...would you go with?
I know it’s always subjective but I’ve had Millteks on previous MkIV GTI’s and Supersprint plus others on BMWs etc but I’m wondering which have you gone with and why?
I’ve got a Mk7 GTI PP and I’m looking to replace the stock system but wonder also what the sound difference is between resonated and non-resonated. I’ve checked plenty of you tube vids but it’s always difficult to really tell.
If anyone’s near me in Wolves/Birmingham and has a Milltek or similar on theirs and is willing to meet up I’d appreciate it.
Thanks,
Raj.

Think Remus do some great exhausts for the Mk7.

Thanks for the reply.
Have been looking at Remus and others to compare.

I'd go for Milltek, Scorpion or Cobra.
Remus are way overpriced

Milltek - Yes,
Scorpion - Yes,
Cobra - Never again!
Had a Cobra sport on my old Astra VXR. Poor quality stainless throughout and had to have the tailpipe replaced. By the time the replacement had corroded again, I was in Cyprus, so scotchbrited the tailpipe and sprayed it satin black.
Got a Milltek on the GTI and it's a night and day comparison.

I’m leaning towards Milltek as have had them before.
Interested in the resonated / non res difference in sound to get an idea of which way to go.
I’d like a bit more burble but not to be intrusive too much.

So another positive for the Milltek.
Do you have the resonated or non on yours and how does it sound compared to stock?
Some of the sound clips etc are hit and miss and a few I’ve listened to didn’t have a huge difference between stock and upgraded whereas others seem might and day difference lol

Mine's this one... http://www.millteksport.com/non-resonated-cat-back-exhaust-system-ssxvw230mp.html (http://www.millteksport.com/non-resonated-cat-back-exhaust-system-ssxvw230mp.html)
...which is now called the "unresonated" one. Without knowing how you like the volume on your cars, I can only describe mine as "Beefy but not overly loud" and doesn't drone. I think it sounds great and am glad I went for this rather than the 1 box setup which I reckon would be too loud. Bare in mind that if you are going to be getting a downpipe later on, this increases the volume of the system considerably, so if that's your plan, I'd definitely go for this over the 1 box - in fact, I'd even be tempted with the EC approved system.
I'm quite an OEM+ type of person, so don't like it too loud - just to let you know my tastes (in comparison to what yours might be).

It sounds like I'm a similar type to yourself so the non-res could be the way to go. I definitely don't want any drone but don't plan to go with DP's as my other car is highly modded so this one is supposed to be more civilised  according to my wife.
I looked at the resonated version as it had the larger backbox instead of the non-res smaller box in the straight pipe but from what you've described that could be too quiet still.
Will try and check more sound clips.
Thanks again.

How about going oem and adding a CSS backbox? Seems popular and an econmical option.

Didn’t know about that option so have been looking. Does seem a positive option with stock exhaust. Just checking prices for it.
Thanks.

These people seem to come recommended although I haven't tried them myself - https://cars245.co.uk/item/audi-volkswagen-5G6253609DD-rear-silencer/

Yeah they are the ones I have come across from other forums while searching. Quite a price increase from what people were paying before lol
-
Remus may be slightly more dollar then the alternatives but big smiles quality is exerlent and the noise is 👍
I had Miltek Scorpion and Akrapovic on other brands of car.
2nd choice would be Akrapovic but these are serious £££

I've been pricing this up over the last few days. Unfortunately the price has gone up by quite a bit from when I last thought about upgrading. VW want £597 and everywhere else is ~£100 less when you include the hidden postage. Was quoted £115 for postage from one eBay seller.
I called into Tony Banks exhaust in Leeds to enquire about a full system which came in at ~£1000.
The other option was to just change the tips to the same size as the Clubsport as I'm happy with how the stock system sounds, however I'm unsure on the diameter of the tips. This option is very cost effective at £40-50 each side.
I'd absolutely love to go with an Akrapovic system but I'm not sure I can justify spending £3,500 (before fitting) on an exhaust.
-
Another vote for the Remus system.
Superb fit and finish, proven performance increase plus great sound.

I've also run Milltek on previous MkIV's and have an Akra on my 335i. Akra for me but yeah brand new they are crazy money.

Agreed crazy money brand new so I did the next best thing and bought another GTI with it on already

Was the tip option from Tony Banks aswell?
I'm also looking into options and feel the same with regards to sound, and the tips are the only let down for me.
Personally I think 4" diameter would be ideal, I believe this is the size of the miltek tips too.
-
There is a new MAP catback coming out soon, that has a valved option, as well as resonated and non-resonated downpipe. No sound clips yet but I'll keep an eye out
-
Yes, the tip mod was from Tony Banks.
Does anyone know the size of the tips on the facelift/ Clubsport?
I'm leaning more towards the CSS muffler at the moment.
-
Muffler!!
-
i have a clubsport S and had a res delete fitted , it sounded terrible , so i had a smaller resonator fitted into the res delete pipe by power flow and it sounds perfect now !
-
So in the end I did something crazy. Now running a full Akrapovic Evoltuion turbo back system with their matching diffuser.
Will sort out my photobucket account and post some pics up.

Bet that sounds well.
Just use https://postimages.org/ much better than PB.

I've recently fitted the CSS backbox to my '15 PP DSG.
Wow, is all I can say. This is the way the car should have come from factory, the sound, the bigger tips, and the backfires.

I was able to cut the original back box off without removing the whole centre section. Unbolt the rear cross brace and the flexi on the down pipe gives you enough wiggle room to drop the back of the exhaust onto some axle stands.

There is a slight increase in cabin drone but nothing major. I still have no qualms about putting my new born into the car so it is definitely not intrusive.
Under load however it is a bit louder, loud enough to turn heads. At WOT it sounds amazing. A bit more volume than the factory back box which is welcomed.
And then the pops, the pops! The back fires out of it are ridiculous. So much so that I try not to shift gear when overtaking a car so that I don't scare the bejaysus out of them.
I picked up the backbox and clamp from a VW dealership here in Dublin, Ireland for €430. I don't where the dealer quoted figures of £595 are coming from....
-
That's not a bad price at all, do you have the name of the dealership, I'll ask them how much shipping to the UK would be. The price of £595 was from VW Leeds.
-
@davkav - nice addition buddy.
I definitely looked at the CS backbox but then got a superb deal on some bits so had to do it.

Yeah no problem, it was VW Joe Duffy, Finglas, Dublin, Ireland. Let me know how you get on.

Can't find an email address for them. I'll have to give them a bell I think.

I love the sound of my Remus just a deeper rumble until you give it the beans and zero drone. I always had them on my bikes as well because of the build quality.

What Remus exhaust have you got Finglonga and did you change the diffuser? 👍
-
The back box only. The Rieger diffuser came with it. It was put on a couple of weeks after I picked the car up back in 2014.
