Well friday saw the untrimphant return of my valver from an insurance body shop type place after they took it away to look at it in more detail and assess the value of it.
They rang me on my mobile at about 8:15 on friday morning just as i was about to leave for work saying they are on their way with my car on the back of a low loader, my mum was going to be on so i thought ok fair enuff. Then at about 10 ish my mum rang me to say that they had dropped my car off, but they had left it diagonally, half on our drive, half on next door neighbours garden!and that i am to move it when i get it from work.
I parked the Astra 1.6 courtesy car beast up when i got home from work and saw how my car was parked and couldnt believe that they would actually leave it this way, then as i got nearer it immediately noticed that the centre caps from my BBS RA's had gone!! this annoyed me as you can imagine. So i went to go and get a torch to see if they had took anything else, they had...........!!
Missing from my valver is:
The Centre caps from my RA's
The red GTI badges that go on the side mouldings of the door
the 16valve badge from the back under where it says "Golf GTI"
my leather Gear Stick Gaitor
My debadged grill (which was on the back seat as it wouldnt go back on after the crash)
and........wait for it!........
My CD player!!
All of this has been TWOC'd whilst the car has been in their yard!!!
I tried to phone them up to question them about it but conveniently there was no-one in, but to be fair it was 10 to 6 on a friday evening.
My first instinct was to inform the police, and so did. They suggested that I wait until i have spoken to the people at the body shop and see what they say before taking it any further but had logged it and would be prepared to take action otherwise.
Now i didnt think this was going to be as straight forward as it seemed as this particular company have a bad reputation, and I know a couple of people who have had bad experiences with them, whether it be their work or the attitudes.
But surprisingly however the Manager, one mr Kevin Hogg was very compliant and did everything he could. He said that he would send out the transport manager (the clown that is in charge of the collection of vehicles etc) and they guy who dropped ther car off (who looked like Dave Hedgehog from the TV show Bottom!!)
So they came round and moved the car back to where it should be, i.e not on our neighbours lawn and took pictures of the where the stuff that is missing should be. After they had gone, we got another phone call from the manager (Hogg) he said that he would go through all the paper work and see if the person who collected the car from me had done a check as to what was in the car at the time. He called back to say that it was documented that all the items i said were missing were on the car when it was taken in. Great! at least we have estabished who is at fault.
But as this was saturday afternoon i heard no more from him other than he is going to look through all the CCTV footage to see if they can see who took my stuff and have a chat with the companies directors.
Hopefully i should get my stuff compensated for, and u never know a new and better stereo but thats not the point.
They may even offer to fix my car. Alls i know is that if they dont offer me some sort of compensation i will drag there name throught the dirt, go to the local press and inform them of what kind of company they are. I have already informed direct line who they have a deal with and get alot of work from, so hopefuly they will give them a kick up the arse.
I will keep you all informed as to what they say tomorow.
And in case you were wondering the company is called Banks and Derbyshire and is located in Ashton in Preston, Lancashire
thanks for reading all of my drivel

DIrect line are a big company and hopefuly will take this as seriously as i am!

Its just another set back for getting the valver back on the road in time for all the meets n shows this year!

^^ well spotted Gibby it turns out that there was a policy in place for her, but at the time of the incident i wasnt aware of this. The guy she was with owned the car but she was driving, and on the insurance certificate that i looked at to get his details her name wasnt on the certificate it was someone elses down as a named driver. But it must of been an old certificate. Unless she just forgot her name, she was a pissed up smack head to be fair to her so it wouldnt surprise me!!
I am waiting for them to call me back with an update but i think i will give it another half our and see if the guy i need to speak to is back in the office
-
i hope you get it sorted hun...why do people do stuff like this ffs...surely they must know how p!ssed off you are havin the valver off the rd without them adding insult to injury..wayner kerrs

i have never know a car been off the road for such a small amount of damage give me the parts and the paint and ill sort it. all in all it only needs about £100 spendin. at this rate my mk1 will be on the road first and that would be emmbarrasing.
-
^^ well spotted Gibby
Nah, just too much time spent on here. That's even better for you though, better than her not being insured as you first thought.

Dont worry son, as my designated mechanic i will be seeking ur assistance. But my only concern is if the chassis leg is bent, which i think it is on the offside! I am just waiting for the lock up to be built, we need to give dave a kick up the arse!

when a guy i work with had his car stolen/recovered, it went straight to the police impound since it wasnt damaged. he went to identify the car and check his tent and tools were still in the boot.
the day after he went to pick it up and the tent & tools were missing... keeping in mind that the only people with access to the yard were police officers he wasn't best pleased. To add more fun to the situation he's actually married to a copper who got straight on the phone to the chief constable.
i was never told the full details of what happened next but i know that they got brand new stuff back and someone was charged and suspended from duties
i love this country.
-
its a fooked up world isnt it! not even safe in a police yard!!
the bloke that is the work shop manager mentioned about claiming on their insurance for my stuff back so i should get brand new stuff, including some nice shiney new BBS centre caps (if they still make them for RA's), but i need to get the model number for my Kenwood Head unit, and i cant find the box!! Should i just look at any random Head unit and give him that model number?
-
look on their site and see if you can recognise it :)
-
^^ I was thinking that but its about 2 years old so not sure if it'll be on..........only one way to find out tho ay!
-
At 2 years old it should still be covered under warranty? So it may not be on the main part of the site, but check the support section.
-
good thinking bat man!!
-
sorry to here you troubles mate hope it comes good soon ....
Jet

A similar thing happened to a friend of mine some years ago . He had a Mk1 GTI with a 1900 conversion that I had built for him (it came 2nd in the modified class sprint at Gti international at Crowthorn back in the early 90's   )
Anyway, he had the wheels nicked off it when it was parked somewhere off the Pearly Way (London) , it was then taken to a police compound to keep it "secure". But when he came to collect it a week later with some spare wheels that he had borrowed , the car had been completely stripped (including the engine and gearbox)

stories like this i find really shocking. Its just wrong that ppl do things like that and how ever the twit who did it thought he'd get away with it god only knows. As far as your HU goes Id try to find something similar but maybe a couple of models up and give them the serial number from that as the one u had. Its got to be worth a go as they are replacing stuf rather than tracking the old stuf down and giving it back. Good luck and i hope all turns out ok.
-
^^^ i was thinking about doing that, picking out a nice one!!
-
yeah tbh jus do that, not likely you gonna be able to get the same one back now and anyway, a new one gonna cost about what your old one would have cost you then. But do try an screw them for something. arsewipes.

-
^^^ i tried doing that but they want proof of purchase, i.e. receipt or the box!!!!
i bought it 2 years go!!!!
-
try giving them a slap, better still a dose of baseball bat to the mug - hows that for proof of reciept??!
seriously though, dunno guess you gonna have to try argue it out with them - i mean who keeps the box for 2 years?!
you tried seeing what the old CAB gotta say about the matter?
-

Proof of purchase? f*ck that!. You dont have to prove anything to them mate, they booked it in as in the car when they received it they cant deny you having it. Point out to them they either replace all the stolen items, or you go to the police and the media..
-
I am going to be speaking to them tomorow, well i might get my dad to speak to them, i am crap with this sort of thing!!
get a nice new head unit and then some dollar to replace all the bits that are missing!!
-
yeah an make sure you leave them with at least 10% more than the car had - think of all the trouble and hasssle its been. Or im sure we can rustle up a bunch of heavies between us all on here...
-
Oh i will be making sure i am compensated for it!!!
-
I hope there eyes explode I hate car magpies
-
I was just annoyed at the fact that they cant even keep tabs on what cars they have in, and which ones cant be butchered for parts!
well i faxed over to the bloke a copy of the receipt, the warranty card and the front page of the manual so will ring him today and see what the crack is!
-
this was how they left the car when they delivered it back!!
