Title: GTi branded keys
Post by: Chief1337 on 11 November 2013, 17:09
Hi All,

Seen a few people with GTi 'branded' keys - but mine don't seem to be ?!

Is this right? Made a joke with the dealer, who didn't seem to know anything about GTi specific keys?

Have you checked inside your handbook folder? There are silver GTI attachments which should be on the key fob rather than the plastic ones. The dealer should attach them but mine hadn't bothered.

You should have them.

As previously said, check glove box. If not, they will need to print the below part.

Excellent - Thanks Phil - I'll ask the dealer to check before I collect on Saturday! If not order me the right attachments!

Your car doesnt appear to have been fully PDI'd yet (based on pics in new arrivals thread) - it would normally be done then as the metal bits are dealer and not factory fit IIRC.

Thanks - it was just a viewing today, PDI this week with collection Saturday. Hopefully they'll be there ready then. Emailed dealer anyway as he didn't seem to have a clue. :-)

Does the GTD get a similar chrome key base?

Cheers Peter!

Unrelated - but how did you get on with JCB Medway (I have ordered through them via DtD)?

You need to flip out the key and open up the black casing. I used a coin just to ease it open. The problem is once you get it open you need a really small torx screwdriver to undue the screw. If you have one it will be very easy to then replace

Dealer should have changed this as part of PDI procedure

You don't happen to know what size the torx driver needs to be? I've found sets that go down to T3... but from what I can see and you've said I'll need even smaller...

No idea mate. I just gave up trying to be honest.

This was far harder than it needed to be.. dunno about anyone else, but I found that the screw didn't really fit through the replacement chrome part - the hole was too small. I ruined the head of the small torx driver I bought solely for the purpose while trying to tighten it (I can't remember the size, sorry).

In the end I used some wire cutters to cut the pins off of a couple of long drawing pins and used those instead. They can't fall out because of the battery cover and they do just as good a job at stopping the chrome part sliding out sideways.

Way harder than it needed to be! You shouldn't have needed to do it in the first place i'd have taken it back to the dealer to do what they should've done to begin with!

it's part of the pdi so what else have they missed if they can't even be bothered to do such a small thing!

My chrome bits didn't turn up until a few weeks after I'd picked up the car, however I was told you need a special screwdriver to fit them - so I let the dealer do it (they said it was a pig to do) - keys looks the nuts now

Still waiting for my chrome bits and I picked my car up on the 15th October. Dealer said that there is a delay in getting them. No doubt something to do with the rear camera!

the delay could be someone at the dealership has them and they are ordering new ones
