Title: Soft99 Fusso Coat
Post by: seabrook132 on 30 August 2014, 20:22
Ok so I've just been caught up in some hype on DW and couldn't resist ordering some of this:
http://nipponshine.com/shop/body-sealant/fusso-coat-light/

Not an expensive fancy wax like AF Desire but look like a very interesting product to me and I feel like doing a wax test after reading some of your guys' reviews/comparisons. Plus it's payday and I couldn't resist .

So a full write up hopefully coming soon depending on weather and work commitments and we shall see what the stuff is like! Anyone used this before?

Ah, the dangers of hanging about on DW

Looks interesting, good price.  Expensive and fancy doesn't necessarily equal great results or performance.  I prefer hard waxes so look forward to seeing results of test.

It certainly is a dangerous game :) starting to think about winter protection so thought I could justify a new wax :)

Lots of ideas for the test including comparison with the other waxes in my current inventory; Collinite 845 and Fk1000p and also maybe how it performs layered on top of Sonax BSD?

I've used it on my GTD, really impressed with it. Easy application, good durability. Seemingly the durability is better without a layer of polish before hand, applied to the Mrs. FR and the sheeting/beading is still fantastic whereas its dropping off on mine a little. Both applied about 3 months ago.

I put a video on YouTube that shows the sheeting a little.

Water behaviour is looking good and good to hear more positive comments on this wax. My car does around 300miles a week and gets filthy quickly as a result of living on a busy military flying base during the week and right next to Luton airport at weekends so should be a good test of durability. Hoping the weather's good next weekend so I can get some applied :)

I do 400 a week mate and the car is covered in sh!te from the builders on my estate (its a new housing development) but I'm impressed with the durability.

Ok so managed to find some time today to get this applied so here goes, first a bit of background info on the contenders:

Soft99 Fusso Coat (Light Version)
-A hard paste wax containing PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), which is added to give superior hydrophobic ability.
-Claims of 12 months durability in lab testing.
-Comes in both light and dark versions depending on the colour of your car.
-Manufactured in Japan by Soft99.
-Distributed in UK by NipponShine.
-Bought for £19.99 (200g).

Finishkare High Temp Paste Wax (Fk1000p)
-A hard synthetic paste wax with melting temps of 250 degrees C plus.
-Manufactured in USA.
-Widely available in the UK.
-Bought from CleanYourCar for £17.95 (412g)

Collinite 845 Insulator Wax
(https://farm4.staticflickr.com/3843/14971792179_ed8c86234a_b.jpg)
-A soft liquid wax originally designed for industrial use
-Up to 6 months durability
-Manufactured in USA by Collinite.
-Widely available in the UK.
-Bought from Polished Bliss for £18.00 (473ml)

Preparation:
-The car was first given a pre-wash with Auto Finesse Citrus Power and then 2BM washed with Dodo Juice Born To Be Mild and a Dodo Juice Wash Pad.
-The bonnet was then clayed with Meguiars clay and Quik Detailer and given an IPA wipedown.
-Bonnet was then polished with Poorboys SSR1 on a Chemical Guys White Hexlogic Pad to ensure all previous LSP removed and then given a second IPA wipedown.

Application:
One of the things I wanted to try was how each wax would behave if layered over my favourite product of the moment, Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer. This is marketed as a quick detailer but is much more like a sealant in my experience, giving great beading and keeping the car nicely clean with good durability too. With this in mind I split the bonnet into six sections theoretically:

The bonnet was taped horizontally and then Sonax BSD applied to the forward part, before taping the bonnet vertically and applying Fk1000p to the driver's side, Fusso to the centre and then 845 to the passenger side. All waxes applied with Megs yellow foam applicators and left for 10 mins before buffing off.

Fusso was quite difficult to apply compared to the other too, not spreading as well. Fk1000p is really easy to apply thinly and consistently and the Collinite, being a liquid wax, is the easiest to apply I have ever come across. All waxes buffed off very easily.

Looks:
I have to admit that today, with no sunshine and just grey cloud all day, judging and particularly photographing appearance was very difficult. In the end I couldn't separate the three waxes decidedly, with 845 maybe giving slightly better gloss than the other two to my eye, and Fk1000p slightly more clarity to the reflections than Fusso. An overview for you:

Fk1000p:

845:

Beading:
Nothing to separate the 3 here.

Fusso:

Fk1000p:

845:

Updates to come as we see how these three last. Durability, protection and how clean the LSP keeps the car are the most important factors for me so I'm looking forward to seeing how they perform.

Thanks for reading!

Great job Dan

Might be my imagination, but the Fusso beads look better.  Interested to see how the waxes fare in the longer term, and the impact of the BSD on overall durability.  I also decided to use a sealant prior to doing my test, don't always use it but mindful of the forthcoming winter weather.

Look forward to your updates.

My money would be on the collinite 845 and Fk1000p lasting the longest.  So looking forward to see the results if the other out perform them. Might need to make a buy.

Thanks Rebecca,
Yeah I'm interested to know how BSD affects them too. I tend to use both a sealant and a wax just because I like multiple layers and different products combined for more protection (e.g my wheels currently wear Fk1000p over Gtechniq C5).

SI74,
Interesting comment, yeah both 845 and Fk1000p have very good reputations for durability so it will definitely be interesting if Fusso outlasts one or both of them.

Fantastic post, I reapplied my Fusso on Sunday although I've got the dark version and just went on freshly clayed paint. Did two coats. Out of interest how long did you let yours cure for?

Haven't updated this as regularly as I would've liked to but hey. 8 weeks on and this is the state of play. Car has only had maintenance washes with Citrus Pre-Wash and Born To Be Mild in this time:

845 beading:

845 over BSD beading:

Fusso beading:

Fusso over BSD beading:

Fk1000p beading:

Fk1000p over BSD beading:

Interestingly the best results seem to come from Fk1000p on it's own and 845 over BSD as a combo. All of the bonnet still showing protection to a lesser extent though.

Rest of the car also got a good clean today and a layer of Gtechniq C2v3 which left it like this:

No contest there Dan, FK 1000p hands down (sans BSD) still looking good after 8 weeks.

Fusso pretty poor.  845 performance seems fair, but someone said on my wax thread about it beading well after 7 months but from your shots doesn't look like it would last that last long  :undecided:

Either way, your cars looking bloody good

Cheers Rebecca, it looks fine in the shade lol. Still haven't found the time to get the DAS6 on it as much as it needs so full correction will have to wait till after winter now. Winter prep next week and I have some more new products to try out, namely Dodo Juice Ferrous Dueller (switch from iron-x that I was using before) CarPro Eraser and I've also got some Bilt Hamber Dynax UC to give the arches and suspension some protection with. Wheels will be off and some C5 going on :). Knowing my luck it will probably rain all week and I won't be able to get half of it done!

As for the wax, looks like I'll be wearing a few layers of fk1000p! 7 months is some good going from 845, could it be a mileage/usage thing? My car is never garaged, lives on a busy military flying base during the week and then undeneath Luton airport at the weekend and does plenty of miles. Or they've got a better application technique maybe? Not sure on that one, but I still really like it as an LSP, even if it's performance isn't quite as good on my car. Easiest wax to use I've come across and I'd be happy to apply it a little more regularly.

Not sure what to think about Fusso, it may be my application that let it down as for some reason I found it quite difficult to spread and got a thicker layer than I would've wanted. I will probably experiment with it more next year but for the colder months it'll be the FK!
