2500÷90 = 27.7777777778
27.7777777778×18 = 500

No its 18

i disagree 25/0.9=27.777.... so thats 27 bits of ribbon that are 90cm per roll with a bit of wastage, 500/27=18.5185... so you need 19 rolls as if you only had 18 rolls there would be 14 presents without a bit of ribbon thats 90cm long

Definitely 19 rolls, as hobbiniho says, you get 27 full lengths of ribbon from each roll. The 0.77 is useless and cannot be used as part of a 90cm length.

If you divide 500 gifts by 27 lengths of 90cm you get 18.5 rolls

Again, part rolls are no good. 18 rolls * 27 lengths =486 gifts therefore 19 rolls are needed to do the full 500 gifts.

2500÷90 = 27.7777777778
27.7777777778×18 = 500
lol nice one, sucks as i did put 2500÷90 but the number was so long i thought i was doing it wrong ,then what would i do with 500. I will remeber this for next time as i bet i failed.

18 is wrong as you have a remainder that is useless.  I wasn't paying attention to the question so it is 19 rolls.

The actual answer is Zero, you get the girl at John Lewis to do the gift wrapping for you

27×19 = 513

Yeah i saw it, im trying to show how to put it on the test as you have to show what you did to get the answer using a calculator. Its the hardest part of the test for me. I understand you lose 70cm in each roll. lol 3 of use did the test took me 1hr 10min my brother rushed it in about 30min because he was tied from having no days off work and a girl took 1hr 30min and we all failed.  This is are second try and there will be a third

I think this was another one i could not show how to work out, but im sure i got it right as the first too are the same so the last one should be right. I lose points not showing how to work it out:
Whats the best deal ,a kettle costs £60
25% off     1/3 off   £12 off    i choose £12 off but lose points not showing how i did it on a calculator  :embarrassed:

60 quid

so 25 % _ to a 1/4 off is 15 quid

1/3 off is equal to 33.3% or 20 quid

so 12 quid off is the WORST deal is infact a 1/5 or 20%

god i hated my math phases of my courses.

I got every ANSWER wrong, but showed all working out and passed

In all seriousness, how old are you and where are you doing the course? Is there anyone that can give you some extra tuition or support? By the sounds of it you need some extra help, simply retaking the exam isn't going to achieve anything.

 i take iv failed. maths is one thing i never learnt at school and never want to learn it.
I learnt three (aweek ago) mean, median and mode but dont see when im ever going to use it in life. You can get through life just knowing basic maths. I will work on percentage and fractions and see how it goes next time.

Good on ya mate. :afro:

My missus left skool without basic reading, writing or mathematics.

When she couldnt help her kids with the homework ( or spell my surname ) she went back to college and got the basic education she missed out on years ok.

As dom said, perhaps your tutor needs to help a tad more, blindly doing re takes will get you nowhere !

If you've ever known the 'average' of something. You've used either mean, median or mode.

Lets say someone asks you how long it takes you to drive to work. You know it takes usually takes 20 minutes in normal traffic. But it took two hours one time when someone binned it and the road was shut, and 10 minutes when you were late and driving at 1 lepton.

You say "20 minutes". You've just used the mode of all the previous times you've driven to work. (ie most common time becuase you discard the outliers)

If you've ever split a restaurant bill. You will have probably worked out the mean amount that everyone spent (ie split it equally).

So the point i'm getting at is:
Quote
I learnt three (aweek ago) mean, median and mode but dont see when im ever going to use it in life
You probably use it every day.

Mean, median and mode is basic maths

And is great way of f**king people over when buying rounds, especially if a few are a bit geeky and the others don't get it.

Nothing worse than getting a round in and everyone decides to swap from pints to double vodkas
