That is all :nerd:
-
So do I, but surely ya could give us some reasons?
-
'Gets ready to run and hide'
Errr because they are not MK2's or 1's :smug:
-
dont hate
appreciate
-
I like the amount of people who dont like them! all the golf purists who think it was tthe ruination of the brand. For me it was the one I grew up with and I always wanted a black 3 door mk3, voila! success!
-
^ Yeah.... what he said :)
^

-
Being totally honest I prefer the Mk 2 shape!
But as I have said before (sorry to be boring!) as ya cant get a Mk 2 with ABS and air-con, then I have got the next best thing!
And if I end up doing what's in my head atm then mine will look better than any Mk 2!
:smug:
-
Always been into mk3's. I too grew up with them. Born in 1983, and remember my dad having a mk2 but always rememeber 1991 when the mk3 first came out (lived in france at the time near the german border).
Always, always wanted one, and I've never found a better looking car yet. One comes close and that's the Audi A3..
Now the proud owner of a mk3 and I never ever get sick of looking at it. Fantastic car which looks fantastic with very little effort
-
Had mine for over 18 months and smile every time I get init!
Now looking to mod it slightly but frustated as my funds do not meet my ideas!
But I reckon the next thing will be lowering it for better looks and performance.
Then de badge and smooth of the tail gate (you may see my thread in parts wanted! I was so close to getting a tailgate last week to work on I could taste it!)
Then new alloys.
-
I like my mk3.
I'd like to get some beige / cream leather in there when I can afford it.
-
But as I have said before (sorry to be boring!) as ya cant get a Mk 2 with ABS and air-con
yes you can! no reason not to get one now then eh ?
-
I said that about 2 years ago so why aint ya told me that before?
So tell me where then! I buy one with it all in already not have to add anything! Oh and its gotta work!
-
the only way that'll happen is if someone else has added it all in! Stick with the mk3 len! You knows you loves it!
-
But as I have said before (sorry to be boring!) as ya cant get a Mk 2 with ABS and air-con
yes you can! no reason not to get one now then eh ?
So come on Chris! Show me this Mk 2 with ABS and air-con please!
-
They look awesome with Little persuasion and have all the features you want. ABS, Air con, Airbags, side impact beams in the doors, much more crumple zones than the feeble MK2. so much much more safer. They are also galvanized so they dont crumble like the MK1's or MK2's and at the end of the day, a sorted MK3 just looks f**king awesome  Bit like mine really
Sad f**ks may say they are heavy and slow and on the whole, they are right. In standard form they are a bit lacking. But i challenge anyone to drive my car and tell me it doesn't kick ass!! And i mean that hole heatedly  my car seriously kicks ass!!! f**k knows if its just the miles its done that have loosened it up, but it f**king flies!!!!! I kid you not  I have taken on a few MK 2's and killed em both!(one was a valver) And a few MK3 16v's and seen them off as well  One guy just would believe my car was a standard 8v with only a drilled airbox and green air filter

