Title: Problem
Post by: C3PO on 05 January 2015, 19:59
So, there I was travelling back from Yorkshire on 2nd jan on the M1 when a warning light illuminates on the dashboard . Exhaust emissions warning light after checking the manual. So, got home, unpacked the car, and went straight off to find someone to check the car over and make sure it was nothing serious. Both VAGtech and Indie Tech in MK shut due to the festive season, so called in at Wayside VW in MK. Shocked at the fact they could not just plug in and advise, but wanted me to make an appointment some time next week, so walked out in disgust vowing I will never cross their doorstep again. Gave Ben at Skipton VW a ring (my normal dealer for servicing and purchases) who spent 20 mins on the phone looking at what it could be, and advised ok to drive, but need to get it checked ASAP. So waited until this morning and rang Vagtech in MK who have been superb in the past, and said just bring it down and we will see what fault codes have been logged. Turns out that the inlet manifold solenoid had an intermittent fault, and all is now well for less than £150 .

How can certain main dealers just turn business away?

If only I could predict faults in advance

Hi All, I've got the same problem. Can you let me know what fault code you have so I can see if it's the same problem rater than buying a new manifold? Thanks again.

So, after hoping that a sensor would solve the problem, on comes the warning light just over a week after having the cheapest option carried out. Looks like a new manifold is required . Worse still and searching various forums, this issue is common in the VAG group. Now waiting for advice from VW to see despite me being out of warranty whether they will replace as good will. A new manifold at 62k seems like poor quality to me. Does anyone know what happens if it fails? And whether it will damage the engine? Trying to work out if I can last until March when the beast arrives?

I had the manifold issue. If yours is the same problem it was £600 or so to sort but Donny VW got me half off VW so £300 all in.

Fingers crossed it hangs on till your mk7 turns up.  Just starting the long wait for mine now

Thanks, that's what I am hoping. Nice spec by the way, I d like black but not sure I could do it justice, especially when you have set the bar so high

Thanks

I really did think about straying from black this time, not because it's hard to keep clean (what would I do with all that free cleaning time) but just for a change.  Initially was gonna go for lapis blue, but decided to stick with black.  Had a temporary wobble when I saw Mrs Wigit's Night Blue though   but I know if I got any other colour after a few weeks I'd be wishing it was black!  Now if they'd had a dark grey...

I know what you mean, after seeing Wigit's pics I did think have I ordered the right colour, but having owned 2 red GTI's I did think I needed to have a change, and the Lapiz Blue was too much of a lure, even though I suspect a large proportion will have chosen that colour.

A dark grey would have been a great choice, and provided an even greater dilemma!

Hope the time passes quickly for your order, I know I have been waiting since Sept, and I know it's sat waiting for a ship to bring it across the water.

Providing it does not get grounded, I only have a few weeks to go

Hello, new here

I've had the same issue with the light coming on. It's an '11 plate Mk6 GTI with approx. 29k miles on it
Engine felt to be running fine, pulling well across the rev range
Took it to a local specialist (official VW dealer didn't have an appointment for three weeks)

They plugged it in, drained a quarter litre of oil saying the last people to service - a non franchised dealer who I purchased from - had overfilled although I've done 2k miles since. Reset light and all was well

Came on again on Friday, drove 300 motorway miles over the weekend and noticed the light went out on the return journey

Anyone got any ideas? The thought of an intermittent fault worries my wallet!

Did they tell you what the fault code was? I think from memory it was P2015 inlet manifold intermittent signal, so it cannot tell which position the flap is in.

Did they test to see if the flap is operating normally?

For your information, mine is still running fine so I would not worry too much if it is the fault code I quoted above. I was quoted £300 for the part from a VW independant plus labour which had I been keeping the car I would have replaced at some point.

Suggest you find out the code, and if you need some advice, Ben Smith at Skipton VW (good friend) will give you advice on which way to go next.

Cheers. Stupidly, I was so happy not to have a bill into the hundreds that I didn't ask
It's running nicely now but if it happens again I'll get the fault code and call Ben
Thanks
