hoping for some help....when closing passenger e/w the window reaches the top and then comes straight back down about a third. If I then hold down either the button (driver or passenger side) the same happens until the third time, when it stays up. Strangely exactly the same thing happened on the driver window a few weeks ago but only once and its fine now, so unless I'm seriously unlucky I don't think its the motors.
would appreciate your comments as its driving me nuts

Are you saying that you have to press the other button for it to work?
You may benefit from taking the door card off and having a look inside. You may spot something loose or the reason for the problem.

I had this for years on my 8v.
Caused by the rubber window seals causing excess friction. I believe the window mechanism detects excess frcition and takes it to mean that something is trapped in the window. So it goes back down. It's a safety feature to stop kiddies decapitating themselves by closing their neck in the window . I *believe* you can simulate this by pressing down on the window when it's going up. This should stop it going up and send it back down.
Well - that's what I was told anyway! Try cleaning the seals to make it a more fluid motion. I always found my windows worked fine in the wet (bit of natural lubrication from the rain). But always had the problem in the dry.
Not much to worry about unless you really can't get the bu88gers to go back up at all!

thanks to all for the advice - i fixed the problem over the weekend. The solution was to disconnect and then reconnect the battery (i did the negative terminal only). this has seemed to reset the window and its working ok.
