Title: Clarkson's Golf GTI on The Grand Tour
Post by: wesbar on 04 February 2017, 13:20: The final episode of The Grand Tour featured Clarksons Golf GTI vs James Mays BMW i3. Pitched as an old petrol vs new electric hatch segment. Was ok just for the footage of the Golf which is basically exactly the same as my car! (PP, CSG, DSG). Not sure if thats a good thing that we have the same taste!

Was quite suprised how well the i3 did in the drag race. Obviously the i3 was much quicker off the line but it did manage to hang for longer than I thought.

Me too, van drivers when they pull up alongside, people in petrol stations, work colleagues, neighbours and their visitors, it's mad! Afterall, it's only a hatch. Didn't get as many comments when I had my old Lotus and that was rather distinctive.

It was good to see the real-life demonstration of automatic cruise control. Not so good was the Apple Play text function. Looks like his GTi had optional 19" Santiagos.
