maybe thick but which is the "Hydraulic tappets" on here? or are they in a completely different place altogether??
please enlighten me!

Hmmmm not any of them things! I think hydraulic lifters is what they are called, they should be with the cams like..... They go between the cam and the valve push rod and extend so they touch the cam thus extending more when they get worn. and extending less when thye havn't got sufficient oil pressure causing tap on startup.

Hydraulic tappet is no.8.
-
Is that what it looks like?!? I must admit i always wondered!
Sorry for the misleading reply. Getting ahead of myself i'm afraid :embarassed:
-
some peeps call them followers just put a new set in mine and theyre suprisingly cheap!

Gonna hijack a little here. When you take your cams out, how do you know your putting them back in right? Do you line marks up or something?
-
Just mark which valve they all came from, as well as the cam caps. Make sure you get the order and orientation of the caps exactly right or you'll turn the head & cam into scrap!
-
what if your fitting new cams?
-
same thing, make sure the caps all go on the same way they came off :)
-
did finally work it out, why are they called so many different things?? Do you reckon I should fit 16 new tappets then? Can you tell if they are worn? and if so should I just replace those that look dodgy?
-
same thing, make sure the caps all go on the same way they came off :)
Yeah but how do you make sure you get the orientation right and the chain on correctly? Is there a tdc notch or something to line them up to?
-
yes there is two markers on the cam chain sprockets. they need to be facing each other
the cam belt end has a TDC marker. when this is TDC the sprocket marker on the other end is at 3'o'clock you then set the other cam sprocket marker to face it at 9 o'clock
-
or if you're worried, make your own markings with some tipex or someting, lable them 1-5 and put an arrow pointing to the cam sproket end of the engine ;)
