Title: My Golf R 7.5 has landed
Post by: CHB100 on 15 May 2017, 19:10
And is ready for take off, took driver back to station and had a little blast around the Cotswolds. What! This is super car territory. More to come but did drive a  used 7 R with a seller so can't really compare, but compared to wife's 7 GTI another planet, superb ride not used comfort yet, engine noise I guess amazing for many but will need to adjust I think. Grip off rough surface new to me, no scrabble. Btw love the smart dash, clear bright and so much info. Anyone else with one please respond. Will no doubt find faults but who cares with this amazing package

Haven't made my mind up yet? The thing's daft, to hell with a pedal box that inch of slack is what keeps you out of the bushes! Anyway Mk7 to Mk7.5 have you noticed a difference or improvement. Don't know what you had or experienced before. Would like to drive a 7 R back to back. Might chat up a dealer.

Ordered around £200 of detail gear!!!! Not that I'll use it. Lady Rebecca's VWROC Carnauba Wax in Lapiz Blue naturally. Hopefully good for 6 months as car doesn't get town city pollution and not high mileage.

Interesting thoughts on the pedal slack as on a mapped car I hated it but do not mind on standard

Good effort on the cleaning products

Some pictures would be nice

What was it you said?

Ok,so I'm not about to become a slave to detailing.....

  You should have said you were going for the OD VWROC Lapiz wax, could have got you a discount.

Glad to hear you are enjoying your new R.  Wonder if you'll feel the same about the pedal lag in a few months time?

Welcome to the club.

Seduced, more like conned! Let you know results, when I get round to booking a few days to prioritise.
Do detailers go out cruising showing off their shine, just a thought.

How have you been conned, what were you promised over what you got?

I don't know about other so called 'detailers' but I go out in my car, clean or dirty, when I need to which is daily.  What's the bug bear with those who spend a bit of time on their car's condition and appearance?  How does that differ from those that modify their cars?

Nothing at all, unless in extremis or OCD.I've loved my cars since first mini van. And spent loads of time on them. Always admired by others condition wise. Detailing is a new phenomenon as we don't maintain them mechanically any more. It also smacks of profiteering by some manufacturers jumping on the bandwagon.

Whatever as car lovers, it's a better pastime than golf or gaming for sure, at least it has purpose.

Much like almost everything else then. I like to think that people are capable of a making a conscious choice on what they spend their money on, be it detailing, gaming, Golf or Golfs :-)

Beg to differ, there are an awful lot of gullible people, if you've ever been involved in retail which I was and to some extent still are, you'ld be amazed at what people waste cash on. No, most folks are not capable, hence the need it now, impatient throw away society we have, with individual debt at an all time high.
I'm of a generation of buy with your own cash and yes anilise (word of mouth, google and friendly forums!) each purchase worth or need.
As in buying car care products!

I was involved in retail for over 10 years (Whitbreads - wine trade) and like most things there are always gullible people that make for an easy sale, and who are very easily parted from their cash without much thought as to whether they need the things they buy.  However I think within the car enthusiast community perhaps there is a little more thought goes into it, with the aid of good (and sometimes poor) feedback from like-minded individuals to help steep through mass offerings.

We do live in an increasingly disposable society these days - have the latest thing, want it now, get rid, replace it, and so on it goes.  However part of detailing and car ownership is a bit of an antidote to that (for me anyway) as it's more about keeping hold of something for 3 to 4 years and keeping it as in best condition it can be, really enjoying it and looking after it, rather than chopping and changing every year or 2 or treating it with limited value.

Lol, reading between your lines, I think you must put me in the 'throwaway debt-ridden' category perhaps judging me on my level or type of detailing purchases but I also come from the buy with cash era (my car being an example of that) and do not spend beyond my means.   With regard to buying detailing stuff, every purchase I make is for a reason and good reason to me.  Each regular item in my detailing store has earned a place and many are long term investments (water filters, DA polisher, lances etc) . There is also another side to it - I do tests and review (independent - not on any payroll) products for a number of detailing companies at their request which means I have probably more 'stuff' than most.  Additionally I like to compare products such as waxes etc, to see the difference and how they perform and deliver on the car and how they stack up against each other and against the manufacturers' claims. But all with the aim of caring for the car/paintwork etc.  And that's how I choose to spend my hard earned cash.

But ETTO and always nice to be judged by strangers on the internet.

Hope not let you know when I use the stuff, I'm assured by more astute detailers than I on this forum that the items I've purchased are Mustard!

Nobody has assured you of anything, you asked for recommendations and members have taken the time to respond (btw always nice to say thanks when people made an effort to respond to requests for help, makes for a better forum).  If that's your attitude why bother asking forum members for advice or recommendations, try stuff and make your own mind up.

My word that's a sensitive response,  for sure not including you in that gullible comment. I was referring to your 'folks are capable of making a conscious choice on how they spend there cash' And think you miss the general tongue in cheek nature of many of my comments. Please bare that in mind. I'm sure the product recommended by yourself  (OD) and GTI? will be excellent, the results of which I will have great pleasure in sharing with the forum. With thanks to all.
No one's judging anyone here, you pays your money and takes your chance, so be it.

Not sensitive response really, there's just something about the tone of your posts referring to detailing and those who indulge in it that displays a certain disparaging attitude. Perhaps you don't read it that way.  I hope you like the wax, it's a decent enough product depending on your requirements.  It's not my personal go-to wax but it compares well to others tried.  Enjoy your facelift R, driving and detailing.

How very dare you attempt to use tongue in cheek comments and banter when discussing detailing products

My friend, window cleaner respect, I have been and still do my own, I doubt you use scrim anymore. Still have my kit, and do my own, ladders at 70 no problem! had a little cleaning contractor biz years back, one of several , long story and varied from Concorde to F1 and beyond.
