               78.79                  126.39
axle bushes          4.00              272.00               36.60                  308.60
fr disk & pads        1.30              88.40               120.50                  208.90
rr disk & pads        1.30              88.40                 72.20                  160.60

so you can imagine just how i felt. i told them thanks but no as the car was under warrenty
i headed back to where i got it from steam comeing out my ears.
by the time i got there i was quite carm and ready for whot ever thay had to say why thay couldnt do it as it wasnt covered.
the fella looked a bit shocked as i told him so he wanted to see the car.
he looked at me and said
"you dont have heated mirrors"
he tryed the rear washer . you can hear the motor but no water comes out . he looked around a puddle at the front " your pipes come off"
he then looked at the wheels "the disks are a bit worn but look fine and there brand new pads"
the other items he said he couldnt look at with out getting the car up.
we arranged a day to get it in but told me all the other things would of failed a mot and looked puzzled as the mot was only done 3weeks ago

so was the vw garage trying to get a extra £1100 plus the vat out of me or has the car started to fall apart after 3 weeks

i know whot 1 i think it is
any one know of a good place to get a mk4 1.8t serviced around the northamptonshire cambs beds area?

they must be having some sort of joke at the VW dealership, they must be trying to rip you off!!

just whot i was thinking bob.
now if thay had just said you need something small doing for £100 i would of ended up saying ok you better do it and then next time i took it fr a service thay could of got a bit more out of me.
but know thay have lost it all no more of my money will go into there till

to have that much wrong with it after such a short period of time after buying it, either they are trying to have you on or someone has tampered with the car before sale  but i would take it somewhere else and get a third opinion and see what the general result is

That is absolutely fookin re-d1ck-u-larse ! They aint called stealers for nothing. I'd now take it back to the VW and say that a) I aint got heated mirrors and b) I don't need a new washer as the pipe had simply come off and surely a dealerships mechanics should have seen that, I'd then ask them to explain themselves as it's just passed it's MOT, there's no problem with the pads and put them on the spot, I'd then say I'm not happy about this as it's tantamount (sp?) to stealing and I'm going to take this further and speak to VW's head office.

That's appauling. If it was me i'd be writing to the dealer principle.

300 for bushes? almost an hour to pop a washer pipe back on.. and not noticing you don't actually have heated mirrors.. well.. speaks for itself.

i might just send vw head office a letter.
i allways think that you pay a bit more to go to a dealer but if you want your car looked after by people who know whot there doing its worth it.

I took my first MK2 to the local dealer and although they were realy nice and willing to help they were fooking useless when it came to fixing the problem

After your first post in this thread I'm hoping you're being sarcastic here because from your recent experience there's absolutely no evidence of this and it's totally to the contrary.

some are okay.. my local parts dept. are very good (no comment on the service dept. though)... problem is vw  'technicians' are rarely vw enthusiasts... if you find one that is you're on a winner.
Title: Re: took my golf for a service
Post by: gibby on 09 May 2007, 19:54
Aye, parts guys are sound at my VW stealers too, but I can't comment on the technicians as my VWs have all been old so no warranty to keep up with etc so I've always just gone to a "normal" garage.

i'd complain to the stealers and VW UK.  Stop them ripping off other people!!

If you don't mind a bit of a day out to get it looked at, I can thoroughly reccomend JCB Skoda in Basildon, Essex for servicing/repairs

I would never leave any car of mine with the local stealership

When i here stories like this it just gets me so worked up. It's so annoying that these companies get away with things like this, especially a VW "dealer". Complete joke.

My motor is due for an MOT in the next few weeks and I just have no confidence in anyone anymore.

While we are on here anyone know a good place to get MOT'ed in the South London / South East area?

I had the blue warm up temp light permanently on on my 1.6 new bug...took it to the stealers who charged me £135 to look at it and tell me that it was an ecu problem and would cost £1200 for the ecu and £300 to fit and set it up so £1500 plus vat.
Took it to Storm Developements where Andy put the VAG-com onto it and found that one of the temp sensors was reading well below the actual temp hence the avaerage temp being down from all sensors and the blue light being on. £40 later all was solved.

Stealershave nice showrooms and mechanics bays....got to pay for it somehow.

If it's any concellation my mate took his Celica to the Toyota garage and was quoted £700 for needing new pads and discs all round. Cost him £200 for all the original bits and I fitted them in 1 1/2 hours on my driveway.....

Good to see Storm are good for something then Simon!

(even though their Rolling Road is slightly optomistic!)

had a reply today from vw head office.
have a guess what thay said the guy that done the service was right i did need all the work doing and the pads must of worn away in 3 weeks.
but the biggest shock of all was the heated mirrors ive got them so vw are telling me. erm but shouldnt i have a button or something to turn them on???????
total waist of time
if anyone has had any dealing with AUTOHAUS OF KETTERING hope you get better service than me
