I currently have a Golf R on order and for well over 2 weeks to date the VW Tracker has shown Stage 3 Build Week Confirmed 01/08/16. Then beginning of last week I received an email from my VW dealer stating my car was already built and had left the factory. The email did not state the spec or model of my car, just that it was built and left the factory. To confirm if the details of the email was correct I went on to the VW Tracker to see if it had progressed to a later stage. But no luck, it was still showing Build Week Confirmed, except now the date was missing?
I have mentioned this on another thread on this forum recently and some others experienced something similar recently. However the point of the thread is to ask how accurate the VW Tracker has been for all of you on this forum and whether there is any point using it, if it is not as accurate as it makes itself out to be?
-
I ordered my Clubsport back on the 4th April and the tracker is showing stage 2, live webchat confirmed the build date on 29/08/16 but just had an email from the dealer saying that the build date will be 10/10/16 . It's a good job I'm not in a rush . The tracker is still on stage 2
-
I found the tracker to be accurate and reliable when tracking my order.
I've added a timeline of events below which may help: -
Order placed with dealer - 25th May
Build date confirmed via tracker on 3rd June as week commencing 27th June
Alert on 29th June from tracker to say car built and left the factory
Alert on 30th June from tracker to say car on its journey (at Emden)
Alert on 3rd July from tracker stating car on its final leg of journey (on boat)
Alert on 5th July from tracker stating car arrived in UK
Final alert on 8th July to say car at dealer
I rang the dealer on Monday morning (the 11th July) to tell them it had arrived, sales guy went away to check, and then called me back within the hour to confirm its arrival and agree collection dates.
Personally, I think the system worked well for me and the car arrived far earlier than expected.
-
It wasn't too far off for me but took a couple of days to update. Tweeting @vwhelpuk got information through a lot faster.
-
My GTE went from stage one to built in a matter of weeks. Turns out they found some stock with the same spec I wanted and gave me that.
Worst car I've owned to date, registered in September, broken down for the whole of November, returned first week of December, broke Xmas eve, returned mid Jan, broke again and we returned it to VW for a refund
-
Hopefully this does not happen to my Golf R when I get it. My current GTI PP is the best car I have ever owned to date. I would hate for my next car to tarnish my experience of VW cars.
-
I have had a bit of a time of confusion with my VW Dealer. I had an email about 3 weeks ago stating my car was already built and had left the factory, I found this odd as VW Tracker was stating Stage 3 Build Week Confirmed 01/08/16, which started this thread. Then a day or two later the date was missing from the VW Tracker so it just stated Build Week Confirmed without a date?
I then called my VW Dealer beginning of last week to see whether they had an update on the transit of my car. They looked on their screen and said sorry but the car was not built after all, but was meant to be built the week I contacted them so it will be leaving the factory by the weekend just gone at the latest. However my build week confirmed date was originally 01/08/16 which is this week, not last week as my VW Dealer was telling me?
The thing which is confusing me even more than ever, is the fact the VW Tracker originally stated my build week as 01/08/16 then the date was wiped from the Tracker so it no longer shows any date. I am now no longer sure if my build week is 01/08/16 anymore, I know the date provied is a week commencing date and the build can commence anytime this week if it is still 01/08/16?. But it is now Tuesday afternoon and there is no sign of progress from Stage 3 and as far as my VW Dealer is concerned my car would have already been built and on it's way. I will keep a close eye on the VW Tracker, but...
...What on earth is going on with the conflicting information I am given in regards to the progress of my car?

