Well at long last it would appear my habit of spinning up my front wheels in these greasy road conditions has finally paid off! At last I need some new front tyres so I can finally ditch the set of crappy budget tyres, which were on my car when I bought it 18 months ago. Off to get a set of Goodyear asymmetric 2's tomorrow and I'll finally have a full matching set
-
And your point being? You just bragging
-
Always nice to get on some good tyres, I swear by Michelin Pilot Sport 3's. Just need to wear the Dunlops down on the front and I'll be on a full set
-
More gd news, just getting the tyres changed and they have actually gone down in price. £220 for a pair of 18" sweet!

Good spot Hurdy, I meant £199 a pair

I managed to get two 18" Michelin PS3's for £250 with a free £50 fuel voucher from Michelin.
-
My contact sport 5's are £182 a piece (fitted)
But I can't fault them
-
The tyre place said I may get cash back from Goodyear too coz of some offer they are doing ATM. Not checked their website yet tbh!
-
Michelin now doing £70 cash back on 4 tyres, HERE (http://www.michelin.co.uk/tyres/special-offers/fuel)
Just in time as I need four when I take the winters off, PS3s for me this time.

PS3's are good but they wear down so quickly,

Yup. Barely got 10k out of a pair

The new tyres have made such a difference. It's a novelty actually being able to get the power down!

I had them before and the wear rate was no worse than The Conti 5s or the Goodyears.. Superb grip in the wet

10K for a tyre which costs approx £40 more than the Vreds that covered 15K and offered no more in the way of performance. I can say the same about the Goodyear F1's too

F1 are in the middle of those two, same grip as Vred, tad more to buy...but better fuel economy and better in the rain
so for me F1's and Vred are equal
-
So the Vreds are only £60 each, nice price, as the PS3s are costing £100 after the voucher.
I found the Vreds had nowhere near as good grip in the wet and as there is that much rain in this country that is more important to me than getting an extra few thousand miles.
-
i think i typed it wrong, i meant to say eagle cost a bit more but are much better in the wet than Vred

Vreds are £80 a corner so forget about the voucher as how often do they come up and you have to buy 4 tyres....
Tyres are subjective. For me there is no difference between Vreds, F1's or the PS3's apart from price. I do approx 20k a year for me tyre wear is key. I dont want to be buying a set of tyres every 12 months....
-
I have always had 18-20k out of the Michelins on the front and well the rears are more like 45k.

Do you float on air or something? :undecided:
Im not an 'enthusiastic driver' (my daughter has put paid to that!) but I like to make decent progress but never beyond the limits.
I have the alignment checked every 12 months and my pressures every month :undecided:
-
Some day's economical driving takes over. I do 300 miles a week if they lasted only 10k I would be replacing them every 7 months rather than every 15 months. And isn't the GTD engine slightly heavier than the GTI. p.s. 38PSI too.

Ha i run the old PD engine (its a Golf underneath). Run my pressures at 38psi too

Have no experience of Vredestein or PS3s on my mk 6 GTI but before I changed to the Mk 7, I'd been running a set of 4 Goodyear F1 assym 2s on it and they were great tyres - great grip in virtually all conditions but particularly in the wet, always able to get the power down with no traction issues. They gave a smooth and quiet ride and were wearing well and evenly - 15000 miles on the front (with about 2.5 - 3mm left), rears almost as good as new (7mm), all inflated to 38psi. You'll not go wrong with them!!
Has anyone tried the newer Vredestein Ultrac Vorti tyres on their GTI yet (as opposed to the Sessantas)?
-
Autoexpress did a recent test with them but they didn't do that well, although this test was done on 17" wheels.
