Alright guys,
Just treated myself to a 59 plate GTI and it's due a service on 65,000 miles now. I'm just wondering what's involved in this service so I can check it has been done before I drive it away.
Replies will be much appreciated

Service should have been done @60k mate. Has that one been done?
If so, 60k is one of the big ones and it pretty much includes everything. Sparks, Brake fluid, oil, all fiters etc...
Check service book and make sure all has been done.
-
Surely that would depend on whether it had been on a fixed or variable service plan in the past?
-
I'm just about to book mine in for it's 40k service which again I'm told is a big one, not sure whether it differs from a 60k?
Anyway about to book mine in with: http://www.lincoln-vw.co.uk/
Full Major Service + MOT will set me back £249 cash.

Yeah that seems a fair price, just try blag a 1 liter bottle of oil as top up.

Thanks for the replies fellas,
The garage is doing the service for me, the main thing I wanted to know was whether the timing chain would get changed in this service but thy have said it won't be but they can do it at cost for me, do you think it would pay me to get it done now before it's too late? haha I've read the horror stories
-
Find out the cost first  but I would for peace of mind if nothing else.
-
Is it strange that I ask for sparks/brake fluid/oil/filters to be changed every time I get my car serviced?

Not strange, bit stupid....
-
Be surprised if they did change the plugs each time too and some tech didnt jusy pocket them and ebay them as long life 60000 mile/6 year plugs arnt normally cheap.

Stupid? Strong choice of word there.

What word would you have preferred?

I think calling someone 'stupid' for maintaining their car to a relatively fanatical standard on a forum specifically for the more intricate details of that particular car is a bit of a dick move.
I can afford it and like to keep my car mint. That doesn't make me stupid.
-
I might add that Ross had a timing chain tensioner fault in December.
I have not.

What's the saying? A something and his money are soon parted? I can't for the life of me think what that 'something' is.
I'm only messing with you, but I'm sure many people will agree that there are no benefits in changing long life spark plugs at every service. However, I'm spending a considerable amount of money on my Mk2 at the moment. Some might say that, that was stupid.
-
Really no point in changing spark plugs at every service mate, wether you can afford it or not it is money wasted
-
If I'm being completely honest I've mainly had the filters done rather than the plugs every time.

Wow Terry, nice amount of knowledge you have. The timing chain has nothing to do with maintenance at all.
I could chance my oil and spark plug every 500 miles like you and it would make no difference, it was a manufactures fault.

Seems you are hell bent on arguing and name calling. I thought you were ok until this thread.

Sorry buddy, my bad. Really stressful few days at work and my shoulder is killing me (which makes me sour and angry cause i cant hit the gym), all in all has put me in a bad mood for the last few days. None of which should spill over into forum chat with other enthusiasts
Again, my bad......forgiveness? :embarrassed: :undecided: :embarrassed:

Ouch that's a bit harsh, think he was just one of the unlucky ones. Of course you only hear about the ones which have failed we must be one of the lucky ones. I feel bad for the ones currently experiencing this problem especially those with expensive rebuilds.