I'm in the same boat. I've spoken to VW a few times, and the build week is still down as this week, and they expect the tracker to change at any point up to and including Friday. Order tracker date commencing is blank, apparently that's a fault.
-
Good to see I am not the only one, but not good that we are both in this predicament. I promised I was not going to start pestering VW for info with this car, but if I don't see any progress on the build of my car this week I will be straight on the phone.
When it comes to getting accurate info from VW, I say "german efficiency"
-
Same here, i have been told but Vw that my build date is this week, but the tracker is blank, and has been for about a month..
-
I've spoken to VW again today, they say the car should be built this week as planned but then it's likely to be 6-8 weeks from completion to delivery?!
-
When I spoke to my VW Dealer in Exeter last week they told me it would be around 4 -5 weeks from completion to delivery.
-
The plot thickens... Spoken to someone else at VW today who seems to have dug a little deeper, the car was completed earlier this week and is awaiting quality control before leaving the factory!
-
I am still awaiting info on mine. The tracker is obviously working extremely accurately for you brettblade. I should hear back from my dealer today hopefully, but then going on the less than accurate info last few times I don't know whether to take what they tell me as 100% gospel truth?
-
nearly 3 weeks since I placed my order im still on base 2

The tracker is still at stage 3, the info I'm getting is via live chat. Would imagine the tracker will completely skip stage 4 and move to stage 5 at some point next week.
-
@Kelvyn29, what browser or device are you looking at to get the VW Tracker which looks like that? The tracker I am looking at, looks nothing like the screenshot. Also you may have a long wait. Mine went to stage 2 at around the same timescale then just sat there for a long time. Hope yours is quicker than it has been for some of us.
@Brettblade, Good news about your car, hope I get as detailed info about my car from my VW Dealer. What is the live chat you mentioned, where do I go to access it?

Using google chrome but is also the same with IE11. This is only part of the screen grab from that page, whats does your look like?
Im in no real rush as I can keep the Focus MK3 ST-3 until the Golf arrives i'm just impatient & want my new toy now
-
I am using Firefox, it looks like the older version of the VW Tracker with grey background (no image of the factory) and the tracker line is arrows along the middle third of the screen, not the top.
I am also getting more impatient with the lack of info from VW on my cars progress and like you I am also getting starting to get impatient. I was told late september delivery originally when ordered but the date was pulled forward. But I have a gut feeling it could be like my GTI which was delayed past the original predicted date. Hope I am wrong. Yet again it is lack of or more like conflicting info which starts to make the process frustrating
-
Just got an email from my VW Dealer stating they have record of my car as definitely being built and leaving the factory, and they can confirm it is built. They also said they will check out why the Tracker is only showing Stage 3 Build Week Confirmed as my car is definitely built. We will have to wait and see I suppose? If this is the case it looks like early September delivery.
-
Just spoken to our lease company handling it & shes spoken to the dealer who believes the car will be ready for me to collect 1st/2nd week September :)
-
Just checked the tracker & jumped to stage 3 and build week confirmwd but does not show the date.
-
The live chat is one of the contact options under "Contact Us" on the VW website - just give them your order number and they have access to far more detailed information.
On checking the tracker now (which incidentally doesn't look anything like the above one either), it has indeed skipped stage 4 and is now showing "In Transit".
I'm still hopeful of 1st Sep!
-
Welcome to my world. My tracker is still showing Stage 3 Build Week Confirmed. Even though when i emailed my VW Dealer a day or two ago they said my car was definitely built and had definitely left the factory? My VW Tracker is also showing no date, it is apparently a fault on the tracker. I suspect the tracker is properly broken at present unless someone can confirm otherwise that it is working? I did have a date on my Tracker about 3 or 4 weeks ago then it disappeared and that is how it has stayed ever since.
You may find you will have to keep up to date with your cars progress the old fashioned way this time by pestering your Dealer.
As a side note, I used the tracker for my current car when I ordered it 3 years ago and it worked a treat. But this year it looks like it is broke.

