Anyone fancy quickly helping out, Iv'e tried looking through the forum and searching on google but cant find a definitive answer.
On Eurocarparts they have 3 different discs to fit the car ranging from £37 - £61, slightly fatter ones looking t the diameters but which ones do I need for the GTI?
Thanks in advance
-
I'm assuming you're after front discs? Measurement should be 312mm x 25mm I believe
-
Incidentally GSF car parts have 25% off all service items at the min with code 'gsf25'. I used them when I bought discs for my car, pair of Brembo discs for £99.36 down from £132.48. Wanted the Brembo ones which I don't think ECP do?

ha yeah fronts didn't actually say!
Excellent that confirms it then, I assume the more expensive ones must be for the R.
Thanks for the heads up with GSF but the Brembo ones are a little more expensive then Bosch even with the discount and don't really fancy putting there vtech ones on.

I've had Brembo's on the front of mine for nearly 2 years now, still look and work ok after 20,000 miles.
-
I just changed my front discs and pads at the weekend. They 312mm diameter from europarts £110 all in I think. Pagid!!
-
How many miles are people changing their discs at?
I am on 58K miles at the moment, still on the original pads and discs.
The discs do have a slight ridge on them.
-
Changed my fronts at around 50k, they were scored on the back
-
I sell Genuine VW discs and pads for the Mk5 in 312mm and for both they are £167.33 or I also do VW economy at £143.12
I also sell Delphi at £95.76 All inc standard UK delivery

Got the Bosch from Euro 312mm had an extra 5% discount so pads and discs fro the front cost £150 delivered. Just called a local garage who will do the work for £45 so saves me messing about on Sunday. Think £45 isn't a bad deal at all.
Think mine have been on since the car was bought, if so they have 65,000 on them ...
Definitely time for a change then!

The stealers recon mine are on about 50%-60% worn on fronts. 35k. probably get another year out them i think?

one thing is due is the brake fluid. is this critical? many people change it? i dont know how to check before anyones asks. would happily if i could! :nerd:
-
I haven't changed my fluid yet, car is 5 this week, 58K miles
The dealer said unless I noticed a spongy pedal there was no need.
I will probably get it changed in the next service as I think I need pads as well.
-
A dealer not only turning down the chance to make money but also being completely wrong - what a strange combo!

Iv'e been doing mine inline with the manual. It was brought up in my MOT last month the gardge that did it said the fluid was due to be changed he said they tested it by dipping something into the resevoir that tested how much water is in the fluid. Mine was too high thus recommened to change. This being said it's only been 1.5 years since it was done and technically not due till it's next service so I polity declined.
Unsure how long you can push it for but when it comes to brakes I like to ensure mine are working

yeah very true! think i will have to get it done then!

My cars on nearly 67k and on original discs. Stealer has been trying to get me to replace them and the pads for 2 yrs! They are Defo on there last legs now tho.
Had hoped they would last till I get my Mk7 in a few months, but unfortunately it looks like I'm gonna have to bite the bullet. Awaiting a price back from my local Indy. Only found out bout the economy versions today. They should save me a few quid at least.

Mine turned out to be even cheaper, I accidentally (like a numpty I must confess) ordered two sets of pads, I know I know ha ha
Anyway parts come down to £120 + £45 for fitting at a local garage, so much better than the £270 quote I got from an indy.
Also car seems to be driving a little better, I was always getting some kind of feedback from the steering wheel, only very slightly at certain times when driving and so now I suspect the discs may of been warped a little.

Can I ask which brand they supplied? I'm always interested in keeping my prices competitive and it's good to know who buy's what etc

I bought the parts myself from Euro car parts, all Bosch!

Hi All, as this is on the topic of brakes I'm after some updated road pads to run in the std discs I have.
Discs I have are only 10k old hence the question, I've looked at EBC but woud really welcome some opinions.
Thanks

The most popular uprated pads for the later GTI's seem to be Ferodo DS (I can price them if your happy to wait until Tuesday when I'm back at work and just need your reg to check)
-
Sounds good, what's the difference between them and EBC Yellowstuff? Will they be suitable when I come to change the discs when necessary, will use updated discs also.

This compound has been designed specifically for road use. It combines many of the characteristics found in a pure racing material (high friction, absence of fade) but has improved cold performance, and reduced disc wear and noise.
The key features of DS Performance are:
- High friction coefficient (0.46 average)
Excellent disc life
Low wheel dust
Racing "feel"
Low heat transmission to caliper - thus avoiding fluid boil
It's hard to say differences betwen tham and yellow's (I sell both), But going by this forum the Mk5/6 owners rave about the DS range (Search or Google will give better answers than I can)
-
Thanks, can you send me a DM with supply only prices. Thanks

Mintex M1144 best pads ive had on my GTI's - about £110 for front, but man they stop fast. Combined with braided lines, they feel nearly as strong as OEM R32 set up but with out the weight.
Albeit R32 ones are much better for track use.

My Ferodo DS2500 pads are £116.23

Yeah Ferodo DS2500 are a great pad, one tiny draw back is they take slightly longer to heat up, but great stopping power when they do.
