Hi there,
Just ordered my ED30 Decided to sell my current Gti privatly as stealers were ripping me off with part ex.
Thought I was doing well when I got one dealer to give me a £250 discount and £199 supagaurd free (ordering anyway).
I then managed to get a discount of £980 (4.5%)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Surely this is a forum record?
Anyone else have any luck getting discounts?
-
£980!!!!! What?! How on EARTH did you pull that off? And who's your dealer?
-
Was just away to ask the same question - which dealer is that?!
Mine is reluctant to give anything off as its such a desirable car - I think I got about £350 off, but nothing is set in stone yet.
I also have NTI.
What options did you take. I think the more extras you take, the more they can discount?
-
I didnt get a discount as such, as I am buying mine on PCP but I think I got a decent enough deal.
Main dealer quoted me £2500 deposit, £410 a month and final payment of £8000 on a standard GTI (with 18 monzas)
And £500 a month on a ED30.
In the end got a 3dr ED30 in black pearl, only extra is armrest but got it via CarFile.net for £350 a month (saving £150 on the main dealer quote)
Just got to wait until end of April for it to turn up!
:)
-
i got 2% off mine, shes here sometime next week yipeee....roll on next week

The company is called New-car-discount.com
They will give you a £982 discount regardless of what spec you order.
The cars come from a dealer in Manchester and are full UK cars. One of the 1500.
You can do the usual dealer option like cruise control/supaguard etc. as normal.
Delivery time quoted 8-10 weeks.
Why go to a dealer and get ripped off?
-
Are these imports, or UK cars?
If they're UK cars it might be worth me having a look!
That'd pay for my xenons and front arm rest!

Looks genuine enough! I wonder how many they can get their hands on! :smug:

Hi DJ,
Congrats on your order. I have been looking at these people for my order, are you happy with
the service you have received so far? I think if you search on these forums you will find a few
stories about slow deleveries but this seems to be when the MkV first came out so is probably
par for the course.
Do you know what dealer the car is coming from as I'm pretty local to Manchester so it might
be worth me trying to go direct to the dealer.
Did you just go for standard spec or did you get any nice extras?
Cheers
Paul

You may find that these are pre-registered, which is fine and still new, just makes you the second owner. I was looking for ages (for other vehicles) and this was the best way to get money off. A few companies work on "Fleet" discount.
All I would say is double check, and if you're not bothered save a grand!
-
Ordered my Edition 30 (Candy White, 3 dr DSG, Xenons, Sunroof), last week and had to pay full list price, could have got a bit off if I would compromise with a stock red most dealers seem to be demonstrating.
Since they could not offer discount and after hard negotiations with at least 4 dealers ringing me at 10 min intervals I managed an extra £1,000 for my trade in (04 BMW cab).
Dealer reckons it will be around 10 to 12 weeks. (I can't wait !)
Biggest saving I made was not paying over £1,800 for the sat nav as an option and picking up a new unit for £420 off ebay.
Got the sat nav now just need the GTI, can't wait.
What do you reckon on the colour? I was like a yoyo between grey and candy white, There was only 1 choice I could make in the end !
-
not bad!
as may have said, white looks good!
-
You may find that these are pre-registered, which is fine and still new, just makes you the second owner.
If they are pre-registered, then they are NOT new.
This makes a crucial difference with insurance. The vast majority of full-comp policies offer a new-for-old within the first 12 months - but only if you are the original owner! A little more detail: if your car is written off, or stolen and not recovered, at any time during the first 12 months, it will automatically be replaced with an identical spec brand new car, even if the car is 364 days old! This would be a considerable difference from the "market value"!
Pre-reg cars may be OK for bog-standard or run of the mill cars, like say Corsa/Fiesta/Polo/Focus/Astra/Moandeo/Vectra, etc - but on high value, highly desireble (especially limited editions) cars, then pre-reg is a high risk strategy!
All I would say is double check, and if you're not bothered save a grand!
Yes, but that inital £1k saving will also be diluted somewhat when it comes to resale, as the number of owners increases, the value takes a noticeable hit!
-
as you said depends on the car. Originally I was lookinf for a seven seater and could save 3 - 4 K on a pre reg S-max. However I also discovered companies who via Fleet purchasing could get you a brand new car for the same if not with more discount. Some people would rather take the risk and save up front, that's their choice. Being fortunate enough to buy the car outright, I wanted a UK car where I was the first to drive and own the vehicle. This will probably be the one and only new car I will buy and so I wanted it to be a vehicle I could enjoy to own and drive. For others, maybe an import is the way to go. Personally I wasn't interested in xenons, sat nav, folding mirrors, sunroof, cuddly toy, I wanted a GTI with performance and build quality and was MINE!!!
-
The cars are brand new and unregistered. All Uk cars. I think they just treat the car as any other and coz they sell in bulk they dont seem to distinguish between them.
The dealer is in the Manchester area. Not sure where but the New Car Discounts head office is on Manchester and you can pick up the car there or get it delivered anywhere in the UK for £116.
I have gone for
3 door Candy White
Lux pack 1
Ipod Prep
Highline
Retro cruise and supaguard.

was going to order a import 5dr gti with xenon,leather,parking,18",multi steering wheel and ipod for £21015, however i was scanning autotrader and I can get a UK (? pre-reg) 5 dr edition 30 metallic black, xenons, parking, multisteering wheel, ipod console and tinted rears for £22995. is this worth the extra 2k?

Yes. Should hold residuals better than the standard GTI.... plus extra power, different wheels, exclusivity, etc etc.
-
.....we wait for the comments NOT to buy an Ed30 now
examples will probably include
1) it's only 30 bhp more
2) it looks the same.....
3) the wheels don't look very good
4) if you spec a gti you get more.......
Oh I can't wait
I love my Ed 30, check it out http://www.mvra.com/ed30

I've just ordered the following from they same people, let me know how your order
is progressing and if you have any problems:
3 door Silver DSG
Ipod Prep
Highline
I'll probably go for Retro cruise. I think New Car Discounts offer Diamondbrite, how does this
compare with supaguard? May also look at adding OEM Sat Nat.
-
Yes, will do.
Seems easy so far but time will tell.
Did they give you 10 weeks delivery as well?
-
come on simonet you didnt finish your list:
5. doesnt handle its 230hp as well as the standard GTi (see any dealer or magazine review)
6. 4 star car rating as to apposed to 5 star GTi :smug:
7. resales the same value, depending once again on what you add on to it for extras
8. higher insurance costs
9. Less mpg
10. 2 grand more for little extra thrills
11. Only worth considering if you dont Own a good spec GTi already.
there you go, as you wanted simonet, anything else???
-
They have always said 8 and I didn't challenge them, but I did think this date was optimistic.
My Order says estimated 8th May but time will tell.
-
> Did they give you 10 weeks delivery as well?
They are still claiming 8 weeks, haven't got a build date yet, any update on your order?
-
Not yet
-
What date did you place you order, and is it a DSG?
My online status has been updated to waiting for build date.
Drop me a PM and we can compare notes.
-
Ordered mine week 3 2007 and is due for pick-up middle of week 13, so 10 weeks from order to delivery for me (ED 30 with DSG).
-
I then managed to get a discount of £980 (4.5%)!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It looks like new car discount have cut the amount of discount on the Edition 30 now, the
model I ordered is now about £300 more so it looks like I ordered at the right time. Lets
just hope they do delivery in the 8-10 week time scale.
-
Well, I got an 8.523% discount on my Ed. 30.
The final price is (on average, depending on exchange rate) : 19500 GBP.
-
Bugg3r me
You win!
