Enhanced specification for Golf GTD and GTI
01 June 2015
We’re improving the standard specification on Golf GTI and GTD, making these models even more attractive
Enhanced specification for Golf GTD and GTI VW0634-15
VW0634-15
We’re adding some great new options to standard spec on all MY16 Golf GTD and GTI models, making them even more attractive than their competitors.
To support this offer, we’re promoting the Golf with marketing activity worth £1 million.
All units built from week 22 (starting 25 May) onwards will come with the following options, worth a fabulous £1,515 to the customer, as standard:
Discover Navigation – £750
Winter Pack – £400
Keyless Entry – £365
These items have been automatically added to all orders in the pipeline that will be built from week 22 onwards. Most of these customer deliveries should reach your sites from late June.
MY16 GTD or GTI orders with one (or a combination) of these options will consign at the lower price (ie excluding the option cost). Please make sure this saving is passed on to the customer.
The Golf GTD Estate was launched with these options included as standard.

If you go on the configurator, its says winter pack , than below it it also says winter pack with leathers, im pretty sure that's wrong.
-
There used to be two options:
Winter Pack
Winter Pack with Leather (ie you chose the leather interior)
You now get one of those 'for free' depending on if you chose leather seats or not.
No avoiding keyless.
<BW22 =

If you go on the configurator, its says winter pack , than below it it also says winter pack with leathers, im pretty sure that's wrong.
The configurator does not give you the options for Keyless, Winter packs and DNS 6.5" Screen as these are standard on the GTD/GTI from BW22 onwards.
For the R, Winter packs are not standard, nor is Keyless, nor is DNS. Therefore you have a choice of 2 Winter Packs depending whether you choose Leather or stay with the standard Race Cloth.

Thanks for the info evo
And the fabulous offer for those buying an R is........?
Must be trying to shift those GTIs, the streets will be flooded with them soon
-
I was just going to make a post saying i just had a call from my lease company/dealer saying about these changes and thats whats been holding my order up....
I ordered NAV and winter pack so ive asked him to go back to them and ask for some more extra's (dynaudio)
if they can sort something without delaying it any further that is!!
-
Bloody good marketing, that!! Shame they have already put the prices up to cover these " Freebies "

Alas, not me!

im even more excited for my car now knowing ill be getting these freebies

Story of my life Mme B!
I ordered two years too early
All I got for free was a six month wait
-
Winter Pack – £400
Just a small correction.
Winter Packs have never been £400.
£250 with leather and £360 with Cloth for the R and was the same previously for both the GTI/GTD.

Monsieur Ex, that's why you should never, ever order the first off the line of a new model. Wait till the teething issues have shown their ugly face and for the (not quite, cough, cough) 'freebies' to roll in
Mind you, doesn't always transpire, still waiting for my R freebies  I suppose the Tech Pack was a very small sweetener

That's right. And with leather having heated seats as standard, all you were getting for your £250 (when specced with leather), was heated washer jets which are next to useless

Winter Pack with leather
Winter pack including headlight washers (mandatory with Xenons), heated front seats (standard with leather), heated windscreen washer jets and low washer fluid warning light.
I found the heated washer jets quite useful. You also get low washer fluid warning light. I must admit £250 is rather a lot for these two items.

Low washer fluid light is on any car that has xenons - part of the regulations that cover them say you have to have it.
So you are only getting heated washer jets for your £250

Can't say I've ever missed the heated washer jets. The low fluid warning is handy, especially as the bloody annoying headlight washers use so much screenwash (and make a mess) to the point where I do always carry extra sceenwash in the boot, along with quick detailer and micro fibres (for bird poo emergencies) plus a host of other car related junk. Ever prepared  :embarrassed:
I really must pull that headlight washer fuse

I ordered my new GTI last week, and suspected this might come to fruition having been avidly reading this site since starting to do my research.
When I rang the dealer this morning they said they would confirm back to me. I'd ordered the Winter Pack but not the nav or keyless, and when they called me half an hour ago, they confirmed these were now all included, but also mentioned that the car price has increased by £500 on June 1st. Has anyone else heard this? I'm trying to get my £380 refunded for the Winter Pack.
-
Garage have confirmed they got it wrong re. the price rise, so £380 coming back to me when I collect the car in September. Good news
-
Good news. I ordered winter pack and keyless so hopefully the lease costs will reduce a bit. Feeling pretty lucky right now.
-
I would doubt it

can any of you guys check the track your website to see if its working please ?

As said on the other thread, yes it's working ok
-
mine still not working, so was just checking if other people were having same problem. thank you though
-
Well just tried it again a few times and it's working ok for me, but don't know about for others
-
Has anyone got a link/info to the Discover Navigation (DNS) system that will now come as standard ?
Will it definitely be the new 6.5"screen on all cars ? or the old 5.8" one.

All Performance Golfs will have a 6.5" CMS or DNS Screen. So says the Configurator.

Anyone got a pic of the 6.5 screen??

Plenty of pics if you look at the online brochure for the ' New Passat ' and Polo?

Just looked on the configurator. Noticed that aswell as these freebies they've made Tornado Red a cost option for colour now too. With Black being the only free colour. They didn't market that one as well
Also the Lapiz Blue on the R has gone up to £610 over the rest of the metallic colours which remain at £550. Interesting...
-
Speaking to somebody recently where their company only allow the basic standard car spec with no option choices.
So they are stuck with glossy plain black now.

The charge for TR showed up on the configurator a few weeks back. Strange decision! As is the slight increase for Lapiz. Who can second guess what goes on in VW land

Non metallic black looks awful, very flat and the very worst for showing swirls
-
It would be interesting to know how many cars VWAG actually sell in that horrible black.
There must be a market for it somewhere perhaps there are thousands of utility vehicles trundling around Germany with it instead of the previously used plain grey.

Funny thing is when I was ordering my car yesterday the dealer said there was no charge for Tornado Red, and he reduced the price as he thought I wanted white, I wasn't gonna correct him lol

Quite probably.
My mate has a mk7 GTD in standard black. I did ask him what possessed him to choose that colour. His response was that he was too tight to pay out for deep black pearl on his lease deal. He went for complete base spec to keep the cost as low as poss.

Also an added optional extra is "90% window tinting from the B pillar back" at £95. Looks kinda cool. My salesman is gonna hate me I think

I don't think the MK7 rear windows are as dark as the MK6. I could hardly see anything lying in the rear seats of my Mk6 if I looked through the rear windows but with the Mk7 I feel you can see a lot more so I wonder if they deliberately changed the %

I had to glance through my rear side window today to see if something was on the back seat, but could clearly see it. I've always wished they were a tad darker tbh. I was hoping the mk7 had at least the same standard % tint on the rears. Hope they are not too much lighter in standard form. 95% would be too dark for me on a black car. Alright on white though.
-
My Mk6 was black so maybe that gave me the impression the windows were darker.

Must be lucky. Lease company have come back confirming changes and with a reduced price. I,m thinking of getting a 4G mobile WiFi to go in the car, anyone tried one?
Cheers, Neil.

Yep, 19" Matt black. :)
No build week confirmed yet but it's meant to be delivered by September. Probably won't be now after all the changes I've made!
What about you?

Pretty much same as you - no confirmed build week but aim is for Sept delivery. My estimated build week has jumped about but on last checking it was allegedly week 29. If so should be hearing about stage 3 now-ish, but zilch so far. I'm not convinced that it'll be here for Sept :undecided:
What wheels are you swapping out for the Ultraleggeras, 18" Cadiz, Pretorias? No DCC for you this time around?

Hi Booth,
You haven't checked your BW recently, not since you were told it was 29? I was told last week that mine has slipped to 30 (it was 29 too).
-
probably unrelated regarding your vehicles, but ive been told my GTD has been delayed due to the new specs being added. Initially was told 12-14 weeks, now been told im looking end of august.
-
While we're on build weeks... I've been told BW33, effectively doubling the lead-time I was originally quoted. Am now eyeing up the facelifted M135i which BMW can get to me quicker than the GTI even though VW have had my order for three and a half months already. Really, really, wavering. Half of me wants to buy the Beemer just so I can tell VW where to go.
-
if you have waited this long already id hold fire, its because your car will come with new specs, I think you may regret your decision later. The GTi is a very nice car.

