Hello!
Haven't been on here for a long time although I recognise a few members that have switched from the MK6 section to the MK7 section.
I currently have a Stage2+ Golf R and have just ordered a Golf GTD, been told 6-8 weeks for a factory order?? although it seems a bit optimistic to me TBH.
Will be keeping the R and mile munching on the GTD, never driven the MK7 before so I hope I wont be disappointed and hopefully i'll be posting some pics up in 6-8 weeks time and lurking in the meantime!!
-
Welcome back mate. The GTD is a solid car and I'm sure monkey hanger will be over soon to tell you all about it!

Hi Steve,
Welcome to the Mk7.
6-8 weeks does seem optimistic but you never know.
What kind of spec did you go for?
Just add a tuning box and you'll forget all about your Mk6
-

So solid that he's getting shot of it in favour of an R
Welcome back

Ahh, Mr H, welcome back!
Will it be a name change to Daily-Plus-Sunday-Driver?
Good shout anyway, the GTD is a cracking car, super torquey and easy to live with plus plenty in reserve for when it gets to feel a bit slow
A short lead time but then again I guess there are plenty in the system, so long as you don't want any 'difficult' options.
So, talking of which - what options has sir gone for?
-
You'll love the GTD. I bought mine having not driven one and its fantastic. Although this is going to be your commuting car I'd highly recommend (and I'm sure others will too) that a DTUK tuning box will transform the car and make it feel less slow than your Stage 2+ R currently will make it.
Welcome along though!

Yes it is a great car, but it's a lot tamer than the MK6 GTD/Scirocco 170TDI, and mine came with sh!tty Bridgestones which really hurt its potential. The DTUK box gave it back some feeling of performance, but ultimately i've said "bollocks to the MPG" and i'm getting an R!
-
Well I'll be the only one who says you don't need a tuning box on a gtd. If you want speed order an r
-
Hi Geoff, Andy and everyone else!
Thanks for the friendly welcome.
I've ordered a black,5 door and didn't spec any options TBH and NO WHEEL CHANGES OR MODS this time when i get it!!....................honest.

You say that now, but the MK7 wait breeds temptation and procrastination. My TR GTD was originally ordered as DBP, and my R on order has since had Pretorias added.

Nope, i had to promise to no optional extra's, 5 door and strictly NO MODS!
Well not straight away anyhow!

So with all these north east members when are we going to do the "done" thing and hang around a car park somewhere and take a few photos of cars haha
-
Welcome back old bean.
I might be a lone voice but I still think that the Mk6 R is better looking than the Mk7 R as is evident from the pictures in your signature.
-
No Asker, I think most of us would agree from most angles the mk6 R was a much meaner looking car and has far more presence than the mk7 R.
Especially with 19" Tallys and the black headlights.

Can't disagree with that M. Ex. In fact I still think the mk6, in the R and other hot hatch guises, is an all round better looking car. Many, many wil disagree though
But it's not all about looks. Luckily sundaydriver will have one of each

Hang out with the 250 Corsa, Clio and Civic drivers that congregate in Halfords Car Park of the Silverlink on a Saturday night? Spook the Doggers that go down St Mary's lighthouse car park in Whitley bay? Go "over the border" to the red light district in Middlesbrough, where meand my mate Lee used to spook kerb crawlers by patrolling the area in his dad's 1 year old white Volvo 850 (with a costume shop flat bobby's hat on the parcel shelf) when I was at Teesside uni?
Where is the best group hang out in the North East for us?
