I know this was briefly mentioned in another thread, but November 2014 Navigation update is available.

AFAIK, each package is a complete set of data - they aren't incremental.

Grabbed this yesterday after it was mentioned and I found the single download was limited to around 500KBps, but if you download the split files all at the same time you should get around 500KBps per file (as it's limited per connection). The 6 files for standard Nav downloaded for me at a combined 3MBps which was much better!

I haven't upgraded my Nav since buying the Car in May, so interested to see if I notice much difference. Hopefully there will be less trying to take me down single track lanes when there is an A Road around the corner!

Edit:
This is the landing page if you need standard Nav:

I was looking on another forum for the Discover update and found this:

Discover navigation updates

We are pleased to be able to inform you that our Product Marketing Team has announced the process for navigation updates to be downloaded to The New Golf. As you are aware, the vehicle is supplied with navigation data pre-loaded on an SD card. This card has seven licences built in; the first licence is used by the pre-existing data on the unit. This allows our customers to download 6 updates over a three year period.

You can check the data version in your vehicle by selecting menu and then setup on the navigation system in your vehicle. The latest version available to download is shown on the following website:

http://www.volkswagen.de/de/models/g...n-updates.html

There is currently no option to display this site in English, so we would recommend using Google Chrome as your browser which will provide an automatic translate option.

If an update is available, it can be downloaded via www.navigation.com select your manufacturer and follow the onscreen prompts. When you have exhausted your free downloads, you can purchase a new SD card from your local Volkswagen Retailer or pay for individual downloads via the site.

Thank you for contacting Volkswagen UK.

So this raises a few questions and apologies if this has been covered before. Firstly if you only updated once a year would it give you longer before expiry or would a yearly update use up 2 licences? Or, maybe as stated, its for a 3 year period and has an expiry date. And secondly I read on here recently that it's been reported in a magazine that this has now extended to 5 years. How can that be without supplying a new SD card for the additional licences?

Hmmm, I downloaded the single file last night and it is showing date modified as 08/07/2014.

Did you download the single files?

(NavPro multipart download) Files are dated variously around July 2014.

The Update has a title of "2015".

They only update it twice a year, this one must be the most recent I suggest.

Yeah, mine was the Nav Pro update and when I open the ISO file for GB is shows that is was modified on 20/06/2014, which tells me that even though it may be the latest update it is still 6 months old in terms of the data it holds.

It might be slightly non-current, but its going to be better than one I've got currently... and thats all you can hope for until we get the new DNS v2 system in our Golf Mk8's that will use live Google map data (thats probably also only updated once every 6 months/years but at least doesn't need manual 20gb downloads!)

Hi guys,

Just wondering if someone could post the Navigation database code from their car after successful update to the November edition?

I tried to update mine and it got to 100% and then said there had been a error while updating and the system had to restart! Not sure if it's done it or not really :-( The NAV seems to work ok so can't have been that big an error!

Thanks,

Hi Guys,

Some help needed please! I have tried to update the Nav database again and it seemed to work fine this time. HOWEVER. When the system re-booted all seemed normal and the nav screen loaded. After about 30 seconds a message pops up on the screen stating: "Please insert a data medium with valid navigation data". This message completely locks out the NAV function! Really not happy about this! Any ideas?

Yes, its still not quite finished.... give it a bit longer... eventually you get a message saying its complete.

(I panicked too the other day!)

Hey thanks for your reply.

I did leave it quite a while and it still came up with the same error :-( I have reset the NAV to factory settings and its updating for the 3rd time as we speak! Fingers crossed!

3rd time lucky for me. Although it still said there had been a download error when it completed. It seems to be working now though so I'm going to leave it right alone! It says 2015 after the version number so guess that's the newest one on there?

Yeah when you go into the version screen it says "2015", the previous one said "2014".

Despite me being really worried, indeed panicky at times, I just left it going over 2 days. Leave the card in, just drive around normally and eventually it will magically say "complete!".

Don't take the card out until it says it.

During the upgrade expect all sorts of things related to the DNS Pro to stop randomly working, but they will come back.

I updated my discover nav today. The smaller screen version (non PRO). I've put the SD card in with the new maps and been stuck on "Checking Navigation Files..." For 20 minutes until giving up and turning the ignition off. How long does this take? The files should be loaded directly from the SD as the non PRO version has no SSD drive?

I resent having to download these updates myself. It was suggested by Listers Volkswagon in Worcester that each car should have its own SD card with embedded chassis no. You use this to download updates. I did not receive an SD card with my Discover Nav Pro on my GTI. But it is suggested in this thread that should be the case. I successfully carried out the May update but for some reason am having a few problems with Novembers. My biggest problem is I don't have a computer only an IPad. I don't see why I should have to purchase a computer just to upgrade my sat nav every six months.

I'd go ask Apple why you can't download and transfer files onto memory sticks... their problem, not VW's.

Shouldn't take any time at all when you put the 'new' maps in. I'm not even aware of getting a 'Checking Navigation Files' message, although I might have missed it. Maybe the files are corrupt in some way?

You only get the SD card from VW with the Discover Nav, not the Discover Pro - you can use any suitable SD card to update the Discover Pro (From what I've read anyway, I have the Discover Nav, so can't say for certain)

Curious as to how you did the May update without a computer though ?

I think it's a good thing that we can update the maps ourselves - plenty other manufacturers will charge you for each and every update, and although the cost of the updates has been built into the upfront cost of speccing nav, being able to update the data yourself is a step in the right direction.

I started the car up the next morning and the Nav screen booted up as normal and the version says 2015 so no idea what caused it before.
