Looking to tidy up the engine a bit more, anyone know if a carbon fibre or clear timing belt cover for the 1.8t?
-
Sounds like you would need to get one custom built. Have you thought about wrapping the original using carbon fibre sheets?
-
Not a fan of wrapping to be honest

would be cheaper than a custom made one  plus its only going to get covered in crap from the road if you don't have the undertray
-
It might stay clean, I just worry a wrapped cover would make the engine bay looks little tacky. I would like to smarten up the engine bay.

i think it might look okay really would be different or you could paint it maybe?

Agreed, I wouldn't wrap anything in the engine bay. It'll look a bit crap, and would the heat not just cause it to peel away eventually?

most likely would i would say too

have 1 made in metal then powdercoat it
-
Still trying to decide but I have it in my mind that it should be carbon fibre, maybe gloss black but it's difficult to imagine as the engine bay is still work in progress at the minute, but carbon fibre would be the safest bet.

There's an idea it would be easy enough to make with metal if not powdercoated maybe anodised instead that would look

or wrap it ( I don't mean in the 3m stuff)
get a proper carbon wrapping kit. usually contains a can of paint, one sheet of real carbon weave and one can of some kind of thick laquer type stuff. spray an under coat of black paint, wait for it to go tacky, lay on the carbon weave, leave for a while then add the top coat.
its the exact same process and stuff they use to make carbon parts, only they don't spray the black paint on (that's just to stop any white material underneath showing through) and they use many weaves to make the product thick, however you only need one weave cause your just wrapping the original product.

^^^ That's a good idea but I'd guess it'll be hard to get it right.
found it

The carbon dipping looks very good, I might get some of my interior parts done

seen old mike brewer getting it done on some range rover trim and it turned out great
-
Can it be done to both sides of the cover so that it's seamless? I'm a bit padantic

Rockmonkey check out this guy:
http://www.c6carbon.com
He uses real carbon and skims over the item of choice. He does many interior / exterior items for many differnt cars. His work is second to non!
-
If this is the guy I think it is he lives over road from my mate and his work is spot on.
-
I might have to try this with some bits from work
-
Hes based in South Durham
You can post parts to him though!
-
Get your old one off and make a fibreglass mould from it and make your own out of carbon fibre strips, there's hundreds of guides on YouTube. Only real advice I would give is to make sure you have a warm place to work
-
Iv wraped my engine cover and had been fine.
