So following on from the 'what have you done to your MK7' thread. Here is a thread showing just how dirty your mk7 is in this lovely (horrible) British weather.
Here is a few of mine to start

Mine looks quite respectable on all sides apart from the back, it's absolutely filthy there!

Golf rears are dirt magnets!

Is this allowed? My OH has warned me against looking at filthy images online

So it seems, black is still the best colour though!

Can't argue with that.

Golf rears are dirt magnets!
It's always been the same. This is my previous Mk2 after a couple of days. Note the 'tide' line on the corner of the rear bumper.

-
The flat part of the boot is an absolute magnet for dust and sh!te.
Mine's been in the garage mostly but still looks filthy on the flat part.
-
It's clever aerodynamics. Turbulent air will suck crap up off the road and stick it to the car regardless, but note how the dirt tends to be attracted to the center of the tailgate, therefore keeping the outer road lights cleanish.

Nice to know they are carrying on the tradition of the dirty boot lid and bumper shelf through the model evolution. My Mk5's and 6 were just as bad.
-
I'm not sure I like this thread  - I can see it getting really messy
-
Mine is shocking at the minute. Given I'm a hobby detailer it's particularly bad!

Pic's don't do it justice, it's actually brown! At least I'm safe in the knowledge that it's well protected with SiRamik Glass Coat (paint and wheels) under there so a simple foam, 2 bucket wash and dry and it will be spik and span again (all being well it will be done on Sat).

It's amusing to see what you lot consider to be dirty. You should see my Passat at the moment. I'd take a photo if I could find it, it's so camouflaged out here in the sticks.

Seek that Passat out and photo it.
My R's too new to have had the chance to get really dirty and OCD simply won't allow me to let it get that bad. The worst my Mk6 got was when we had the Saharan rain earlier this year. Cheating I know, but if we're allowing Mk2's and Passats on here then here's the Mk6 at it's filthiest! - this thread needs some dirt:

If I have time before I have to wash it tomorrow. We are going away for the weekend. First time on our own in about 7 years. I'm not sure I'll know what to do.

Do what my other half and I end up doing on rare child free occassions - argue. The pressure to enjoy ourselves in those few precious hours is too much
It'll all come back to you, once the kids are a dot in the rear view mirror.
Forget the car, enjoy your child free weekend Simon (and mrs dubber)

Mine is so filthy at the minute (live well in the country) that I'd be embarrassed to post a picture. Really need to sort it out at the weekend.
-
Personally have always been in the why bother trying to clean it in the winter so my Pure White is really a nice grey at the moment and is likely going to stay that way.
If do actually clean it, usually when wife moans clothing is getting dirtied, then you really can see how dirty it actually is as huge swathes of white appear
So white is surprisingly a good colour as it does camouflage the dirt quite well and far better than my 2 previous black cars which always looked terrible when dirty.
-
Mine hasnt been washed for weeks because it has rained every weekend. Off all next week though so it will be geeting the works as long as it stays dry.

That's the point of this thread - posting a pic of your dirty car. Come on get pics up of your shameful motors.
Mine's the dirtiest it's been since I got it in Sept. Bit dark to photo now (it being black and all) so might post a pic tomorrow although the current rain might have cleaned it by morning.

3 weeks since the last wash - little things like kids, job, life, rain, etc, keep getting in the way! It's not too bad atm, but still pretty dirty by my standards. Was hoping to give it a clean today but events have conspired against me. Will have to live with the grime a while longer
Here it is in it's filthy squalor....

Walked out of my local curry house last night to be met with a wonderful sight.
A gleaming oryx white 5 dr R, sporting Cadiz wheels.
It looked amazing under the street lights. The driver then obliged us and floored it.
Small thing I know but it cheered me up for the long stagger home.
It just goes to show that there really is no excuse to have a filthy car, no matter the weather.
Over to you

Haha. If you've found a way to keep your car clean at all times through winter, good luck to you (and the owner of the Onyx R). I look forward to seeing daily pic updates of your never dirty car........
-
Can't do that just yet as I've sold my A3 and don't get my GTI until March.
I could post a pic of my disgustingly filthy Transit van but I don't think that would be appreciated on here
You're absolutely right though, trying to maintain a clean car in this country is nigh on impossible unless you are a complete OCD nerd :nerd:

March is a good time to get a new car, most of the worst of the winter out of the way, and just in time for a spring detail.

Just a few hours work needed there
-
Bec, that's clean for round here. It's let down by the finger prints on the tailgate tho'. For that reason I'd have to wash it and start layering the filth all over again.

Haha, Simon I shall come and live near you then, in the comfort it will look cleaner than most.
Don't mention the fingerprints! Needless to say they are NOT mine, and there is no excuse as the family have been trained in the approved method of closing the boot lid using the inner door pull. I know who is responsible. He shall remain nameless. I was tempted yesterday to smudge some dirt over the handmarks to hide them. But I've decided to keep them as a badge of shame (plus don't want to risk rubbing grit into the paintwork, which is still buried somewhere beneath the filth), lol.
-
If the dirty car wasn't bad enough, when I got out at work this morning, there was chewing gum stuck to my boot sole and gum is now welded to the car floormat. At least it's my winter mats but still!
-
That should come off with steam. Holding it over the kettle and scraping away at it when it's softened should shift it.

No.

Didn't think so.
I just thought you might have been tired from your long drive

I am tired and it won't be getting washed today, tomorrow maybe, but it might even have to wait another week for a wash, but it will survive.
-
I can't believe you actually used your rear wiper.
I'm not sure which sends my nerves into spasms the most - the blade scraping grit across the screen or the horrid stripes of filth that run down the back of the car from where the screen wash runs.

-
I think that was accidental mr Ex.
No way Rebecca would have used that rear wiper intentionally
-
Mines in a right mess too. Nearly 1700 miles since it's last wash. I was going to do it today but it's pouring down so it will probably have to wait another week.
Under the dirt is a lot of protection so I'm not worried about it but it would be nice to have a shiny car again!

There could be an awful lot of hail Mary's coming from that direction today!

That's the secret really, protect the paint and then try not to disturb the dirt that lands on there so it doesn't scratch or wear away the coating until you can give it a proper bath.
It is depressing looking at a dirty car but at this time of year it's a losing battle.
A bit of winter filth gives the car a mean and business like look - or so i've been trying to convince myself all these years

I held off using it for the whole week practically, but by then the rear screen was opaque, and I wasn't going to drive for 5 hours yesterday (with daughter in car) on various motorways without being able to see what's behind me (more often than not, a BMW driver ). Rear view mirror is pretty useless if you can't see out the glass! Safety before beauty.
I've embraced the salty stripes. Once it's that dirty it just becomes a mission to make it look as bad as can be. If you can't beat it.......

I agree it does look good like that. It wears it's dirt well.
However the sun came out for a brief moment so I've done a quick (for me) wash.

I must be mad as I need to drive for 50 miles later so it won't be quite as clean as that soon but that's the fun of a black car. I'll never intentionally have anything else.

Ok I'll admit since I got the Jag I haven't spend much time cleaning/detailing the golf, but as the Jag is broken again I have been spending some quality time with the R and decided it needed a very very good clean

Ok I'll admit since I got the Jag I haven't spend much time cleaning/detailing the golf, but as the Jag is broken again I have been spending some quality time with the R and decided it needed a very very good clean
Looks great!

I cleaned the front as well....just in case anyone thought I stopped half way lol

Superb.
Jag sounds like a nightmare. Lavish your time on and on the R.

Yeah the Jag is ridiculously poorly build. It failed to start the other day 3 times. Now on warranty claim 20 in 9 weeks. I have handed it over to a lawyer now. I want a replacement, or I'm gonna shove a stick up their ass. 😜

Holy moly that's unreal, not good enough.
I'm sure your glad you kept your R now, especially looking like that

Yeah very glad. I doubt I'll get rid of it even if I do get a replacement car. It's too much fun!
