... how about a £30k Yaris?
Who fancies booting their GTI over the nearest hedge and replacing it with one of these?

You can even pop it in your trolley while popping into the supermarket
-
It could have 500bhp and I'm still not interested.

I watched that the other night and given one side of my family has always ran toyotas all completely faultless for decades now ( they never shut up about them even though they are as dull as dish water to driver) but this did get my attension as it maybe fun back at Toyota.
It will be too hard riding and the interior.
But I give them credit they made it a production road car were others haven't in recent years.
Without cars like this getting made cars like the urQuattro, Impreza turbo, evo, Delta integrale, M3 evo, cosworth, GT4turbo2, 323 turbo, rs200 and many more wouldn't exist.
You never know it maybe somethimg special

You forgot about the insane Nissan pulsar

I've been very quietly excited about this...
100% going for a joyride in one when they hit dealerships!!

I was looking at the Mini GP 2020...
Only glancing really.... but if you wanted something utterly bonkers, it looks like thats where you find it:
https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/mini/jcw-gp/
300bhp front wheel drive, suspension harder than a Times cryptic crossword...
Just leaf through the bible of absolute automotive no-gos, and the vices are all there in abundance: steering fight, torque steer, waywardness at any speed, marginal ride comfort, man eventually succumbing to machine.

Wonderful car.! Future classic and great weekend toy.!
Golf R owners beware.!!

It absolutely will be a cult car

Hats off to Toyota for building this.
Not sure why anyone would think it was overpriced though.
Manual, 4wd, 260bhp from a 3 cylinder engine, a proper homologation special in a bespoke body.
A Fiesta ST performance edition is nearly £27k.

Agree 100%! Car RRP's are no longer cheap.
Building a VERY niche car in a terrible climate against proven opposition, from a manufacturer who is committed to an 'eco' brand/product line-up.
I welcome it, even if I have little interest in driving a Yaris. Competition means the other manufacturers up their game.

0-60 in 5.5 secs for £30k new - hard to beat that.
Takes me back to Group B rallying - remember the Metro 6R4?
-
It's hardly a 6R4.
-
It's hardly a 6R4.
I didn't say it was, just that it took me back to those days. I think the road going version of the 6R4 had 250hp so this does at least have more power...….

That was close to 40k way back then so more expensive

So the Yaris is an absolute bargain then!

Same here, couldn't drive the same model car as mum

I know - if only had a mint one now.....

I put a deposit down on one of these as a fun car subject to test drive and unlike the TCR which is a bit of a fraudulent link to the race car, GR have actually done a huge amount of bespoke development for it. It was due to be in dealerships in August but I suspect that will be pushed out. Build quality won't be GTI - it has a gas strut on the bonnet unlike the MKVIII  I jest but it's about driver engagement and fun. Think they've done a good job on the styling. It has a manual hand brake which is cause for celebration in itself but they've put the battery in the boot to aid weight distribution so I wonder how compromised it will be as a road car if that's any indication.
There are only two spec options in the UK, if you want the 2 LSDs and all the GR features, you need to buy the circuit version. Japan has a lot more choice in terms of specifications including HUD and so on.
For a three cylinder engine, it sounds pretty good: https://youtu.be/ORwTblU4BK8?t=11

Proper angry hornet noise that!
This car does interest me greatly.
A proper bespoke coupe sharing not a great deal with the car it borrows a name from.
Definitely one to be investigated further.
I’ve no real use for a family five seater hatch these days and since my son returned my other car to me I‘Ve been spending the last six or more weeks commuting in a car with a manual gearbox and handbrake again which is perfect with hardly any traffic on the roads! Getting 55mpg is quite nice too
In this age where everything on the car has become a digital experience it’s nice to have a car that has an immediate intimate physical reaction to every manual input no matter how small. That’s what I grew up with in (admittedly mostly modified) hot hatches and what I miss most with lardy modern cars strangled by emissions compromises despite the ingenuity of the engineers squeezing ever more efficiency from the moving parts.
The GR could be an answer to whats rapidly being lost (and not missed by the dishwasher and PlayStation generation).
Mind you I might look a bit of a tit getting in and out of one at my age, but hey, who cares?!!

Watched a couple of early track reviews and it certainly sounds well. Personally think it will be a great little car but the badge conscious buyers will stay clear as it’s not a nearly premium brand. Actually looks like they’ve made a very fun car wrapped up in a properly bespoke shell. For £30k, I say well done.

^ It's crazy how much perception has changed recently about value for money. Since when was a supermini, no matter how bonkers, considered value for money at £30k?
For most PCPing rather than handing over £30k in one lump, value for money will depend on perceived residuals/GFV attributed. I can't see the residuals being great on this car unless it's rarer than rocking horse sh!te and lives up to the hype - probably a better buy at 2 years old with 40% off RRP.
-
Unless it is truly a limited production it won't be any more rare than something else a bit cheap like a I30N.
And just like the I30N it will have standard Asian mass car residuals, which will mean you are buying something that TCO is going to be insane.
I know there are people here who don't think about TCO, but if you want to get VFM you have to consider that.
You might discover that having a Mini GP2020 costs you less.
-
^Mini residuals are abysmal these days too. The RRP is a joke for most of them. We saw 14 month old Mini Cooper S, average miles, really good condition, with a new RRP.of £26k with a Mini dealership sticker price of £14k. Unless they got an £8k discount, the original buyers would've lost a fortune on it.

Proper angry hornet noise that!
Reminds me of the mid 90's and the unmistakable sound of a Ford Fiesta with a Peco Big Bore 2 exhaust strapped to it...