Some info from my Live Chat with VW UK in regards to the status of my cars build.
01. The Week Commence date of 01/08/16 is for a two week period not a single week. So it is actually a fortnight commence date in reality.
02. The average factory to dealer transit timescale for a car will be 4-6 weeks give or take some time for logistics and location in the UK. Although I was quoted 4-5 weeks for Exeter and someone else on this forum was quoted 6-8 weeks for South Yorkshire?
03. I can confirm the Tracker is broken (which is why the date is not shown). it is in the process of being fixed this present moment in time. So as a result don't bother to use it and use live chat instead. Just go to VW Uk website, Contact Us and select Live Chat as Brettblade original posted.
I was told it is possible my car is built going by my build week commence date, but no hard proof or facts whether it has or not. However my Dealer has told me they have it down as built and left the factory so I guess I will have to take their word on this occasion. They are usually pretty good. Just one hiccup with info recently which made me question it.
hope this info helps you guys, will keep you posted.
-
Yeah just spoke to online advisor
Sam
Thank you for waiting. I have been advised that your confirmed build week is week 35 which is the week commencing on 29/08/2016
Sam
You're welcome. I have also been advised that there have been a few technical issues with our online tracking system and the Web Team is trying to fix this.
-
No way, I spoke to Sam as well... Heh it's a small world!
If more of us tell them then maybe they will fix the damn Tracker.
@Kelvyn29: Sad to hear your build week is not until 29/08/16 but it will be worth the wait, I guarantee it. I had to wait twice as long as the originally predicted date when I bought my current GTI PP, but when I finally got it the extended wait was all forgotten.... Well that is until now with my Golf R on order.
-
My VW Tracker has just moved up to Stage 04 Build In Progress. Looks like they may have had a look at the fault on the Tracker?
The tracker states it takes on average 4 weeks to get to the dealer from Stage 4 onward. Lets hope this is the case as this would mean an early september hand over for the car.

The 6-8 weeks was on live chat, but on that particular occasion the agent must have made a number up, as from a later chat it transpired that the car had already been built at the time of the chat stating 6-8 weeks!

Car has just docked in Grimsby! Came in on the Thames Highway.

Still waiting for the 1st Sept, this just means there's now significantly less chance of it being delayed past the original target date!
-
Just spoke the supplying dealer he has said
"Car is due to be built next week, so should be here early to mid Sept"
-
More awesome news. I also have my VW dealer saying my car is built and left the factory and the VW Tracker saying it is Stage 4 Build In Progress so at least it is either built or being built? Mine should also be available for pick up by early to mid September. I am definitely going to make a day of the hand over. As soon as I know when the car will be available for hand over I am booking a day of holiday off.

Day?! I have the 1st and 2nd booked off work, and the 3rd and 4th booked off from any sort of sport. No dealership prep whatsoever!
-
I didn't even book off a day for my current car. It was raining on the Saturday I picked it up as well so just as well that I didn't. However the anticipation waiting for my Golf R is now getting like Xmas is coming in September. I will book the day near a weekend so I have more time to play with the car before going back to work. I have to keep holiday back for the Masters degree I am starting in September as well in case the workload gets too much and I need time away from work to catch up. Otherwise I would have booked more time off.
-
So tracker appears to be working & both online chat & tracker show build W/C 29th.
Just waiting to hear back from dealer as he still believes car is due in to the UK for early/mid september

Hi Kelvyn,
The car is in production now.
It then goes to checkpoint 8 for final quality checks and is then released to transport to bring to UK.
I would expect to see the car week one or two September with us.
-
BBC reporting a 5 day Golf build suspension at Wolfsburg next week, due to parts suppliers delays.
-
My Tracker details went overnight from build week confirmed to in Transit
-
Unfortunately the tracker is not working for me. My car has shown build in progress (Stage 4) for almost the past fortnight. It only changed to stage 4 just after I contacted the Live Chat to tell them it was not working and ask about the progress of my car. According to my VW Dealer the car is already built and left the factory which was reported over a fortnight ago as well.
-
have you tried a different web browser?
-
Have tried multiple different browsers on different devices.

I don't think it has made it to the dealership just yet.
I was down there chatting to a sales guy I know in passing earlier so decided I'd have a nose around the cars in stock just to check out prices.
There's a black R out back but no amazing Oryx ones tucked away!
-
Cheers for the heads up Exonian. It is getting like waiting for an Xmas which does not happen on a specific day and nobody actually knows when it will be, fairly frustrating! The fact the trackers is not working for me, makes it all the more frustrating. But hey it won't be long now and I'll have my car. It must be at least a couple weeks left to wait now before I should hear about it being delivered to the dealer.
@Exonian: I can give you a heads up when the car is at the dealer if you want to go over and have a look at it in your spare time.
-
I'll shortly be out of town for a couple weeks, Brendan.
You'll have probably collected it by the time I return
-
I doubt I will have it that quick. Failing that, i can always meet up at some point and let you have a root around my car. But it will be in broad daylight, and there will be no dodgy car parks or flashing of headlights to get other peoples attention, I don't want to give the wrong impression.

