i've kinda been wanting one for years but its a lot of cash to spend on something which i'm not 100% sure i want. mind you it will always have a high re-sale value! i'd have to have a de-badged one with a grill spoiler though......

Gibby, car looks fantastic mate.

Wasn't sure about the wheels but they look great now I've seen them on.

What times did you manage?

Thanks Nick, I was wondering if you'd approve. I'm loving the wheels but I'm sick of having to clean the brake dust off them every other day ! As for 1/4 mile times, I had a very indifferent day, missed a couple of gear changes so that cost me dear on a couple of runs, but the ones that I did ok with were consistent, best was 15.77 but also did a 15.79 & 15.83. What would you have expected ? I was looking for a 15.5ish time so I wasn't far off. I don't think the freaky hot weather helped too much.

Also, I don't think that the reaction times contribute for these runs and I'll explain why, I raced a VR6 and I set off first, had a reaction time of .47 to their 1.09, I crossed the finish line first and I got a time of 15.79 but they got 15.62. Also, on my last run, I got my best reaction time of .35, I had good gear changes and thought it was my best run, but it ended up being the run of 15.83.

As I got three runs of around the same time I'm thinking that unless it's slightly cooler then I'm not going to get much better than that although I still think there's a low 15 in there somewhere.

You would be amazed at the difference a hot day makes to the power.

Having driven in hot and cold conditions you probably realised that anyway.

Times are pretty good, if you get the flowed charger reconditioned and polish up your gear changing you should see low 15's or on a good day high 14's!

Wowser, those pics are wicked, I remember the guy taking the pic of the back end when I was waiting on the strip, I even held the queue up for a few moments while he took the shot.

My old clipper would have given your clip a run for its money I miss it big time summer car for sure mate!

I wanted to tinker with the Rallye but she is so stock and took alot of work to get it back to the way she should have been. I wanted a 2.ltr bore, wosnier pistons, lysholm charger to boot, but I might just settle for Lysholm to give it a boost.
I can always change her back!

ha ha. I actually got into the wrong side to move my car on Sunday at GTI festival, much to the amusement of joe, Lewy, jv and everyone else around !  :embarassed:

I looked at you, looked at Joe and said, "whats Gibby doing?" he said "moving it", I said "watch, watch!" - he did and we laughed, lots!

Yep the charger in the box is the flowed one, whatever you do don't fit it without having it fully checked over first though.

It would probably need a good service anyway but it will give you more boost if it is ok.

Nice one Nick. I wouldn't put it on without a full service anyway. Is the charger on now a stage 4 ?

Whereabouts on the A14 Dinx??? The plate on my mates VR6 is K** MAH, its a grey colour.
If it was him I'd have been somewhere in close proximity in my car and another mate in his mk3.

Is that the mate I folowed home from Skeggie? When I overtook 4 cars and a lorry keeping up wih him?

Not the car that Dinx was referring to but the other car I was with yes. We'll call it the deathwish manouvre shall we???

Errrrrrr, I've no problem with a lady beating me on the santa pod strip, at the end of the day she did a 15.62 and I didn't beat that time all day and knowing what you lot drive (she was in a VR6 by the way) I don't think there are many on here that would actually have beaten her, so up yours to be honest.
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 09:53
Nah that was the one on the way to Skeggie, when I was following you! When I decided late to overtake some people carrier after you, with that huge blue lorry coming towards me! :smug:
(Golf Stu's missus called me mad)

I was just thing if it was the same Vr6 then that was blue with grey/silver graphics.

So you are quite happy for a Vr6 to thrash your Rallye?
Sounds like my 16v could beat it then! :smug:

Yeah he was there aswell on the A14 last sun, thankfully the graphics have now gone. He only fitted them initially to cover up soem scratches but then removed them and had the rear resprayed.

15.62 to 15.79 is hardly being "thrashed" is it !

A mk3 16v would struggle to break the 16sec barrier so you wouldn't beat my time and I reckon I've a low 15 in there somewhere. But don't take my word for it, why not give it a run and see for yourself, proof of the pudding and all that. You'll be there for Bugjam so prove me wrong then. :smug:
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 10:17
That sounds like a challenge!

I could beat you easily coz you cant get second gear! :smug:

Mind you - you have a weight advantage!
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: gibby on 23 April 2007, 10:46
I doubt I'll race you at Bugjam as I'll be in my camper. But yup, second gear in that can be quite tricky too, especially going down from third. I don't have to race against you to see if you get the better time. My best was 15.77 so see if you can beat that in yours. :smug:
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 12:43
Hmmmmm now its not like me to not take up a challenge but in this case i think I will be sensible for a change!

By then i will have spent a fair bit of dosh on the boat and do I really want to thrash it down the strip and risk bouncing it off their barriers? nah i'll chicken out!
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: gibby on 23 April 2007, 13:09
Excuses, excuses which basically means, you don't think you'd spank my time as first boasted ! ......and if the blonde in the VR6 raced you she'd beat you too. I think you'd be hard pushed to beat my cab to be honest and I did that in a best of 17.2.

Chick, chick, chick, chick chicken, lay a little egg for me ! :

would rather kill my car on a track than have some blind old dear in a nissan almera write it off tbh.. paranoia never got anyone anywhere
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 13:39
Ah but with my superior driving skills and ABS brakes I will never kill a car on the road!
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: topher on 23 April 2007, 13:41
yet on a completely straight 1/4 mile run you're worried you might smack into the concrete sidewalls.. even a mk3 can handle driving in a straight line
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 13:43
No i'd be more worried that I would break something on the car/drop oil or whatever causing a loss of control then smack it into the barrier!

'ere Gib.. yer right. Len has no balls

Hmmm, I know. :smug: The ones he does have keep getting into his eyes though.

On one of my runs last week I even had to avoid a piece of exhaust on the track ! Vaughn said to me "Something's fallen off your car" at which point I sh@t myself until I realised that I saw the offending item in front of me rather than in the mirror so it deffo wasn't mine. Phew !

Len you big scaredy cat ! You have "superior" driving skills and ABS but you're not able to keep it straight for 1/4 of a mile !
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 23 April 2007, 15:37
I'm a scardy cat as well as havin no balls then!

See with my luck I would have nicked that piece of exhaust and either burst a tyre or it would have cut my fuel line or some other disaster!
Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Neaty on 23 April 2007, 15:39
but surely with said superior driving skills you would be able to control the car in such a predicament

sorry i am just jumping on the bandwagon len

Title: Re: spring festival. a big thanks
Post by: Len on 24 April 2007, 09:13
This is an illustration of my luck.
Went back to car in garage after a short shopping trip and pool of water!
Bad coolant leak.
Turns out said leak is in a plastic section of pipe right under the inlet manifold, which necessatates removing the complete manifold to get off!
Couldnt be in a hose that easy to get off, oh no!
With dodgy hex head bolts that needed "work" to get them off, it took two and a half hours!

Your alright fella I know, I wanted to go down ther otherside thinking it flew off my lane and on yours LOL!
Well I was down on power in third and now I know why The ISV was blocked so lost boost release and bad mixture. There was also a pipe lose on the induction side losing boost. She flies now!
