My dark grey 7.5R came with 19” black Pretorias. They look good but I’m getting a second set. The car has black mirror caps, black sunroof and the dark tinted rear windows. Black is probably the sensible choice but any other ideas on colour and style? Would matt anthracite work or is that just grey on grey?

Grey on grey is a bit much for my liking, especially if the shades are closely matched.
For grey cars i prefer black, silver or dare I say... ...diamond cut. :shocked:

When I owned my Carbon Grey mk6 Golf I put a set of anthracite VW Rotary alloys on it and IMO the colour of the wheels went well with the Carbon Grey paintwork.
I personally don’t like black wheels and I dislike diamond cut wheels for their fragility when subjected to the winter weather, but wheel colour (and a car’s paint colour) choice is a very personal thing. If we all liked the same colours, life would be boring :smiley:.

Im considering having my wheels powder coated and cant decide on colour the ideal would likely be gloss black as the roof and mirror caps are same but a wee bit of my fancies anthracite
Any thoughts ?

I’m with Guzzle on this.
I would say if you do go grey on grey, make sure it’s not the same or a very similar tone of grey. On Indium I’d make the wheels slightly darker than the body otherwise it’s too samey. In the above pics, SRGTD gets it spot on with his Rotary wheels which are different tone to the carbon body, in his case the wheels slightly lighter than the body. In Ian’s (and this is just my opinion) as much as the BBS CH-R are a great design, to me, in that particular pic, the wheels are too similar a tone to the car to thrill, it just looks a bit ‘executive’. Sorry Ian. The saving grace may be that LSG looks very different in different lights. Phew! :laugh:

Gloss Anthracite against white is beautiful. Classier and a notch above black on white. And it still works with black mirror caps amd roof, breaks up the monochrome which can start to look quite flat if overdone.

Think im defonsold on the anthracite had gloss black on the sd and felt they looked chavvy with my other black bits 🙄

Pure white but the roof spoiler and mirror caps r gloss black ....still think anthracitr is the way to go ? S'pose the wheels just now r silver and black i think gloss black b too neddy (no offence to anyone who has this)

They would look much better on my Indium Grey GTI :whistle: :whistle:
So, shall we expect them to be in the classifieds next week by your previous form where wheels are concerned ?? :grin: :grin:
Seriously though BBS CH-R’s would and maybe will be my first choice replacement wheel if the Brescia’s being diamond cut turn out to be fragile!!
Decision is bright silver or satin ??
Sorry to hijack the thread but there is some common ground in so much as both myself and the OP have Indium Grey :wink:

@sharper, I see your car every month in Sharper&volkswizard magazine (aka VW Driver) and have to say it’s one of the most menacingly understated R’s I’ve ever seen and looks nigh on perfect as it is.
Try a Pretoria from your CSS on the R to see how the colour looks as the bluey grey colour of the ‘normal’ Pretoria is halfway to anthracite.
Being able to view the mid grey and the black on the car at the same time will give you a guide as to how anthracite would look as it’ll be midway between the two.
The black Prets would look great on the CSS too.
The style of the wheel can have a great bearing on colour too.
Orange Pretorias look very nice on Indium R’s :laugh: :lipsrsealed:

Thanks guys for the advice. Good point about shades of grey! But seriously the colour of the wheel needs to be different. I’m thinking about the Revo matt grey 19” wheel. I’ll need to show one up to the car to see how it looks. I’m sure Revo will oblige if I pop over to se them in Daventry.
Does anyone on here run the Revo wheel?

Just had a look at some of your videos and I can't decide if they're polished silver, diamond cut with grey inserts, or just light grey. :undecided:
Either way there's definitely enough contrast with the bodywork so all is well :smiley:

I have anthracite pretorias on an Oryx white Golf R with Carbon Black mirror caps it looks great. I would say grey wheels on a grey car with black mirror caps would also look great. As Booth states it would be OK as long as the grey of car and wheel were not too close in tone as it could all look a bit similar. :smiley:

Grey on grey works well IMO. I've been slowly removing the chrome stuff from the outside and the wheels were the finishing touch...

But it is diamond cut with grey inserts!, very much like the indium Grey on the car. And because it is diamond cut, i have a extra wheel if i will scratch some... :grin: :grin:
