Cheers man
Bare in mind im 18 and only have 1 years ncb (well with have in feb when I sell the spaxo) so a GTI is out of question, need something under a group 10 really! A saxo VTR is a group 7 and has around the same power as a 1.8 soooo
I know what you mean about the French nightmares.. not really the bets in a crash!
And thanks Len405 its been my username on www.saxperience.com for a year or so and 3k + posts so I figured why change? ;)
golfdan hmmm lol

hello and welcome
I got my first GTI when i was 18, was on my parents insurance though but worth it. That was for a Mark 2 16v.
You should be ok with a years no claims, i havnt got any at the moment which is a pain when it comes to insuring cars

Arrow.

no seriously i say this now and to any new driver/young driver... dont pay over the odds for modded underpowered shat cars, pay the extra on the insurance get a cheaper hot hatch and go for it , honestly shop around and youll see what i mean...
when i was 17 in 1992 i had a c reg 85 xr3i in white done up as a rs turbo custom, car cost me a grand and insurance was £1400 , but at the time for a 7 year old car that looked like something damn fast and wasnt like some of the 950 fiestas and stuff my mates were driving it was great... i had 16v ashtray gte 's and alsorts mate,
so do it..
-
welcome buddy
if you can get a golf you wont regret it the quality is soooo much better than a saxo i know i have had one
what about getting a diesel and remaping it insurance will be cheap and it will be pretty fast
i have always had pretty fast cars i had nova sr's when i was 17-18 and when i was 19 i got a 205 gti

welcome to the forum hun

Hey Slick#13 whats an arrow?
And back to kniteriders comment, thanks for getting back to me :)
Im not really into modding cars the only thing modded about my saxo is the lowerd suspension, but it was like that when I got it :embarassed:
I only have about £1500 to play with when looking for a golf and dont want to be paying more than £100 in insurance witch is what a 1.8 will be
Im not overly fussed on speed, just looking for something a bit nippyer than a 1.1 haha and something thats built well, relaible and looks mean! (mk3 golfs)
But I will look into a cheaper GTI maybe a mk2?
Thanks again for your advice, your a freindly bunch here :)
-
you should definately be able to get get a Mark 2 GTI 8v within that budget. When are you 19?
-
In october, but by then I will be at uni...
I just want something fast for the summer! Im looking at mk 2's now they are growing on me!! I love the red ones
But insurance at £100 a month.. dont think so somehow
-
Say arrow like a china man would
welcome to the site mate , old school rules , always has always will
mk1 or 2s the way to go have a look into classic car insurance

Are you serious? 100 quid for an 18 year old male to insure a 1.8 mk3 golf? Not on your own, I can assure u it will be more than that! at 20 with 2years no claims, a clean liscense and in guernsey (one of the lowest insurance areas of the UK) it costs me £380
My first car was a 1.1 saxo. The lowered suspension is a bonus, trust me. Standard ride was enough to make experienced sailors sea sick!
If you can find a company who will insure you on a mk2 8valve gti Id say thats the best way to go. Budget for the extra cost with insurance and spend less on the car for an ultimate old skool arse kicker! Show all your buddies what utter crap their french pieces of wank really are!

Welcome to the forum
Phil - he said £100 a month...so £1200 a year, which is probably right.
I would listen to people and go for a mk2 if you want something "nippy". Get an 8v GTI and enjoy a car with good build quality rather than one of them over-rated poorly built VTR's

Did i read this wrong then?
-
Your post read like you thought he was expecting to pay £100 a year on insurance...I don't know, it's still early
-
Haha about £100 a month! Not a year ;)
It will cost £1000 a year for the 1.8
Im looking into the 8v GTI's
Want something thats rtelaible though and not breaking down and needing repairs!
-
hardcor3(jay) told me of a a.8 mk3 driver that sounded like the kinda thing u would do well with. Its in the lincs area (dont know if thats any good for ya) but has full vwsh. low mileage and was less than a grand. Send him a pm.
A mk2 8valve would be a wicked car, look quality, go well etc but perhaps bein a little newer a mk3(on paper)should be the more reliable!?! Mine has been quality over the 20 months iv owned it *touches everything wooden in sight

ah, i was just going to recommend an insurance company to you but you have to be 19. try www.moneysupermarket.com or www.confused.com to compare quotes. I find money supermarket to be better to be honest
-
i thought a saxo vtr was a group 8?
i've just bought a 1.8 mk2 gti 8v......... on direct line . good ole dads insurance i can collect no claims for £400 a year  which i think is 40 quid a month
so worth it
