Would a Jetta front grille/headlights look cr*p on my Mk2? I'm still not convinced that debadged grilles look good, so trying to think of something else to do with the front. The Jetta bits seem easily available, I presume it goes straight on as they are basically the same car.............just not sure it would be a good idea... :undecided:
-
you need the slam panel, headlights and grill. thats all! they can look ok with a deep eyebrow spoiler but at the end of the day they aint a rallye front end! i personally don't like them too much.
-
Thanks Joe - was thinking about an eyebrow spoiler too but didn't realise the slam panel was different. Just an idea - probably won't bother to be honest. If I was rich, would definitely go for Rallye parts - sadly I am poor white trash! Saw your engine in the Golf+ mag, very clean indeed!
-
why thank you! didn't realise the engine was in there though? what page? i just thought it was the little pic very similar to this one in the stonor park review!
-
oh and you can pick up a jetta front end for about £20 all in.......... just in case you wanted to give it a go.
-
Sorry Joe, got a bit mixed up - I saw the engine photo on here rather than in the magazine......very clean..........
-
oooooooooh i got all excited then!
-
Sorry, but I HATE the jetta front end on a Mk2. Totally recks the look of the car IMO.
-
got to agree if your gonna do that buy a rally!it spoils the look totaly i reckon.
-
In short - Yes....... its not meant to be you either want a Golf or Jetta. If you want to change the front there plenty of good MK2 kits available - or just keep it the way Wolfsburg intended.
-
Im not a fan of the jetta front on the golf. Like the round front lights. If u want to change it get the single light grill but thats as far as Id go.
-
Jetta fronts look about as crap as buying a Jetta and taking a jigsaw to the boot. In short they look crap and any discerning buyer will walk a mile fom it. The same goes for lexus lights, neons, nodding dogs, leopard skin seat covers, nodding leopards, dog skin seat covers, seat skin dog covers, colour coded wipers, stick on wood, stick on carbon fibre, light up washers, tanner size steering wheels, air brushed murals, go faster seat belt pads, noncy evo back spoilers, splitters, spitters, scoops, poops and Margory Proops, mirror windows, window mirrors, poofy paint jobs, stripes, ICE that will rip your spleen out, chips, paint flips, call me Mr chips etc etc etc.
Oh and Paddy Hopkirk luggage racks with period luggage lined in Burberry - and also Daschounds and fat birds with tattoos. Especiallly the ones who frame their navel with a rising sun, as if we couldn't see it anyway.
And also politicians and royalty - and the press - and Big Brother!
-
yes
-
agreed, just about got it all there mate
-
Well it would seem that they are crap then.........I must say though, at the risk of being unpopular, that I can't see a lot of difference between a Jetta front (general opinion - crap) and a Rallye front (general opinion - very cool). The main difference seems to be the costs involved..............
-
if im honnest im not really a fan of the ralyee front end either but on the scale of coolness a ralyee is a million miles cooler than the jetta.

blimey dude it would seem that you had some things to get off your chest!and then some!lolbut i have to say i totaly agree with its all cheese. all you need is a nice shiney paint job clean interior and a sound system that has clarety as appose to one that will make youre head go bang!with a nice set if not standard set of rims whether they be 17" or 14"s mines due for a major make over 2ltr lump leather interior ,new wheels and a nice full paint job origonal colour.i think they look nicer when they look simple and origonal.

Like most things it depends on the car and the styling. I have jetta lamps on my car purly becuase the boxy shape suits the styling better.
-
Sorry Fielder - Your car is well smart and a credit to you. I was only having a laugh! PS Another thing I don't like is babies with earrings.
-
lol im not worried, everybody has an oppinion. Trust me, when im offended or annoyed you will know about it

Ive met you? Urg...Ive gotta stop drinking, I cant remember anything these days  And i did remove the bonnet vents eventually, Well what acctually happened was i was washing the car and slipped on a sponge, while falling i reached out and grabbed one of the vents which ripped off in my hands and send me flat on my arse. Ahh fun times
-
that was fortunate mate!
-
Fielder - like the look of your car, any chance of seeing some bigger pictures? Thanks to everybody else for their comments/input, even the bizarre stuff!
-
Check the dub projects section mate. Photos in there on the last page (i think its page 4 at the bottom) Its changed a lot since it started. Ive got the arches to fit next but ive started a new job etc. Got to update that section soon.
-
Hey Fielder - checked out your dub projects section, thanks for pointing me in the right direction. Your car looks great, you have obviously put a lot of effort (and money!) into it........Cheers
-
lol yup, a little too much unfortunatally. My girlfriend left me last night because of the car. Typical woman
-
I know you wont take offence fielder as im only messing but i thought you were a bit of a chav at 1st when i saw your car. But i must admit your taste is improving since the removal of the OZ sticker and various stick on vents. Lookin good these days! Im still waiting on more pics of your new hight tech bonnet!
-
and waitin for those black wheels mate! will make a big difference imo!

Quite agree...I like square headlamps on the dubs that have 'em, but there's sooo much style in the Mk2 already why bother?
-
Came to the conclusion over the weekend while at E38 that round lights are best. Got myself a debadged grill, which does look good (probably why so many Golfs have them), so I have now been converted............

I picked up my new racing seats today. The plan is to get everything finished, the bodywork, Brakes, Suspention, Interiour etc all ready for the track then run my current 1.6 motor into the ground learning the basics before putting a 2.0 8V in or somthing along those lines, When i eventually out grow that its either time for a new car or a 20VT. I was planning on getting the 1.6 to the track this summer but one thing after another and ive had to put that plan back until next summer.
However ive almost got everything i need, Picked up the racing buckets today, Just need the cage, Harnesses and coilovers. Then ill finish of the bodywork over summer and the car should be ready.
-
fair play! i want a track car, dnt think i could forgive myself if summet happened to my valver.
Thinking of getting a scirroco, then just stripping it out, with buckets, harnesses etc and some proper brakes and tyres etc then just abusing it on a track.
Is it costing you alot fielder to get ur car ready for track use?
-
im probally not the best person to ask as ive not acctually hit the tracks yet, Im just working off the advice of others. however so far its not been too bad, The mods ive baught Especially for the track so far have been front drilled disks and pads which cost a little under the £100 mark from GSF, The seats which are usally £130 each + £120 for two subframes were a total bargin. £50 a seat and £30 for BlueMk2 and his dad to weld me up some subframes. Thats more or less it so far, The price goes up depending on how good you want your parts.
next step should be Coilovers (between £300-£500) and a better Exhaust system (£300), however the exhaust system is not Vital, Ive got my mind on a Roll cage but they seem to go between the £500 - £1000 depending if you get a full or half cage.
Persionally ive spent £300 just on track day parts, Will probally end up spending around the £1000 mark including harnesses, cage etc. The cheapest mod so far has just been gutting the interiour, Its also given me the best results, Cost me a fiver for a crowbar and a set of screw drivers to do it.
-
Might be cheaper to buy something like this in the long run http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=4578307270&rd=1&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWA%3AIT&rd=1  ( Depending on what the reserve is :undecided: )
-
more fun to do it your self tho
-
True, but I dread to think how much dosh it would take to get a standard mk2 up to that spec .
Just adding up the amounts he's typed it comes to £3270 and there's alot of other stuff which he hasn't put a price on :undecided:
