OH DEAR WHAT HAVE I DONE!!
THIS WEEK I DECIDED TO SELL MY PRIDE AND JOY GTI AND BUY A 1967 SPLIT SCREEN CAMPER VAN. I SAW SOME NICE ONES AT STANFORD HALL AT THE WEEKEND AND FELL IN LOVE WITH THEM, I THEN SAW ONE FOR SALE IN THE LOCAL PAPER FOR A SMALL FORTUNE, ON THE SPARE OF THE MOMENT AND WITHOUT THINKING IT THROUGH I BOUGHT THE CAMPER, THIS MEANT THE GTI HAD TO GO. BUMMER!! WHY CANT I BE RICH AND HAVE BOTH.
-
 oh dear darl! the splitty will be fun though! tea on the move? enjoy it while you got it.. could always buy golf back.. go see bank manager!? why don't men think...
-
Whack a scooby turbo engine in there and get some speed into it
I love splitties, I think you made the right choice matey...
-
Wheres the pics
I'd love a splitty but i could never part with my gti, my mate said he'd help me restore one but its a lot of money and my golf needs it more at the moment
-
Yeah, even when they are in really poor condition they go for thousands...too much for me, especially when you can't drive it home
-
You could never say it was a bad move!
Tom
-
my favorate vw
i would swap my gti for 1 of them anyday

-
I'd swap my right kidney for a splitty
-
We all love splittys for sure, but having to get rid of the gti for one? Thats a hard decision to have to make......
-
im gonna take the cheaper option and just get a t25...that way i can keep cab, polo and the t25..
pics please hunny..
Dinx
-
Hell Yeah.... PICS!
-
yes pics but u did the right thing i would love a split. definately.
-
JUST TO KEEP YOU ALL INFORMED I HAVE DEFO MADE THE RIGHT DECISION, I LOVED THE GOLF BUT I TOOK THE SPLITTY OUT FOR A DRIVE TODAY. THE SUN WAS SHINING AND I WAS LISTENING TO THE RED HOT CHILLI PEPPERS DRIVING ALONG BRIGHTON BEACH, I DONT THINK LIFE GETS BETTER THAN THAT. SORRY ABOUT HAVING NO PICS BUT I DONT HAVE A DIGI CAMERA. JUST SO YOU ALL KNOW IT IS A SOLID ROOF, SO HAS NO UGLY POP TOP, IS IN THE ORIGINAL OLIVE GREEN/WHITE COLOUR AND HAS A SET OF CHROME EMPISM BODY WORK IS VERY CLEAN AS IS THE CHASSIS, THE INTERIOR IS STANDARD BUT VERY CLEAN AND USABLE.
I WILL STILL BE KEEPING IN TOUCH WITH YOU ALL THOUGH AS I HAVE DECIDED THAT NOW WOULD BE THE RIGHT TIME TO BUY MYSELF A MK1 GTI, I HAVE ALWAYS WANTED ONE AND NOW I HAVE A GARAGE I THINK I WILL GET A RESTORATION GOLF AND PUT IT BACK TO HOW IT SHOULD BE.
IF ANYBODY IS PLANNING ON GOING TO BVF THIS YEAR THEN LET ME KNOW AND WE CAN MEET UP, IM SURE I WILL BE WISHING I STILL HAD THE MK2 AS WELL AS THE SPLITTY
-
You won't regret getting mk1
A mate at work is getting rid of a rolling chassis thats ready for painting and loads of new bits - I'll be posting details soon, although I'll be taking my pick of it first  - I know he wants about £600 for the shell
-
Spilties are cool but like Dinx I went the T25 route as it's cheaper, more reliable and faster. Shame it's no way near as cool but they are moving up the coolness stakes as Splits and Bays become more and more expensive even for total resto rust heaps!
Have fun and enjoy the life of a van dweller, it totally rocks just being able to park up and not have to worry about putting up tents and unpackeing etc.

Nick..were gonna make em cool hun!
Dinx
-
hehe...do you have one yet, di, or still looking?
I need to make my GTI into a GTI-S first, then I'll be wanting a T25...
-
i may have one...but its gonna get confirmed tmw i think..
Dinx

Nice work Dinx! Pop up pics when you get it!

oh my god, the life of a v-dub nut is never dull. what a week it has been with 3 cars now changing hands. It started with me selling my mk2 (gutted), had a great result half way through and bought a splitty, and ended up with me buying a mk1 gti today.
so in the space of six days i have sold a mk2 and bought a awsome splitt-screen and a cleanish mk1 gti for me to play with. I think i might need to do a bit of overtime now!!
-
 best o both worlds hun
Dinx
-
Is it me or does the whole aircooled/watercooled car/van scene seem to be merging a lot more these days???
Personally I couldn't imagine being without my golf or my T25 these days!
Good move with the split Gary, they rule, although somehow I'd of had to hang onto the mk2.
-
it does seem to be merging together....
he does have a mk1 gti now, so he has a bit of performance still

Lucky sod.
Get some details and pics up of both.

nice one!! Splitty's are my joint favourite VW ever!! along with golf rallyes!!
hope you have breakdown cover, a mk1 & a splitty....brave!!
only kidding, just a bit jealous!!
-
i dont think im going to need breakdown cover for the mk1 for a while, at the moment it is just a shell, ive got big plans for her though including a big engine conversion, if anybody knows of a good one then let me know. I dont wanna be cutting the car about too much so i dont want anything like a vr6 engine. I

I like the sound of 2.0l 16v turbo's  - long term thats my aim, a N/A 16v is going to see me through till then - which is pretty much a straight bolt in job with a little bit of wiring and some chopping about of hoses - check my sig-pic to see how i'm getting on

TAKING THE SPLITTY AWAY FOR THE WEEKEND DOWN TO CORNWALL, THAT SHOULD PUT THE TRUSTY AIR COOLED TO THE TEST, I CANT WAIT , I BLOODY LOVE DRIVING IT!!!!!!!
JUST THOUGHT I WOULD USE YOU LOT FOR A BIT OF BRAIN STORMING, THE QUESTION IS THIS:: WHAT COLOUR SHOULD A SPRAY THE MK1. I LIKE METALLIC PAINT, I WAS THINKING MAYBE A REALLY DARK GREEN, ALMOST BLACK. THE OTHER COLOUR I LIKED IS THE PASTEL YELLOW COLOUR, THE ONLY PROBLEM IS THAT I HAVE SEEN IT LOADS BEFORE
ANY IDEAS???????????????????????
-
I'm quite boring and like black (http://i22.photobucket.com/albums/b336/MK1MADJ/YAWN.gif) (I'm an accountant what can i say ) If i was looking for a funky colour i'd probably go check out some hot-rods for ideas (some of them look good enough to eat ) some of the old watercooled dubs are into the custom colours too.
-
any pictures :undecided:
-
 he hasn't got a camera

I would have to say that it was a top idea for the summer but beware those beasts cost the earth, it's something to do with the fact that you have all that space in the back and it just gives you far too much scope to buy things. Says the man that bought a 1979 2ltr bay camper last summer and have a very large overdraft.
good luck

:cool:wicked. I just had my first weekend away in the splitt. It was really good, even my 1 year old seemed to enjoy being in the back. Only problem, it has no bloody heating. Also looks like the brakes need looking at as it was pulling slightly to one side. AND SO THE MONEY PITT BEGINS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Also sorry to sound dumb but i didnt know i could put pics on here with a camera phone, if somebody could explain how than i would be most greatful.

2nd. upload your pics to a... er..... I dunno what they call them - www.photobucket.com