Hey Joe
No I haven't checked with my dealer since then which was end May. I'm not one to hassle him daily, lol. I'm expecting it to have slipped tbh, just a hunch. I'll drop him a email now to request an update.
If yours is BW30 you should get confirmed build week stage 3 notification end this week/earlynext week, right? What day do they normally send out the texts?
-

Yeah, when the new spec was added mine slipped from est BW28 to 45. This was due to the MY2016 changes going live on the system. After a few emails back and forth with my dealer and him contacting VWUK, he told me it was back at week 29. But I'm half expecting some more slippage (hopefully not back to 45 though) : (

Joe,
Just heard back from dealer. Apparently it's moved around since my last update (don't think he wanted to tell me!) and is currently at week 34, which would have me looking at delivery towards end Sept

I'm in Ireland and unfortunately VW don't do any of that tracking / texting here. I rely completely on hounding the dealer and/or calling VW directly for information.
It does seem that the Pretoria wheels are a big problem.

Ah, I see. Well the tracker doesn't tell you of changes to unconfirmed build weeks anyway, but is of some use once BW is confirmed, but it is known to be unreliable, much like the configurator and the rest of VW's website.
Damn those Pretorias! It wouldn't mind the delay if they come shod with decent tyres, but somehow I think not.

Yeah, the dealer is telling me it's the wheels. If I dropped the prets, there are other un-allocated cars due for production in the next week or two that I could take - but they are on the cadiz wheels.
I've asked VW to double check my BW again... the guy I've been speaking too is very confident it'll be built on or before wk 30.

That's interesting. My dealer has just blamed the change in specs. I've told both them and VWCS that if they don't come back with a decent reason for me to keep waiting then I'll be cancelling and off to BMW. The dealer is apologetic but uninterested, VWCS have said they're going to come back to me.

Well I hope so for your sake. Tbh I'm losing enthusiasm for mine but I expect that'll change when I finally get a confirmed BW :undecided: Hopong it doesn't slip much more, the bloody Mk8 will be out before you know it!
How sold on having Prets are you? It's a non negotiable option for me. Cadiz are not my favourite by any stretch, but admittedly look good with certain colours, i.e, red, white silver and black even. But I'm fed up with diamond cuts now, they're all starting to look at bit meh, plus they're a pita if you have a kerbing habit :embarrassed:
Remind me what colour R you are getting? Let us know what your dealer says.

My thoughts on the Cadiz are similar to yours! Sick of the diamond cut finish. I've had it on 2 GTI's now and I really want something different and more maintainable. Much prefer the look of the Prets too. However, here in Ireland, the Cadiz are actually the 19" version so they do look a bit better than the 18" version you guys get IMO. If it was any other option that was holding it up (such as the Nav or keyless for example), I'd drop it but when you're spending this amount and you've already waited this long, I don't want to compromise...
I'm getting (or hoping to get!) Lapiz blue.

Agree 19" Cadiz probably look better, but on Lapiz, it's got to be Prets. If I were you I'd stick with your original spec. As you say some options would be no great loss, I'd drop keyless, rear cam, etc (the fripperies if you get my meaning) in a heartbeat if necessary, but the wheels can make the car.
I parked up near a Lapiz R on 18" Cadiz a couple weeks back, had a good look and a chat with the driver. Lovely car but would have looked better with Prets
-
Yeah, I'm with you, the prets are far nicer and I'd be loathe to miss out on them. The Cadiz perhaps look more striking but that diamond cut finish is hard work and looks crap even when the car is moderately dirty. The black inserts are very prone to scratching too.
I wouldn't like to drop keyless or camera either  I have both in my GTI and find them invaluable. I'm really not good at compromise am I?

Are you trying to say what great value the GTI is compared to the R now, and that new R buyers are being had over a barrel? Yep, you're not wrong. C'est la vie!
More like shafted.
Such crude language   I expected something far superior from a wordsmith such as yourself. You must try harder my sweet

I thought long and HARD which verb would best describe the situation. SHAFTED seemed the most appropriate and expressive; and I knew it would titillate you.
I am no Size Queen as I have been blessed where it counts!

Nice for you to take time out from your lofty R Forum ivory tower to visit us lowly GTI forum-ers (though some may not agree, lol).
And how is your Racy Tornado Red beast?

There really is no pleasing you is their AM1W. I remember not too long ago your comments about the inferior FWD GTI and how the R was superior in every single way.
The GTI isn't great value. Even with the freebies they now offer. Back in July 2013 my GTI cost £33,187 before any discount.
Speccing the same car I bought on VW's configuration today and it's £33,637. £450 more expensive than I paid even with the free Discover Nav! The price increases have outweighed the freebies, so if you think you're getting a great deal then think again.
Nothing will ever beat the crazy lease deals they had on the R I'll admit but the price the R is now is the price people should always have been paying. But people just have to face the fact that those lease deals aren't ever coming back and depending on what finance choice you've chosen then you're not necessarily getting "shafted".

I'm glad your car is fine and dandy, long may it continue

Mr Savage, out of interest what is your unconfirmed build week?
-
Have to admit given the spec upgrade to include nav and winter pack is making me seriously look at leasing a more door DSG GTD to replace the Polo as the work run about at the moment as those are the two options i would like and no longer load the lease price

Yeah, I guess that's where you reap the benefits of these items now included as standard spec on the GTI/GTD - keeping the lease figure down whilst getting some toys. Is your your polo diesel or petrol?
-
We're thinking of getting back into a GTi to replace the wife's 1 series convertible after I had to be sensible and flog the Mk6 to get a diseasel. She wants a white 5 door with a sunroof as everything else she might have had is now standard.
£29410 list. I bought my Passat through Car Wow so did the same here. Offers coming in at £24850, over 15% discount. Stick £900 odd onto that if we decide to go for a PP and job's a good 'un in my book. Still less than £26k brand new for a very well specced car.
It also means the GTi could be had for less than £24k brand new if you stuck to the now well equipped basic car.
You have to use VW finance to get that price but that level of discount isn't bad in my book. Could it be that they can't sell the GTi anymore as everyone is buying the R?
-
AM1W;
I'm not going to rise to your irritating petty attempt to provoke a reaction from me. Grammatical corrections are so childish and since I'm not writing an academic dissertation then I really couldn't care either. I'm posting on my phone, on a forum.
I think my figures quite clearly showed that the GTI is no better value now than it was 2 years ago when it was first released. Even the base price of the car has gone up considerably. So I disagree with you.
Rebecca;
I honestly don't know. The communication with my dealer is worse than carrier pigeon. I've not really been too concerned chasing it up though as my GTI is more than keeping me occupied, entertained and happy for the time being.

I was just wondering as the build weeks have been yo-yo-ing about a lot of late. Can't remember when you ordered yours?
I do recall you saying previously your dealer was not very forthcoming on the communication front and sounds like there hasn't been much improvement on that score  It'll turn up when it turns up and in the meantime you've got the GTI to enjoy!
-
I ordered mine on May 29th. I've been given a delivery date of mid August. Based on these discussions looks like they may have mistaken August for December.
-
lol I ordered 31st march, 5th april I had moved to stage 2 with factory, today I received emails and texts saying your order has now moved to stage 2, WTF ..
-
Thinking of ordering a GTI via DTD with park assist and rear window tints. How long do you guys think it would take to build?
-
lol anything between 5-7 months if your lucky

What car have you ordered? Whatever it is August seems VERY optimistic. That said, the lead-in times for a GTI/GTD were better than for the R. I ordered an R on 28th Jan and as it stands, am looking at a late Sept delivery. Thats with an unconfirmed build week and stage 2. That could change either way - who knows!!
-
It's an LSG GTI with PP, DSG, DCC, sunroof, sidescan and all that plus the new freebies. Didn't really leave much off the options list.
My last GTI was a MKV DSG in White - loved that car so really looking forward to this one.
Neil

