Title: DSG Paddle Retro Fit
Post by: JB GTI on 09 July 2015, 21:14
Right. Seeing as Booth11 and myself completely hijacked Exonion's " I Blame You Lot" post I will start a new one as we have dragged his post way off topic.

We were discussing replacing the fairly tame flappy paddle DSG shifters with these.

(http://i1295.photobucket.com/albums/b632/Jlb01/image.jpg1_zpscglkmgkf.jpg) (http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/Jlb01/media/image.jpg1_zpscglkmgkf.jpg.html)

We have found a site in Germany that can supply several variations on the same theme from here

http://www.cars-equipment.com/www/en/shop/shift-paddles-3/oem-8v0951523inz-audi-rs-flat-bottom/

Next thing is. Has anyone ever done this mod and if so how hard was it and does it require coding with VCDS.
Thanks in advance

Nice one JB

Not that it matters but I think car-equipment.com are based in Czech Republic.

Mr Ex seems to think they would just be essentially plug and play without out requiring coding?  Hope so.

Really like those, think I'll go for these ones as I like the big paddles on the M4. There's an instruction manual here too, gonna guess the ones your looking at is similar?

I am interested, but those still look short, the S2tpp ones look good, but what a price, have consider some stick on ones, but feel they will not be a premium feel. Somebody needs to make longer, good looking, reasonably priced shifters.

I doubt the Audi paddles will fit the the GTI wheel tbh, they look like a different fitting:

Such a shame if they are different fitting which the ebay pics do suggest.

The ones Neil suggested are very similar to the ones I looked.  They are quite nice but look a bit flimsy, less oem and I much prefer the squatter design of the Audi (though not as squat as the standard VW ones).  Needs further investigation.

Cheers for the link.

Some of them (the massive silver ones at end p.4) are   Tbh, I don't like any of them much, all a bit crass for my taste.  Miight have to compromise if there is nothing more subtle available  :undecided:

I'm a big fan of OSIR stuff, might even get a few carbon bits when i'm feeling flush!

The paddles they did for the mk5/6 would be my choice without doubt if they ever did them for the mk7.

That's more like it   Although I again prefer the OSIR Audi ones linked at the bottom of the page.  Maybe I should have bought an Audi instead

OSIR stuff is always quality and you get what you pay for IMO.  If the Audi ones are a no go, then these would probably be next favourites so far. Just need to make them for a Mk7.  I have just emailed OSIR to ask if they will become available for the 7, unless anyone already knows?  I'll let you know what they say.

Had a reply from OSIR to my email enquiring about DSG paddle shifters for the Mk7.  They don't specifically mention them but have said they "have a whole bunch of fantastic new products coming out in the next month or so for the Golf Mk7". They will email me as soon as everything is released.   So watch this space......

OSIR was the first place I looked as the mk6 extensions were really nice and I think they fastened over the stock ones with a grub screw.

The paddles need to be tactile and sturdy for me, the only time I use them is when I'm giving it some so as I'm clicking through the gears I don't wanna be worrying about them falling off.

Yeah, they've got to be substantial which is why stick on ones are a no-no.

If OSIR do bring out Mk7 paddle shifters in coming weeks I hope they are sufficiently different to the Mk6 ones which are a bit too stubby.

Hoping also that the OSIR Mk7 goodies include a dead pedal footrest, as if their other ones are anything to go by, it should be a thing of beauty, but mega ££££ no doubt.

They already do a mk7 one:

I wish i'd seen it before i got the one from China tbh but it's still decent, if i do decide to get a few OSIR goodies i'll just sell this one on for a few quid.

There's one about  that looks like an exact OEM match to the pedals, is that teh Chinese one? I'd rather have one that looks OEM.

Yeah, that's the one I've bookmarked and was intending to buy, but I do like the OSIR one.  Hmm, decisions, decisions!

Instructions for changing the paddles are here

Although I'm not so sure about their warning

"In certain driving situations the S2T Performance Paddle Shifters may
cause interference with the headlamp and windshield washer levers in
some vehicles. ECS Tuning recommends that the headlamp high-beam
function and the operation of the windshield washer system should only
be used while the steering wheel is in its straight upright position."

^^^ Well I guess ECS have to cover their arses from the citizens of the nation that sues companies for the slightest excuse following calamities caused their own idiocy (McDonalds coffee spills, Audi auto transmissions, the huge essays on the sidewalls of tyres and probably the bloody annoying yellow logo on the sun visor too spring to mind)
Title: Re: DSG Paddle Retro Fit
Post by: p3asa on 16 July 2015, 17:11
True but I read it as being that the paddle could physically hit the stalks which would be worrying.

I've never taken too much notice of DSG paddles (for obvious reasons) but I see where you're coming from now.
If they're hinged at the base then yes, any extension is going to mean the furthest point from the hinge is nearer to the wheel or stalk depending on which way it swings through the arc (I'm assuming you pull it toward you?)

Maybe worth pinging ECS an email if you're seriously considering the paddles.