R's are all about being discreet!

Is that why the R Estate was released to provide more room in the boot for those who want to be discreet but need room to move...

Contacted my VW Dealer yesterday. They inform me my Golf R has the status of "Release to Port" on the their Tracker. This means it will not be too long now and my car will be here. What a wait it has been.. which has only been around 5months+ which in the scheme of things is not as long as some others on this forum have had to wait.
Will keep you posted and when i get a chance in a couple weeks hopefully, I will get pics of the car.

Awesome, out of interest what was you build week?
Mine still on step 3 awaiting to be built but dealer assured me its on the way to the UK & he should have it next week or the week after.
-
My predicted build week was 01/08/16 which was the build week confirmed shown on the tracker until it went wrong and the date disappeared several weeks ago. I have seen the build week confirmed screen on the tracker for a long time (even after I had info from my dealer saying the car was built?) and then after my live chat on VW due to the inaccurate info, the tracker changed and stayed on build in progress for the remaining weeks to date.
Cannot wait for the car to be in the UK and then delivered. Apparently it could be another week and then I should hear form my Dealer to arrange the pre-hand over meeting for paper work. Then after that it all gets real and the wait will be even more frustrating until hand over.
-
I think VW tracker is sh!te. When I got my current GTI more than 2 years ago it was accurate but now with the new GTI I have on order it's been awful. Mine was showing bw confirmed for 29th Aug and now it changed to build in progress last night even though it was supposed to be built already. Dealer told me handover would be last week of september-first week of october.
-
I understand your frustration about the tracker being awful at present. When I bought my current GTI 3 years ago it was accurate . But now the tracker is awful. Come on VW sort it out. Even my VW dealer said their tracker has a mind of it's own, sometimes it worked and other times it did not.

GeoBog my date shown on tracker was build w/c 29th august but dealer told me few weeks ago car was already in build.
They have said car is on its way to the UK now & hope to have me in it 1st/2nd week of september.
I have a similar spec to you on order, GTi in pure white, Manual, 3 door, 90% tint, camera, dyna audio, carnet
-
What's your tracking showing now? Mine is at step 4 now. Hope mine gets here by end of sept, I need to sort out plate retention & all before that. My tracker even shows me the wrong paint, I ordered plain black and tracker shows pearlescent black.
-
Its weird on my Volkswagen account it still says step 3 build week confired as 29/8 but if i put the order number in the tracker box its says step 4 "Your car is currently being built. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer"
But as said dealer has reassured me car is built and on its way.
Last email he sent on Wedneaday said
Hi Kelvyn,
Not arrived yet.
I am checking every couple of days and will be in touch as soon as the car hits UK port as I can then allocate a registration number.
-
My Tracker is showing stage 4 build in progress still. The car is at the port and on it's way to UK this week?
-
My VW Tracker has just jumped to Stage 5b "In Transit/Shipping". This may be due to me complaining again about the tracker not working? It seems that each time I state the tracker is not working to a VW employee or dealer the tracker suddenly moves up another stage. The timing is uncanny. Although build in progress taking almost month would be deemed as a little slow if it were true
Anyway my car is being shipped so I should hear form my VW Dealer very soon for sorting out all the dull stuff like paper work and cash.
-
Yes I think they may have sorted the problem. Had an email this morning that my car had moved to build week confirmed to19/9. Which I know from vw customer service is accurate.
-
Mine says confirmed for build on sli but tracker is yet to update to say build is confirmed. It's been like that for a week now.
-
Mine changed over night to Stage 6 arrived in the Uk, so hopefully not too much longer
-
Waiting to hear from my dealer but just chatting to the online adviser they said my GTI has been delayed even though the dealer recons car already on its way to the UK.
"Thank you for waiting. I appreciate your patience. I have contacted our Sales team to see if there are
any further updates and they have informed me that all Golf's that had an original build week between
weeks 34-37 have all been delayed by an extra week due to the recent Factory issues, which I can only
apologise for on behalf of Volkswagen. What our Sales team have informed me is that your vehicle
should hopefully start production early next week but if not, they can investigate further if needed.
The delays were caused by some supplier issues, which has mostly affected Golf R's, but production of other Golf models has been slightly delayed. However, those recent supplier issues have been rectified, so Volkswagen and the
Factory are doing everything they can to get the production line moving again and clear the backlog that
has been created, as we do want to get your vehicle to you as quickly as possible."
-
Wahoo! my car is now Stage 6 "In The UK" on the tracker. I am going in to the dealer this friday to pay for the car. So I may finally see my car soon. Hopefully it reaches my dealer by Friday so I can see it then but I don't hold out much hope. I suspect 4 days from Stage 6 to delivered to the dealer is a bit tight... But here's hoping!
-
Good news benbo
No news on mine yet
-
My lease r was due to be built WC 22/08. It is currently indefinitely delayed. Now considering cancelling and ordering something else. Looks like the R is the car being delayed. I have a good offer on an S3. Are the audis also suffering delays?

