As many of you probably know, the Bora headlights are pretty crap, and I've been on the lookout for some decent ones for a while now, most projectors I seem to have come across though are angel eyes and I really don't want to sport them on my Bora.
I was having a look today and came across these!
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Headlights-set-xenon-look-LHD-VW-Bora-1999-2005-/271451770295
They look like the standard items but without HIDs fitted. Now these are available but are LHD which is a major pain in the backside. Why can't they do them RHD too?
-
Personally I'd buy them as I'm positive they will be able to be moved around for RHD.
-
It's a lot of money for a dead weight though if they can't be changed. I like having everything legal on my car (now...).
I have emailed the seller about this to see if they either sell RHD versions or if there is something that can be done with the LHD ones to convert them.

Have you got it through the MOT then?
As Josh says most headlights like that can be flicked between LHD and RHD.

Half he job is being done tomorrow, the other half and re MOT Monday. Effectively, yes.

Here's the response I got:
Dear shady_pioneer,
Many thanks for your email.
We do not have the RHD version but you can install headlamp converters which are clear stickers which are adjusting the beam pattern accordingly to RHD requirements.
As far as I have read online, the beam pattern adjuster stickers are a temporary measure for if you take your car abroad, so don't really like the idea of that.
Why hasn't someone done these lights in RHD?

For a ew quid more you could probably pick up genuine xenons from Ebay

Thing is, the genuine ones have Xenons, I was looking for a set that took standard bulbs so I'm not breaking any laws.

Yes I know, but legalities Rhys! Need headlight washers and self levelling, I have neither.

Not to pass an MOT you dont.......
The MK4 has the ballasts built into the back of the lights anyway so thats one issue sorted

You'll be fine with projector lenses Kirk, it's bellend who run HIDs in standard headlights that need shooting.

Yeah i think he is confused.....OEM xenons are in the correct units and offer far better light output than any HID kit. The trick is to retain the OEM light output of 4300k. The higher the number the worse the light output

Agreed, once you start going above 4300k it goes too blue.

I was always under the assumption HIDs needed headlight washers and self levelling to pass MOT, I'm not looking at retrofitting aftermarket HIDs either, just wanted the Xenon look headlights from a Bora (the style).
Anyway, even if I did find some OEM Xenons, they are extremely expensive and are as rare as horse poop.

Its a grey area.....
Technically they should be fitted but if they arent fitted then they cannot be tested and therefore failed for not working
Also as long as the beam pattern is level and correct then thats ok too
Mine has passed its last two MOT's this way at two different garaged