Hi all ive owned a various number of mk1s, 2s and 3s and have loved them all (apart from a white f reg mk2 1.3 that was a real pain in the arse) and at the end of the day whats it matter what anyone else thinks if you like driving your vw thats all that mater's. At the moment ive got a mk3 vr6 and im loving it. Its got 136k on the clock, body works great, every thing works, gear change is a little sloppy now but oh well. My last mk2 gti had 140k and drove mint and my last mk1 had 140k and was the same try finding a rover with 140k on the clock thats in mint condition with every thing working.........
-
Mk3's are not as much fun or as quick as mk2's.
The reason why I chose the MK3 was because IMO, it looks better, is more comfortable and is better on the motorway.
-
since i was about 12 or 13 i always said i was gonna buy a mk3 golf cos they were bombproof and looked the dogs danglies, now im 18 and had a brief encounter with french cars(and realised how badly made they are), and ive got a mk3
-
Ive never had a french car due to the fact there made from bog rolls and sticky back plastic. I had 1 moment of madness and brought a rover 600 ti it really was fast but every thing broke gear box eleki windows, alarm, suspension, brakes and aircon so as you can guess i sold it very quickly and came back to what i know best vws.....
-
I have had vw's from the day I passed my test, 11 mk1 gti's 3 mk2 gti's and 1 mk4 gti turbo now im driving a mk3 1997 gti 8v with 166,000 on the clock and it drives like its done 70,000 !! apart from a small starting problem in the mornings it's realy good to drive it puts a smile on my face every time I drive it  and I know its safe to take my kids out in it ! I got it as a trade in but I can not sell it as its just so good to drive !! Im so impressed im looking at buying a vr for some fun
-
I love my vr mate you can drive it nice an steady and its quiet and smooth around town or i can rag the merry bejesus out of it and enjoy that induction noise but i tend to drive nice and steady now as im ready for getting my pension coz im at the ripe old age of 27 .....
-
i've had a mk2'16v' and a mk1'c', both were nimble & fun, but neither had any refinement. the mk3 is leagues ahead when it comes to a comfortable relaxing car. its quiet & smooth and you can drive it for hours on the motorway without it tiring you out - my mk1 was so noisey and bumpy on the motorway, plus any sidewinds would have you fighting at the wheel. The mk2 was more refined, but still had a very very basic early 80's dash which upt me off another one, the mk3 dash is solid and much more modern. They look wicked on the outside too, esp when lowered. i love the look of a black mk3 gti because the tinted rear glass makes it even blacker, its such a cool car. i love mine more and more...
-
I am 32 and had a crappy nova for years
Since I have had my Mk3 I smile all the time I am in it, very sad I know.
No comparison to the vauxhall piece of crap
-
awesome thread
ive wanted a mk3 gti for about 8 years, since i was 16.... and its lived upto every expectation!
and patch: your not alone mate, i smile every time i walk upto it, whenever im driving it, and every time i get out! lol :embarassed:
-
Just bought a vr6 and WOW what a car, my 8v gti is stunning but vr6 sounds crazy  im now looking for a tdi for the wife so when I get that I will have 3 mk3's I smile every time I go out in the gti or the vr
-
yup mk3's rule!
yes mk1 and mk2 (and so on)are very good in thier own right I've driven a few cars (not a great deal but enough to know a good car from bad if you get my drift) and mk3 is a very nice drive indeed. Recently I was unable to drive my mk3 for around 3days but tonight I sat in it started her up started going and that vw satisfaction smile came back to my face! In those short few days I had forgotten how pleseant a drive my car was and wasn't expecting the uber nice drive....mmmmmmmmmgermanefficiencymmmmm
-
I have two of them  yes they are bricks compared to mk1/2. And silly things crap out on them like the power windows
But once you know how they are put together (its lego) they are easy to mod. Can recommend fitting an upper front strut brace and not dropping them to the floor. I do like the 'chunkyness' of them and are much more stable for cruising and long trips.
cant wait for the 16v to go in the 3dr
Best vag car ive had was a mk1 Scirocco. A much better chuckable car than the mk1 Golf imo.
And coupe vs car and all that...
-
My girlfriend has a 3 yr old Saxo and thats like a tin can compared to my 10 year old car, quality is one word for it.
Golfpro, have you had your bumpers etc smoothed off ? How much did it cost ?
Got to say your car looks class mate
-
Built to last. Yeah it has it's small problems, but it is 12 years old. Starts first time, still looks great, & pretty cheap to run & insure.
-
pretty cheap to run & insure.
lol, for you maybe.... mine is costing me £117 a month just for the insurance
worth every penny tho
-
I'm glad I'm old when I hear insurance costs like that! :smug:
-
Bloody hell Mase !!
I am glad I'm old as well with insurance like that
-

thats wat happend when your 22, have had 2 accidents in 2 years (1 my fault, 1 was 50-50), and dont get and NCB untill august

