i maybe swapping my mk4 gti for a mk5 this weekend its a 3dr 2004 1.6 se fsi service history and 133k on the clock , the bloke said the boot wont open from out side only from the inside, passenger window has come off the runner and he replaced the rear brakes but the brake light on the dash ain't come off are these an easy fix ? and when i view and test drive what should i look out for as my knowledge isnt great as only been used to a mk4 cheers guys as much help i receive will be appreciated

My honest advice is to not bother, it sounds like a bit of a problem child so best off saving and buying a better condition car.
However, brake light could just need a fault scanner to reset the warning message. The window would involve removing the door skin which isn't a hard just, but loads of bolts of different sizes so requires careful attention to detail. The boot not opening could be a fault mechanism/badge so could possibly need swapping (again, a fault code reading via VCDS for example would show this up). Swapping the rear badge for a whole new unit is more of a pain as the boot trim likes to snap it's clips when you remove it.
Most of those jobs are home mechanic level but as I said at the start, few quid more nets you a car with less problems.

with regards to the boot ive not taken the trim off but looks as tho there is a snapped cable i can see it through a gap on the trim , i called a garage today he thinks with regards to the abs loght i may need a abs unit

As I said, get a proper VW diagnostics carried out before anything if you can, as I'd advise against doing the expensive options first. You can pick up generic fault readers for as little as £30, I recently bought a VAG specific one (Foxwell NT500 for £120) and now I can just plug into my car and see exactly what's wrong with any electric system.
Have you bought the mk5 yet, or still thinking about it?

Because of the faults i did a straight swap for my mk4 so i have the mk5 now i wanted to get the abs thing done 1st then fix the window issue which i think the cable has broken and then onto the boot when i try to open the boot from out side i dont hear the mechanism noise
also how to i find out if the car is belt or chain driven

It's a belt.
Golf MK5 was of the era with ABS pump issues but we would need a code read to confirm.
I wouldn't personally go for it basing it purely on the fact that the MK4 and MK3 lower engines were all sh!t.

its getting re scanned tomorrow to see ig its definitely the abs unit that need replacing or sensor's and ill take a pic of the boot issue as you guys are more clued up then me
-
is it the brake pad warning light or the ABS warning light?
Electrical issues with anything in the tailgate are usually down to a broken wire where the loom enters the tailgate from the c-pillar in the rubber boot. If its gone brittle though might be better off replacing the harness (i've done dozens of these on early mk5s). Could be the microswitch for the boot release, you need vagcom and a multimeter to diagnose properly.

im taking it down the garage in the morning for a scan with the abs .. on the dash i get the asb light on with the traction control light and after about 10 mins of driving the handbrake light beeps 3 times but then continues to flash if that makes sence to you when i try to open the boot there is no mech noise the rear lights wiper and jet all work fine

update after plugging the car in its come up with :- ... i need 2 rear wheel speed sensors and nox sensor is this an expensive fix ?
-
aftermarket speed sensors are about 40 quid each, you can't rely on fault codes alone for those though as the majority of the time with mk5's its the rear wheel bearings at fault which have the pickup ring for the abs sensors built in to them. The revised nox sensors are something daft like £400+ and you're supposed to do a factory software update when installing them which requires either a dealer visit or a tool like Autologic.

my mistake the faults got cleared at 1st and when they came back on the only faults that came up was just the rear left and right sensors
-
still depends on the code. if its an open circuit fault or electrical fault then it tends to be either sensor or wiring. If its showing mechanical malfunction or implausible signal its more likely the bearings, need to read the live data while driving at low speeds really and see what each of the sensors is recording.

the car is going into the garage Wednesday morning before the order sensors they are going to check it all 1st to see if its bearings ect... hopefully it'll be a simple issue and won't cost ££££'s
