Title: Looking to get a new GTD, some questions
Post by: GTD22 on 28 October 2016, 18:39
Hi I'm going to order a new GTD and I'm wondering if anyone has any idea why keyless is standard on the 5 door but not even an option on the 3?

Another thing with keyless, is there the problem that Ford owners have with their cars getting stolen?

Thanks

Why you can't get a 3 door with keyless is a mystery, unless someone on here knows better!

Anecdotes abound about the vulnerability of keyless, but I've not seen any first hand experience of a break in or theft on here. No system is perfect and the thieves eventually catch up, but, as I understand things, although there is a way to crack keyless security, it is no easier than conventional remote locking.

Wouldn't be without mine and love push button starting.

The only thing that makes keyless easier to steal is the fact that you don't need a key to start it. Once the scumbags are in a keyless car they can somehow bypass the security on the ignition.

Thanks for the replies, over on the ST owners site there's loads of keyless cars getting nicked so I was a little worried that it was the same with VW but in the end I want a 5 door so I have no choice with keyless, have to have it.

I haven't been able to see a car with the sound and sport pack so I can't get an idea of what it sounds like, could someone with it point me in the direction of a video that has the closest to what it really sounds like because with videos on YouTube they all sound different.

Other options I was thinking of going with was high beam assist, carplay and possibly rear camera. I can't make my mind up between tungsten silver and onyx white.

The only thing that is putting me off ordering right now it the news of a facelift but like others I can get any definitive information on it.

You might get some different lights and possibly a different shape exhaust although how on a gtd I'm not too sure. Might also get gesture control inside. On the downside you might end up with something like what Skoda have done with the Octavia and have something plug ugly. I was in the same boat as you and I ordered now. I went for Tungsten so you should pick a different colour

There's some on youtube and I posted some videos of ours after we picked it up - if you look through my posts, don't have the link to hand.

Again thanks for the replies.

I spoke with a dealer yesterday and he said that the facelift should go on order in February but the performance Golf's may be a further few months down the line. He also said that the performance models will have the digital dash and a bigger screen with the climate and other controls in it and LED lights with solid rear LED's.

I'm not a fan of those changes to the interior so I have ordered a 5 door manual with carplay, rear camera, high beam assist and sound & sport pack. I couldn't make my mind up between oryx white and tungsten silver so I ordered limestone grey after seeing one in person.

That leads me on to some other questions, does carplay work with a Jailbroken iPhone and for people with a sunroofs, do they get any rattles over time? I'm on the fence as to whether or not to add it but rattles are the vain of my life in a car and to have one above my head would do my nut in.

Sadly my sunroof started to rattle in the closed position after a couple of years, but a little lubrication on the rear "tongues" that are visible when the roof is tilted does fix this - for a while.

Don't have a sunroof unless you want to stand on the seat and shoot rabbits thro it!

In the past two years Ive had two surgical operations and four separate treatments for skin cancer on my head.

No driver in the southern latitudes has a sun roof and we shouldn't either, impractical and downright unhealthy.

Just a gimmik for the "oh look at meeeeeeees"!

I'm not sure if the reason most people get the sunroof is for the 'look at me' because I like having a fixed glass roof because they don't rattle.

Sorry but I changed the order today and went for tungsten, I followed a gtd the other day to ask what colour it was at the traffic lights and he was nice enough to pull over and let me have a good look around it. To say the least I was sold on the colour.

This might seem like a stupid question but when using Apple car play can you connect another phone through Bluetooth for calls only?

Oh your certainly going to have some fun.
The handbook would make a good doorstop it has so many pages.
I bailed out at sixty something and now just look up things I want to know.

So far I haven't managed to connect two phones, but one will work anywhere in the front two seats which I discovered because I use the phone tray for a pen, sweeties, etc.
I haven't tried to charge the phone by laying it in the tray yet, something on my testing list.

You will certainly like the motor, superly quite engine with great flexibility, very comfortable seats and a infotainment system thats out of this world.
I just love driving mine.