^^^ LMAO....
life does begin at 50 mate, it begins to decline
-
Alright I asked for that!
I wore cords back in the early 70's - they were mauve though!
The rest I am yet to enjoy!
I think life begins at 40. Well actually I think it was about 44 when my daughters had left home!
-
My insurance was about £350 3rd party which actually aint that good  but a bit better than Mase's.
Will go fully comp next year.
I'm only 32 years young, not hand any bumps, clean licence, 5 years no claims. Thats mainly cos I dont drive to / from work.
The problem is when you move your insurance from a 1.2 piece of crap registered at your Mum's nice house in the suburbs of Sheffield to a 2.0 car in Manchester.
The main thing you gotta remember Mase is you have more years to enjoy your car
-
Forgot to say, I got shingles in my 20's  and I find it hard not to p**s myself after too many pints

or weather its such an old joke no one has heard it in 30 years
-
Well if patch has problems keeping it in.........
The old joke was something about bricking em in - Why do ya call it that - coz to make em drink more you wack their bals between two bricks and they go..... ooooshhhhhh!
(cant spell a sucking sound)
Yes it is a crap joke and its is probably 30 + years old.

so, wats up with this weather then :lipsrsealed:
-
At least its not raining !
Did people always want a Mk3 or just got hooked after they got one ?
I was thinking about getting all kinds of cars then thought Golfs are pretty nice, now I am addicted
My oldest bro has an A3 Audi and he kept telling me how good his is, how its faster than mine (should be for a turbo car thats 6-7 years younger), then his turbo blew up
When I heard I just couldnt stop laughing my a**e off
-
ever since i was 16 ive wanted a golf gti, first drove a mk2 when i was 15 out in the states and fell in love, always thought id buy a mk2, such a classic.... but then realised i wanted something newer, saw the mk3 i now own up for sale, and couldnt say no!!!
now though... the only thing id change it for, is a mk3 vr6 (if i could afford the insurance) in fact, i think id rather put a vr6 engine in the mk3 i have now, its not done a lot of miles (86k) and is becoming styled just the way i want it...
baring any major mishaps, ill be keeping this for a long while yet
-
My son-in-law (billy-VW) persuaded me! He just kept banging on how good they were and making me drive his new one everytime he changed, so that was quite often!
There was never any question once I had made my mind up to buy a Golf, it had to be a Mk3 16v with air-con and ABS.
-
I all way's wanted a mk2 and found a perfect one just after my first kid was born...worst luck the boot on a mk2 is the size of a shoe box and the (now ex) girlfriend ordered me to buy a rover!!!!....Luckily a few year's on I am now married to a sane girl who let's me buy what I want..I bought a mk3 1.8driver first followed by an early gti (which was a shed)and now on my third which is my perfect motor (unless my insurance agree's to a vr6 soon)
-
lmao, have you heard you lot ! So basically what you are all saying is you like your mk3s because they are comfortable, they have air-con, mod cons, comfy seats, big boots etc etc etc. So have Rovers, Fiats, Renaults, Peugeots etc etc etc. You all sound as old as Len ! hahahahahahahahahahaha

-

shut up gibby!
 I'm bored, I don't normally come in here so I thought I'd come and mix it up with the mk3 fatty brigade for a bit.
-
Gibby, I think were saying we love our Mk3's so we can wind up all the Mk2 people
Its spreading a bit of love, instead of the usual arguing about a 8V v 16V
Anyway, Rovers have a lot going for them  like..........
Do you reckon there are any Rover forums on the net, showing a mean 75 with a nice halfords body kit on it ?

-
Oh dear baldy head and wind in the hair jokes ! I've not heard that for, oooh, must be at least a couple of hours ! There you all go with your cheap shots and your predictable come backs !
Think of something new and witty to say and I might listen !
Back to the subject, I love mk3s because they are so slow and bulbous and a disgrace to the GTI marque and I love to spank them in my boxy old mk2 ! (and probably my mk1, with the roof down  .....and probably my camper while I'm at it ! )
-
Gibby, we all love our bulbous disgraces to the GTI name
away with you back to your old antique vehicles
-
