Hey ... been looking through threads on here, cant find much info on this. Is there any cheap mods I can do to the engine to get a real roaring sound.
I wanna put a Twin Weber Carb on it ... but due to my limited knowledge I have no clue on what version to get. Version mean what sort of model or type. Do I need like an inlet manifold aswell??? Can I fit a K & N Bolt on filter on top of this, if so ... what model do I need.
Also, what would be better, a panel filter or bolt on ... to get a bigger roaring sound .... not worried too much on performance ... as long as I get the roar! hahah along with good fuel economy ....
Cheers in advance!

The roar i think you want is induction noise so your best bet is a bolt on 'cone' filter.
It should be noted that;
1. Your fuel economy will suffer a little. (mainly due to you putting your foot fully down more often to get the sound.)
2. Your performance MAY suffer due to hot engine bay air getting into the intake.
3. Slow moving cars with loud induction kits are a bit chav.
And yes this from a man with both a K&N 57i and 17's......

So what about those rich people that fork out sh!t loads on scoobys to get that roar ... are they chavs too???
-
Scoobys are not slow moving......
-
pannel filter, drilled airbox, full stainless exhaust. all should make a difference
-
Scoobys roar like f**k if they move slow .... thats what I ment.
Erm .... in my Max Power Haynes Manual it says dont drill the air box unless you have an injection engine ... I have a carb ....

Say no more

Ah i meant cars with small engines.... Scoobys/Skylines sound cool but have over 200bhp to play with, sub 2L engines with nothing special done to them sound like they're trying too hard imo.
-
Ahhh, I've decided just to put a panel filter on to see how I go with that, I've already got a full stainless steel exhaust ...... What about this Twin Weber carb .... what type do I need to put in?
-
People don't spend loads on making scoobies roar, it's the configuration of the engine that does that, as they are a flat four, not a generic 4 pot.

Boxer engine. Sounds so good!

No mate not a Boxster, a 'Boxer' engine layout.

Same design is used in Aircooled Vdubs

Cheers han! .... err .... sorry to be a spoilt sport ... can we get back on topic ... please ..... anyone help me on advice for a twin weber carb???
-
Forget it, just get the pierburg set up correctly. Will get better economy, more response, and won't keep going wrong.
-
I'd get a K&N Bolt on filter and set up the Peirbourg properly....
It won't 'Roar' as such but it will sound better. May be a b!tch to start in the cold due to you losing the hot air feed.
-
You mean I would loose the hot air feed from the bolt on over the panel filter?
-
Don't get an induction cone as they are wank. All they do is suck hot air in from the engine and slow the engine down.

For once i agree with Mr.Slick on this one.
On the carb engines the airbox sits behind the engine, so a bolt on induction kit will just suck in hot air, this probably will affect performance.
The best thing to do is put a k&n panel in it, and run a pipe to the grill to get a decent air intake.
BTW induction kit won't really affect cold starts, the warm air hose is not for cold starting, the system opens when the inlet air temp is below a certain level, so this is for when the car is running to prevent carb icing.
-
Thanks for your help man!
So whats the best way to set up the pierburg carb???
-
Personally i'd take it to your local garage.... They will do a exhaust gas test on it etc.
I once messed around with a SU carb... not worth it.
It shouldnt cost too much.