Good news brenbo

Just hold in there mate, it will be worth it no matter how long the wait ends up being. I will post pics as soon as I get some... or should I say as soon as I manage to clap eyes on it for the the first time. It has been so long I almost forgot I ordered a car. Out of interest which golf and spec have you configured "Kelvyn29"?

Yeah ive just extened the lease on the ST until beg oct, shame as we are doing a trip to wales on Monday for a week & would have been a nice run in period for the GTi.
My spec was
GTI
Pure White
3 Door
Manual
Performance Pack
90% Tint
Dynaaudio sound pack
Reverse Camera
Car-Net Connect app
Whats your spec?
-
Stage 7 for mine this morning, should be picking the CS up on friday.

@ Kelvyn29: the spec of the car I have on order is as follows
Golf R
Oryx White
19" Pretoria Alloys
DCC
Dynaudio
Nav Pro
Climate Windscreen
Advanced Telephone Prep
Car Net App Connect
Carbon Mirror Caps
Winter Pack
Rear View Camera
Rear Side Airbags
5 Year Warranty
Service Plan...
... and a Boot Liner.
I currently own a GTI PP with similar spec to one you have on order. I can guarantee it is an amazing car. I am coming up to 3 year's ownership next month so felt like a change to a Golf R to see what the hype was about. The GTI PP is a fantastic car you will enjoy it when you finally get your hands on it. If I had not ordered my Golf R I would happily stick with my current car (GTI PP) until the MK8 was released.
@ Aidey: How long did it take to go from Stage 6 to Stage 7 on the tracker? Is it the predicted 10 days or is it much quicker for the car to be delivered to the dealer in reality?
-
Brenbo, it was stage 6 last week, changed to stage 7 today, about a full week
-
@Bennbo Nice car, friend has something very similar.
Yes looking forward to a change had Fords all my life as a daily car
Mines just gone to stage 5.
Your car has been built and has now left the factory. On average it takes 4 weeks from build for this model to reach your local Volkswagen Retailer.
Does it really take 4 weeks to arrive?
-
Mine changed to in transit as well. I believe it took 1-2 weeks last time i got my current GTI.

From personal experience, It can take around 4 to 5 weeks, but if you are lucky you may get it quicker. I can confirm the car I have on order has taken around the 4 to 5 week mark and I still have not seen it yet. As a rough guide, apparently my Golf R was built at beginning of August dependent on whom I should believe. It is now well in to September, still no sign of it but it is getting very close. The speed you get your car can depend on your dealers allocation as well.
@GeoBog: My Order went to In Transit last Week and it is now showing "In The UK awaiting Clearance and Transportation". On this Stage it claims it can take 10 days to get to the Dealer. I so hope this is not the case. I am sure it was far quicker than this last time at this stage.
As stated earlier going in to pay for the car on Friday and hopefully there is a slim chance it will be there on Friday. But I suspect it will not be the case and car will not reach the dealer until next week.

