Hi all,
Thought I'd pop a post on here as I have just gone and bought my first VW - and I doubt it will be the last.
I have been looking for a new car, it had to be practical and economical for work, while being fun on the weekends. I looked at a Focus ST and a 330d msport, and never really give VW a thought as to me they were always a bit boring.
Well I drove past a VW dealer Saturday just gone and thought i'd have a gander, and was blown away with a GTI they had in the showroom - Indium Grey 5 door, Santiago alloys & DSG - I couldn't believe how far the Golf has come since the mk4, the only VW I have spent some time in really.
So I bought it on the Monday after having a think, and picked it up Wednesday. Its such an amazing car - and I'm comparing it to some of my previous cars (e46 M3, Toyota Supra, Nissan Silvia, Scooby STI etc - humble brag!). Its so usable! It literally does everything I need, I just cant stop driving it!
Guess now i'm a VAG boy  no point to this post really, just dead happy with my purchase :nerd:

Congratulations! Great choice. Any mods planned or happy as is?

Congratulations!
Welcome to the world of boring VWs!!

Welcome to the forum.
Good to hear that you're happy with your purchase. It seems you're here for the same reason as most others on here; your appreciation of what is a very good car.
-
Please tell us you researched the market to find a good discount and forced your dealer to match it.
-
Thanks guys! No mods as of yet apart from subwoofer in the spare wheel well I don't think just yet.
And yes, I got him to beat the best carwow quote I had, so happy days.

Great colour choice, Indium does look great on a GTi. Also the upgrade wheels are a great bonus as the standard ones look very poor.
-
Hi and welcome glad your happy with the Gti imo it's an excellent all rounder you will be pleased
-
Just a quick one regarding my new car, I turned it on yesterday and something hissed for around 5 seconds, quite a loud hiss - sounds like aircon or something? Is that normal?
-
Could be the aircon, could be the fuel pump.
Both are normal noises (I've had Mk7/Mk7.5 since 2014).
-
Nice choice! I've got Indium Grey, 5dr DSG and love it so you won't be disappointed - great everyday car and Indium is such a good colour. Enjoy!

I agree, that's the thing I hate most about my 7.5. I wish Santiago were the standard option.

I ordered the bressica wheels for my new 7.5 gti , I had Santiago on my previous 2014 gti and they look great , however they are a ar@e to keep clean , now had the new one for 3 weeks and can honestly say the bressica wheels are easy to clean and seem to stay cleaner longer
Each to his own I know , just my opinion

Not sure I can agree the Brescia wheels are easy to clean. Mine take ages but I am very fussy. They do however look great when clean.

Quickie question. I know the new MK7.5 performance Golfs now utilize LED technology headlights instead of the former Xenon units of earlier cars, but can anyone tell me if the dynamic cornering lights (if they still exist), that shine out sideways on the Xenon units when turning, are still there in the newer units are still a filament type H7 bulb (i.e. not a built in LED light) ?
-
They are LED AFAIK.... no more bright white headlights with yellow cornering ones. I think the LED's are just part of the array that make up the bank of headlight ones.
-
Ah right, thanks Fred, so no need to remove my Osram Nightbreakers I fitted to the GTD then ?
-
Not as far as I know - I don't they'll fit!
