Our GTD has only got ~500miles in it & ive just noticed this morning that the aircon is not as ice cold as I'd expect for a brand new car...
Has anyone else experienced this with a new mk7?
I know I've heard that new cars often aren't supplied with the aircon system fully charged.
I'm sure the dealer will sort it for us FOC given we've only had it a couple of weeks!

Just check it's not on Eco mode on the driving menu first.

I read that the Mk7 climate control only switches on the air conditioning when it is needed. This is more efficient and helps fuel economy.

Pretty sure it was on its normal setting & then we selected the max a/c button & dialled the temp right down?...

We had ours set on 20'C, driving over to the Lakes yesterday, and it was decently chilly - a little too chilly at times! Didn't seem anything wrong with the cooling capacity at all. I have heard a few comments, though, about the cooling power of current VAG cars.
Have to say that no car I've had since has matched the ability of my Golf GTTDi Mk4 to maintain 22'C all the time, whatever the weather.

Hmm- I'm not convinced by it. Will have to call the dealer I think

My black GTI took about 3 minutes to get cold earlier after sitting in full sun for 5 hours.
Have a word with your dealer about your car if it's not working very well.

You pressed the 'set up' button and checked the setting on the infotainment screen?
-
Yes I believe so...
Have only driven the car in Normal (& Sport briefly ) so far, and in normal I'm sure it showed the A/C as operating in 'normal' mode when I went hunting through the menus

It should be icy cold. You'd definitely notice it within a couple of minutes if you had it on full blast in a car that's been parked in the sun for a while. I was convinced I had a similar issue with my MK5 GTI many years ago and the dealers thought I was bonkers, they said it was fine. Eventually I persuaded them to check it out properly and it turned out it was leaking gas...

Popped out midday, car been sitting in direct sunlight and melting inside and within 3 minutes the GTD was cold the to point that had to lift the temperature up to make comfortable.
Made a point of timing it as saw this post earlier in the day.
My wife has a habit of turning off the A/C on the knob so even though temperature is set to 16 or Lo it does not really get cold, just cool, so maybe the A/C is turned off?
There is also an A/C setting in the car menu where you can select the power of the output, so another thing to check if not icy cold in a few minutes.

Most helpful cheers!
A/C was definitely on & selected to Max A/C on the switch.
I think il be asking the dealer to re-charge it

I'm an A/C engineer by trade, domestic/commercial, not automotive, all I know is they use R134a.
There's a few things you can check for a full charge of refrigerant.
The air temperature difference (between air on and air off the coil) should be around 10-15degC. e.g outside temp (or cabin temp if in re-circ mode) 20degC, air off should be between 5-10degC. This will differ from type of system/refrigerant type etc etc.
There is also a nickname/term we use called "sweating back" which indicates a full charge of gas, without the use of/attachment of gauges.
Whilst in cooling mode, the suction pipe from evaporator to compressor (larger diameter pipe) will be ice cold, will condensate and form water on its surface, (depending on RH) but not freeze/form frost.
Not sure where the suction pipe is exactly on the GTD, will check this later for you.

Its just to the left of the oil dipstick, changes from flexible hose to aluminium then runs under the coolant tank.