Another update from lease company which reflects the tracker
Hi Kelvyn
Just to update you, the car is now in transit to Emden port for shipping to UK.
As soon as it arrives we can produce the finance documents.
Will keep you posted.

Tracker has just told me Stage 7 Car is at dealer. When i arrived at dealer to pay for car expecting to see the car, dealer said its not arriving until monday all going well. Have now paid for car and am now awaiting wednesday to come around for handover of my new Golf R

How unfortunate is that Brendan! Just missed seeing it in the flesh.
Still, not long to wait now
-
No worries mate, can come in to exeter just for you to have look around if you like. Excitement really starting to kick in now. Also managed to reduce the price another couple hundred quid and get premium mats thrown in, awesome
-
I'll be working a silly long night shift on Wednesday unfortunately Brendan, otherwise I'd have loved to have seen the car fresh from the dealership.
Well done for getting a bit of discount that late on in proceedings, how on earth did you manage that?!!
-
My father used to be a procurement manager, so his wheeler dealer tricks of the trade must have rubbed off on me. Also I asked whether they would have the premium mats in stock should I want to get some on hand over day. But they said they would throw them in for free. However on day of order they would not. I guess persistence is the key. Maybe I should take up ordering other peoples cars on their behalf for a living
The car should be at the Dealership on Monday, should you want a crafty look before or after work Andy. I will also try to post some pics when I get the car.

