Title: Cruise control retrofitting??
Post by: Baz_doc on 07 February 2014, 18:00
Hey,

Been reading some of the searches for this information and seen some members have fitted it on here but not really too much info.

I bought a mk6 GTD and the only thing it's missing is cruise control and i was wondering about fitting it?

Been advised i need to change my steering wheel control module and obviously fit a c/c stalk. Does anyone know the part numbers id need or have them for sale? I have vag com so should b able to code myself.

Any help appreciated

Hi,

Had cruise fitted at the VW dealer, mine is a 2012 model year,as far as I can gather it depends a lot on the M/Y as far as costs go,best I could get mine for was £290 all in,if it had been pre 2012 it would have been £165 inc.

I have a G revision stalk cruise kit that is Gen VW ,brand new and unused, spare from my edition 30 if needed, what else you would need I have no idea,Sorry.

Thanks mate. Im not even sure which one i need or i would try source the parts.

I've heard fitting is easier than a mk5 so i could prob fit it myself if i knew what to buy lol

Will maybe call the dealers on Monday to see about a price but i would guess it would b cheaper to fit myself

I may be wrong but I think its on 09 to 2011 MY its a single cruise/indicator stalk and 12MY is both stalks and slip ring hence the jump in price.

Part no. for the kit I have is 1k0 054 690A and the stalk has a G on the end of the part no.

Gs wax - see ive been told by a guy that retrofits them that I need both stalks and the right module but obviously since he sells them he won't give part numbers. My car is an 2010 GTD

Mattyj - i wish it was that simple for me! I have vag com etc just need to talk to an expert who can advise me what will work in my car lol.

Seen there's a member on here Thedoc, seems to know his stuff so maybe he or someone else could help

Why would you need two sticks? Don't get that at all

Apparently Matty there is 2 different sets of stalks. One set which each side is individual one for indicators and the other for wipers. My set is apparently both stalks joined so the whole unit has both.

Although mine is the GTI, it is a 2010 car like yours. I had the Cruise retrofitted by the dealer before I picked up the car and the cost was £162 as they only needed to replace the one stalk. Worth it in my opinion and I got a 2 year warranty on it.

Hi... My car is a march 2011 onwards, registered May 2011 and I've wanted cruise control fitted since getting it new. I've been into VW many times and been told NO not available as yet. They did do a kit about a year ago but had trouble with them so VW recalled them...
Any help getting this fitted would be great... I live in East Yorkshire so somewhere close would be great....

Thx

you can tell which stalks you have by the way main beam operates. On earlier cars, when you push the stalk forward for main beam, it stays there. On the later cars, push it forwards and it springs back to center.

Hi everyone, I'm looking at buying a 60plate mk6 which doesn't have cruise control. It's something I'd like to retrofit...

I'm coming at this as a bit of a novice (!) so just wondered if anyone would be kind enough to answer a couple if questions?

- is this even possible? An initial enquiry with the local VW garage, they said no.
- from reading various threads and searches, it seems it depends on the month of manufacture?
- it's not something I'd be comfortable fitting myself, will there be independent garages that would do this, and have the knowledge to do the necessary coding?

Thanks!

Had my 09 plate done for £160 and the guy said if it had been 10 plate or newer there's something extra that needs to be done! Might be another £100 but it can be done, where are you based?

Thanks guys, sounds like it IS possible, just might be a bit more expensive depending on the exact date of manufacture (am just waiting to get them is info).

I'm in Suffolk, so if anyone knows of any independents that could sort me out :)

(am also looking to get satnav retrofitted... That's another thread )

Whilst cruise control is a nice feature to have, how many people actually use it in this country? Especially those with manual gearboxes.

Other than very early mornings on empty motorways, I never use mine.

Agree.  That's why I never bothered speccing cruise on mine, knew I'd never use it.  Never bothered with parking sensors either 'cos if you can't park it, you shouldn't be driving it

Too right. Although a rear camera would be useful for hitching up to a trailer. Talking of which, I read in VW Driver mag that the new Passat will have the first ever trailer reversing assist. If you can't reverse a trailer, you shouldn't be driving in my opinion.

Already eyeing up the next Passat dubber   how you getting on with your hunt for a Transporter?

Not yet. I've only had mine for just over a year, so it will be with me for a little longer.

I did get a trade tip off about a T5, but the seller ended up trading it in for a new one. Once the hit the retail market, they no longer stack up. I'm in no rush.

Having parking sensors and a camera has nothing to do with the ability to park and the ability to drive. People with back problems for instance don't need to turn round if they have sensors and a camera. Are you saying people with back problems shouldn't be driving

Does that mean people with back problems never reversed or parked before the advent of sensors and reversing cameras, did they just drive on and on and on .....?