Rather than start a new thread I thought it best to just ask in this one.

How long after ordering a car should the dealer take to give you a tracker no number? VE UK can't help me out without a tracking number but I don't want to bother the dealer if I'm being impatient and it should take a month or so.

I could really know if I'm getting a facelift car or not.

You should have it by now, I got mine the same day I ordered...

Whenever you get it, it won't make your car arrive any faster
It will however send your stress levels through the roof checking the tracker every day

You won't be getting a facelift model. You can't even order a facelift until march or April!

The only reason I want it is so that I can verify through VW UK if it is going to be a facelift or not.

Why are they saying that the current model will stop production on week 51 then? Anything after that is facelift.

Hi GTD22  -  how reliable is your info on wk51 being the last week for pre-facelift GTDs?

Thanks

No sure where else I heard it but I was also told it by a dealer. Makes sense as they are limiting orders now.

I'm guessing that after week 51 builds any other orders in the system won't get a build date until probably July 2017...

Really? I hope to god I get a current car, not overly enthusiastic about the facelift plus I have ordered all the parts for it.

The order books don't open for the facelift until March so you won't get a facelift model! Any order already placed now will current model year.

The problem is is that I have spoken to a few dealers and also VW UK and all come up with different stories. VW UK have told me that until I get my confirmed build week they won't know if it is going to be a facelift but that there is a good chance that it will be as they expect the current model to stop production before the end of year.

Can I ask how you know orders for the facelift won't start until March?

That it was from march onwards was in the VW launch of the facelift the other day.

Also, they have not announced facelifted GTD or R yet

I thought that they would be on sale from March so that would mean build weeks starting at the beginning of the year.

Why can't VW be more professional about sales, including their dealers which are some of the most useless I have come across and even their builder website has mistakes.

I contacted the dealer I ordered from yesterday and told them that if I don't have my tracking number by this evening I'm going to cancel the order. I made an appointment with the sales guy yesterday and when I turned up spot on time I was told he was on lunch and that he would ring me when he came back. Needless to say I have not heard off anyone yet.

I read "available to order" from March... which is different.

The dealers a franchises to Volkswagen UK and whilst VW UK can try and impose standards on them they are independent entities. You'll find some good, some bad and some mediocre. The website is down to VW UK...

So, did you cancel the order or was it an idle threat? The dealer has no control over whether or not you get a tracking reference once they have submitted the order, so you are threatening them with an action if they fail to provide you with something that is outside of their control.

Available to order from March with first deliveries proving June or July. You should get a tracker number with a provisional build week immediately after the dealer has placed your order.

VW UK told me that it is down to the dealer to get me the tracking number so there again is another instance of them being wrong, if your information is right. As well as their information about whether the car would be a facelift, if the facelift is going on order from March then there would obviously be no chance of my car being a facelift so why say that there is a good chance that it will be. As for the idle threat, it isn't and if they haven't got back to me by 'as stated' this evening I will cancel the order.

That is what I was originally told by the dealer when I was looking to place the order but after being told so many different people including VW UK that all I would like is my tracking order because VW UK say that they will be able to tell me for sure.

I'd say that if they say your car has a good chance of being a facelift and you haven't got a confirmed order yet that there is going to be a gap for retooling... simple as.

I'd find it unlikely that they'd have a 6 month production stoppage on a model, but stranger things have happened before.

You won't know until you get an order number and even then you won't know until the factory actually plan the production, which doesn't happen until a few weeks before they actually build it.

I was speaking to a colleague a few minutes ago and he suggested I try a dealer where he knows a one of the sales guys. He rang them and they have an order for a GTD confirmed build week 12/12 in tungsten silver, sport and sound pack and car net app but nothing else. If I don't hear back from the dealer by this evening I will be taking the car in the morning and hoping for a late Christmas or early new year delivery but the sales guy did say that it could well be as late as February delivery in which case I will wait until march for the new plate. Happy days.