I now finally have my Golf R. All I can say is WOW! I will post a full comparison soon between my old GTI PP and new Golf R. I will also post pics soon. However, when I got in it and drove off the forecourt it felt like I had been driving it for years it was so refined and comfortable to drive it felt like there was no other car which I would feel more comfortable driving than a Golf R. The gear changes were silky smooth, and the suspension on Comfort is so soft, without wallowing or affecting the overall ride on corners. Race mode also has a great setup and feels much stiffer on the suspension while giving you a much more aggresive throttle response. Yet I found it was also much more useable than the Sport mode on my GTI PP which felt almost like it was all or nothing in comparison.
I have also lucked in with the Tyres on my Golf R. I discovered to my delight VW had kindly shod my wheels in Continental Sport Contact 5's not bridgestones. I am unsure of how these tyres will fair compared to the Bridgestone Potenzas, as I have only ever had Potenzas. But I am sure some of you will be able to fill me in with your own experiences of these tyres.
The drive home from the dealership was great. This car is quick yet so refined it felt much more relaxed and effortless than the speed I was going.
As mentioned earlier I will give you a full run down on how I find the Golf R compared to my old GTI PP soon.
-
Congrats Brenbo. Sounds like a great car.
-
Good to hear the handover went well Brendan and a big congrats now you've finally got your mitts on the R.
I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the cars and how they compare.
A good few of us have gone from GTI to R and GTD to R and it's always good to hear what people think.
I'll pop down and have a nose at your GTI at the weekend if I get chance, assuming they're putting it on the forecourt.
Did they have their demo/Showroom ClubSport in yet? Be keen to see one of those in the flesh.
-
Thanks for the kind words. I suspect if there was a Clubsport around at the dealership I would have noticed it with the extra body kit on it, even though I didn't get to walk around and have a good nose at cars yesterday. I am aiming to sit down over the next day or two and write my thoughts on the GTI vs R now I have driven both. My GTI PP was an amazing car and I never understood what people mean't when they said it was great 8/10ths of the time in regards to performance. Well that was until i got in my R. Now I completely understand. I coated my wheels with C5 wheel armour yesterday, so my back feels broken now. Time to recover I think.
The Carbon Fibre Mirror Caps really do finish the look of the car. It is real carbon fibre, not vinyl and you really can see it, as it's that noticeable. There was one potential fault with the car yesterday. The reverse camera didn't come out later in the day when I put the car in reverse. This happened a few times in a row then I managed to get it to activate and it has been Ok ever since when i have tested. Will keep an eye on that.
I have to drive the car to work today, for all the prying eyes to have a look at the car and say I am paid too much and how little they are paid in comparison. It really is quite a bore when you have people at work going on all the time about how little they are paid and valued compared to you. I keep wanting to say to them get educated and/or change your job and save your money rather than keep on at me about it. I am paid not much more than they are if at all, it is just a case that I save every penny and don't drink etc,. The car is my vice so the speak.
Will post pics and comments soon
-
I'm sure most of us on here get similar comments about our cars.
I try and keep mine as low profile as possible and rarely tell many people when I'm changing cars but as usual the jungle drums will spread word and I get all sorts of people comment on the car. There's the obvious sniping from certain quarters, probably those that spend £20+ a day on cigarettes and skive off half the shift in the smoking area where all the gossip happens. Then there's the really random comments such as only this morning when I was helping an agency driver who's not even based at my office with his fuel paperwork. I'd just popped out to fill up the kettle for a colleague who was busy and saw the driver mystified by the paperwork, I quickly told him how to fill it in and out of the blue he said "ere, you drive a sporty car I'm told, watch your speed on the way home as there's an unmarked white Evo parked up down the road..."
I stood there and wondered how on Earth he'd know what car I had, so people obviously do talk about such things when you're not around but to hear it from a guy who only pops in once in a blue moon seems really random!!
He's not the first person who doesn't even work at the office to mention it but certainly the most unexpected.
But yes, turn up in a new car and suddenly you're surrounded by life experts who have immediately analysed your entire financial position and will rarely have anything positive to say to your face never mind behind your back.
That's forgotten the second you sit behind the wheel and all the controls fall to hand, the beautiful blue dial lighting glows back at you and a smile spreads across your face...
-
I know what you mean with the jungle drums and people you are least expecting to know you have a flash car making comments. It also gets me how they instantly think we are going to be reckless and speed all the the time. But anyway rant over, I have my flash car now and it's awesome stuff. I cannot get over how great it looks. I saw the sun shining on the mirror caps this lunch time and you can see the carbon fibre weave shining up. I cannot get over how silky smooth the gear changes are. When I had my GTI PP as new the gears were quite tight and clunky. Then over time they loosened up a bit. But my Golf R has a really silky smooth gear change. I am also impressed with the DCC and Nav Pro MIB 2 unit. It really is a big improvement over the MIB 1 unit I had in my GTI PP.
-
The gear change was one of the first things I noticed that felt better on the R too.
I won't drag this off topic anymore though but it is good hearing people's thoughts when they finally collect their shiny new cars.
-
Seems like the tracker is pretty accurate now.
Now showing as arrived in the UK, just as i was checking had a email from dealer adving car has landed and has now registered it, now arranging for transport to dealership.
Not long now

Great news, expect you are getting excited now?
I have now had my Golf R a few days and I am still in awe. It is like all the best bits of my GTI PP while addressing the bits the GTI PP was not so hot on to provide the complete package.
-
Yeah cant wait bud.
Had a email from lease company car is ready to collect tomorrow
Glad to hear your loving the r, i really wanted 1 but the extra company car tax was just getting a big silly.
EDIT: Ignore the above incorrect info, car arrived at dealer today & they are going to prep it ready for me to collect Friday Morning :)
-
i suspect if I was buying an R on lease I would have had to think about. However I bought it with cash purchase and fairly good return (Part Ex) on my GTI PP so I took the plunge while the going was good. At slower speeds there is not much to tell the difference between a GTI and R except for the lack of tramping etc, in wet conditions. However when you get a chance to get in to the higher rev range the car starts to show how much more it can do. I still miss my GTI PP it was a really awesome car. It's just my R seems to be almost the same except it has resolved the minor niggles one might have with the GTI, which to be honest there are not really that many if at all as it was such a cracking car.
However I am glad I got the R, as where the GTI is 8/10ths of being perfect in my opinion the R provides the other 2 to be the full 10/10ths perfect.
Enjoy your car mate when you get it.
-
Thanks bud, i'll get a few pics up when I get it & a review comparing it to the Focus MK3 ST it replaces.

10am Friday
