Damm, this would have been excellent if I got it in my GTi.
Could use my iPhone TomTom

Surely they wouldn't re-vamp the Nav options on the Golf.
Wouldn't this be something which just goes into new models like the 2014 Passat, and possibly late 14 Scirocco?

I've contacted CCC for more information about how the system will work and if older cars with CMS can be retro-fitted..... I can only assume its possible via a software/firmware upgrade of the CMS via dealerships.
Providing that it doesnt involve any new hardware technology to make it work.
-
So if this does come about and the system can work in a Golf Mk7 with a standard headunit, wouldn't it kind of hit sales of the Navigation option? Not for all ofcourse, because some would want the larger screen, but certainly would make some think twice?
Found the following in youtube

Several years ago - when Tom Toms etc dropped to just over £100 I predicted the price of OEM sat nav would finally buckle - I was wrong. Maybe this will be the last straw but I somehow suspect the ability to tie in your phone/device app to the car will be a cost option and will be carefully priced to save you a little bit over the regular sat nav unit cost - but only a little bit!!

Found an update on this, looks cool

We can live in hope - but I would say that this is definately different hardware territory

Apple are rolling out CarPlay iOS integration with several major manufacturers, but interestingly, VW/Audi aren't mentioned.

I''m glad VW are going down the Android route, they've got nearly 70% European market share after all

Yeah it would be great if they actually do integrate iOS with MirrorLink.. But heck, I wouldn't mind buying an HTC/Android phone for that. Seems pretty cool!
-
I guess we will have to wait for this technology on our next cars since its unlikely to be a firmware upgrade. :undecided:

A member on the German GTI forum said that vw are planning to offer mirror link as an accessory to existing cars as all is required is a software upgrade.

If this is true, then its great news... I hope this includes iPhone connectivity

I wonder if mirror link will be available on the standard mk7 head unit , as I'm due a phone upgrade & wondering weather to go Android from iPhone this feature would make my mind up.

Android is definitely getting tidier, especially if you go down the HTC One or Nexus 5 route - both of those phones are uncluttered as there is no bloatware agenda. Very impressed with my HTC One, not the world's biggest Apple fan (I hate the way itunes cripples computers being highly invasive in the way it runs).

Was just reading through the new Polo price list - Mirror Link is listed in there so maybe an option on the Golf in the future.....or may be able to ge some more retro-fit info as soon as these start getting delivered.