Nice spec, well loaded then  What's sidescan?
Gotta to love the MkV. So good I had two - a manual, followed by a DSG. No going back to manual now, lol.
Have you been given an unconfirmed build week (sorry if I've missed it somewhere along the line)?
-
Thanks Booth11 - I'm lucky, it's a company car although I'm throwing a fair bit towards it, sadly, right now I don't have a VW order number or know the dealership although I'm chasing the lease company to try and get hold so all I can get is an approx delivery date.
Sidescan - it's that blind spot monitoring, just couldn't think of the correct phrase :embarrassed:
I'm just trying to decide on whether or not to get a VCDS cable. There are a few mods that might be useful for me....
Cheers, Neil.

Mr Savage:
Was just teasing you!
But thanks for the clarity in your response showing that the GTI's value has remained the same.

No, because my name is actually Jennifer  (joking)
Was just teasing you but do I detect a dribble of animosity Asker? There's enough of that in this world, so let it go darling

Sounds like you've already decided on the VCDS. Admit i'm toying with the same idea just for a few low key tweaks. I don't mid my cars other than some minor cosmetic stuff.
-
I'm hoping there may be other stuff maybe related to car-net, mirrorlink and so on that vcds may be able to un-earth. Especially as it's a 4 year lease. You never know what may come along until mk8 surfaces.
Neil.
-
I'm hoping vcds may be able to un-earth some stuff in the car-net, mirrorlink arena as that's all a bit unknown just now. It's a 4 year lease so it may well prove useful. Then I can sit back and enjoy until mk8s hit the road.

Ah Neil, the whole car-net, mirrorlink, car-net connect app can of worms  Who knows what the MY2016 cars will turn up with? We'll find out when the first lucky (or unlucky?) recipient on here takes possession of theirs. But yeah, having VCDS might make some features more accessible.
-
VCDS is a no brainer over the ownership of your car
£250 to allow you to tweak and clear codes etc rather than endless trips back and forth to the dealer.........
I've had mine for 8 years now
-
Yep. I guess if it was an option on the VW configurator, I'd have ticked it without even thinking given how much the total came to.Is Gendan the best place to go? I've seen the name crop-up plenty of times.
Cheers, Neil.

I think this is the 6.5" screen Discover Navigation :

It looks the same as in the Polo brochure :

If you just want it for the latest cars (MK5 onwards) and don't need K-line support the Micro CAN one does the job @ £205

Sold. Now to read that 300 page VCDS and pick-out the mods I want...
-
I can confirm the OP is correct. My car was built BW22 and picking up this week with the adds. Thanks VW.
-
Although the preview vid doesn't tell me Winter Pack is included with cloth...hmm it's a bit like golf ball steering wheel all over again so will just have to see when it arrives...
-
I was gonna complain (again) to VW due to people ordering before me and getting build weeks after me so still paying the pre price rise price and getting the extra kit, however after speaking to my dealer there are a number of orders that will be getting a cheque from VW for this very reason, apparently i'll be getting £1015 back, the equivalent of the pro nav upgrade.
Watch this space!!

Remember to post some pics up when you get your new car - GTI/GTD/R?

Hi Booth,
I got confirmation this week that my R is confirmed for week 30. I know of at least 2 other Irish cars (with prets spec'd) that are being built the same week. Obviously VW are expecting a prets delivery!

Hi Joe
Great news! Very pleased for you, the countdown has begun
My dealer emailed me today and no change - still unconfirmed week 34, let's hope it gets some of those newly delivered Prets before they run out again!

Seriously, I'm sure you'll be glad to be back in a GTI, and remember the pics

Good news and good news on the refund too!
I'll be interested in your thoughts from going GTI>R>GTI
I've got a good few thoughts of my own and still think the GTI is the better allrounder.
